Probably a 3.5 but I try to be generous. Usually I don't go for war books, but I have read and enjoyed a few of Sian James' books. Set during the second world war, it is a year of Rhian's live, her loves, troubles and, insightful commentary on the social mores of the time. Lightly humourous at times, it's a very enjoyable read.
