It has been a long while since I read the first in this series so had forgotten quite a bit about it (I may try to reread it when I have time, ha ha). I do know I liked the book, and I did enjoy this one, as well; quick read, good mystery, sarcasm, wit. There were editing errors but not enough to pull me completely out of the story. A word of warning, there is some rough language here and there. There is also the beginning of a relationship between Dix and Dylan, with a little of the physical added in; it didn't particularly bother me but thought I'd share for those it may.

A mystery in this author’s series featuring detective Dix Dodd, this one focuses on Dix’ mother, who lives in a retirement home in Florida and has come under suspicion as a jewel thief robbing her neighbors at the home. Daughter Dix comes to help exonerate her, posing as an author of pornographic stories as a cover. The mystery turned out to be pretty good, the only reason this got even three stars and my reading it all, but the story was badly marred for this reader by its overwhelming sophomoric ogling and comments about the men by the women, even the geriatric set. I admit to laughing at some things, but the humor of ogling and sarcasm wore off quickly. If Wilson wrote an adult mystery without that nonsense, chauvinism I’d find repulsive in reverse as well, I would look at her again. Dix isn’t going to happen.

Ok I liked this book alright and had a few good laughs! I can't really make up my mind whether it was quite as funny as the first one but it sure provided lots of chuckles and Dylan was every bit as hilarious as in the first book and Dix's mother is a really outrageous character. Mrs. Presley was funny enough but I think she was funnier and more effective in the first book probably just from being home in familiar territory. A large part of the mystery was really pretty obvious and not too mysterious but the solving of it provided lot's of good fun especially involving Lance's part. This series makes a great change of pace after reading some heavy suspense thriller or noir crime novel. I'll sure read more of these!

I loved the first Dix Dodd mystery: The Case of the Flashing Fashion Queen. I think Family Jewels is even better. The writing is tighter, the pace is faster and frankly, it's just good fun. Jewelry has gone missing, a man has vanished into thin air and the cops are pinning it all on Dix's mom. Dix's mom insists she didn't steal anything and the missing man isn't missing. He just got turned into a frog. Hilarious! If you like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, you're going to LOVE Dix Dodd.

Dix is a PI who must help her mother who falsely accused of stealing the jewels of other retirement home patrons. I think I liked this book more than the first in the series. Very funny and witty and I love the sexual tension between her and her crime fighting partner. 4 out of 5 stars!

I read the first Dix Dodd mystery also. Family Jewels is better! Plot line is interesting and fun. Characters are more defined. It was a fun easy read. Looking forward to Dix Dodd #3.

I've read the first two books in this series. I hope it ends up being a long series. Funny and entertaining. If you like Stephanie Plum you'll love Dix Dodd.

Dix Dodd, PI, travels to Florida to help her mother who is accused of stealing jewelry in her retirement community. Stephanie Plum wannabe.
