Chasing Rainbow Reviews
I guess that I would classify this as a paranormal murder-mystery romance novel? Whatever genre it belongs to, it is just not my gig. The characters were annoying, the plot was slow-moving, and the author's rants too obvious. I made it 122 pages and threw in the towel.
Once again I was deceived by the beautiful cover.I didn't actually find anything wrong with it except for the fact that I don’t usually like books where the ages of the main characters are more than twenties. Also, the plot was really slow. It didn't entrance be a bit. For a long while I just thought of abandoning it.The most indulging characters in this book were Roxy and Mary Todd. Roxy’s crisp, honest personality was what compelled me to finish this book. Her guides were endearing and engaging, her dialogue funny. While Mary and her band of misfits were just plain fun to read. It was like she was taking over the world bit by bit. Evil genius, that woman.Rainbow and Jake on the other hand—blah. At first I didn't really feel the chemistry at ALL. Finally somewhere in the middle, I actually started seeing them as a potential couple and they got really annoying. Rainbow was this really annoying character with an inferiority complex. I would rather she’d been like Roxy. At least the reader would've been compelled to like her then. Jake was just really annoying. Period.I guess the ending made it not so bad. Especially the séance. That scene was the redeeming quality of this book.
1.13.12 I read this a very long time ago, I remember really enjoying it. I need to find a copy so I can read again, I lost mine on a move. 2.24.12 update. Found a copy and I'm reading this again.2.27.12 I finished re-reading this book and I remember why I liked it so much back then. It was a very entertaining story with characters that are easy to love and a couple of them that are easy to dislike. I'm glad I found it and could read it again, it is a fun, romantic story. The only issue I had was that the end was a bit too quick. I felt like a few more pages could have made a better ending. It felt a little rushed. But still it was a sweet ending and I was smiling when I finally finished.
DNF on page 36. The only thing this book had going for it is the cute cover. Inside it was so full of descriptions and narrative. Lots of hand-holding and telling instead of showing. Very slow, very boring.I'm sure if I had forced myself to continue I would have given it 2 (maybe 3) stars. But with a lot of books awaiting my attention, I'm looking for spectacular, awesome, epic, amazing! At least something that grabs me in the first few chapters and makes me want to read it instead of taking a nap. I'm sure it's a good book, just not for me.
This is an author that I have read a lot of and have added her books to my 'keeper' book shelf. Most I have read at least twice and some even more than that.
headless woman cover
Didn't finish. Was just not that good. Gave it 100 pages then bailed.
Rainbow is a psychic and meets Jake, an engineer. They solve a haunted apartment building mystery. He loosens up a little bit and she straightens out a bit finding romance in the process.
