Shadow's Caress Reviews
I was really intrigued by the setup of Shadow's Caress, former vamp hunter Cass is being seduced by a ghostly presence. Though she can't see him she can feel his caresses and his kisses and soon comes to suspect that her amorous shade may be the last vampire she killed - the one who made her give up hunting. I guess I really was hoping for a bit more of the mysterious invisible lover part of the story, which is they way the story looked to be going from the kindle sample, so I was a bit disappointed that this ended more of a vamp romance when all was said and done. I am a bit burned out on vamps right now, but still O'Shea manages to squeeze a whole lot of story into this short, including a fair amount of backstory for Malachi, along with the steamy stuff and even a bit of action, so overall the story ends up being pretty good. If you are looking for more eshorts from O'Shea - two of her offerings which were previously published in Mammoth Books (of Vampire or Paranormal Romance) are now available separately. Blood Feud- A vamp enforcer is teamed up with her old demon lover to stop a war between their races (which was short but good) and The Troll Bridge (Jarved Nine) - which is a story connected to O'Shea's Jarved Nine futuristic series. And I'll be checking out Demon Kissed which sounded good too.
Could someone please give O'Shea more pages? I like the story, but everything I didn't like about it can be directly traced back to the fact it's too short. :(
Cass Lanier - exvampire hunter, she gave it up after her last kill, when the vampire opened his eyes before she staked him, and she felt a connection... and when Cass was a hunter, and executed a vampire, she did not sever the head - too gross & difficult - she staked & buried them... Malachi James - 500 year old vampire, Cass' last kill - but because she did not sever his head, he is now a shade - in no man's land - and only Cass can see him... he has been coming to her the last few days, and giving into his attraction for her - kissing, touching, entrancing...Then other vampire hunters come to her when she is leaving work and try to kill her - she is knocked down and saved - by Malachi... she recognized the shooter and knew they knew where she lived and she didn't know where to go - and Malachi joins her in the car... they talk, he tells her about being a shade, and that she can bring him back (and only her - the one who staked him) by removing the stake.. she is reluctant to go that far... and then he suggests they go to the home of a vampire friend of his... but no one is there - they go inside - they make wild, passionate love - and ... she knows she loves him... and agrees to remove the stake... they leave to do so... and just as he is strong enough to exit the grave, they hear the voices of the hunters... and he needed blood to be able to fight them... enough blood that she would become vampire if he took it from her... but she realizes it is their only hope, so she offers... and though overwhelmed by her enhanced senses, she allows him into her mind, and he helps to control the sensations, and they fight off (killing) 4 of the 5 hunters - and go to the vampire headquarters where they will be safe as she learns how to be a controlled vampire...
