Although the living conditions described in the book have not disappeared, it still felt dated to me. Also, I'd been expecting more science fictional material. It portrays a future - long-range radio transceivers on the wrist - but mainly deals with people working in poor African nations trying to get members of traditional (pre-industrial) cultures to accept new ways. That could be an interesting question for some readers. Yet, more of the book seems to tell us about the techniques the characters use to "trick" traditional people into accepting ideas, and techniques for manipulating crowds. There is some discussion of the ethical and social issues of such methods. This is the first book in a series. Perhaps, the series has a fuller story-line than does this book by itself.

Good readHad me glued from the start. Although it is a sci-fi fiction, it's relatable even in today's time. Checking out the next book I'm the series. I have to know what happened to El Hassan

Read this some time ago. Not Mack's best, but worth a read. My edition had an orange cover, not listed here.
