I read this from an author's perspective and it was brilliant! Although many of the things are familiar to anyone who's ever had a contract with a bigger than average publishing company, there are still fascinating insights. Perhaps the only downside was that possibly in hopes of avoiding favouritism--or libel--and trying to cater to readers globally, the book is very impersonal and instead of speaking of e.g. the main players in the field in their own names, refers to 'big publisher', etc. Anyway, if as an author you want to make the business side of your career smoother, this is a good place to start.

Pretty much saved my publishing understanding from my Masters in Publishing courses to my work experiences at publishing houses. Very exact, direct and clear/in-depth insight of the trade. Good marketing, sales and distribution as well.Having Gill Davis as a guest lecturer at one of our lectures was quite an excellent treat too. Thank you Ms. Davis and Mr. Balkwill!
