"Nike's Wings" is the perfect title for this book. At first I was thinking Fantasy or Sci-Fi, but this book is neither. It is a thriller-romance. I had to look up "parkour," but became intrigued with it and it's use by the heroine, Nike. The title and cover both offer a fantastic representation of this character and her story. Although Nike develops unrivaled, perhaps exaggerated skills, she is mostly a believable character the reader can sympathize with, as she struggles to find her true self and place in society. Her story in the settings involving the CIA, international crime, government deception, and in cities and jungles, is told with much attention to detail. I don't do romance books, but the meeting,re-uniting and further acquaintance of Nike and Ty, is a beautiful tale. I especially like Nike's holding on to her secret through all of her ordeals. Valerie Douglas is a gifted writer, and I will certainly read more.

Gripping and EmotionalLooking for a rip-roaring action thriller with great characters and emotion? You can't go wrong with Nike's Wings by Valerie Douglas.I didn't know quite what to expect when I bought Nike's Wings by Valerie Douglas. You see, Ms. Douglas doesn't just cross genres -- she leaps over them. With books from classic fantasy to erotic romance, she has books in multiple genres. Even her so-called single genre books are a melange of elements from other genres.I purposely did not read the description because so many descriptions spoil an excellent premise and good plot twists. I like to be surprised. Plus, the title sold me on the book even without reading the book blurb.Callie, an all-American teenager bored by the adults traveling with her and her father on what has been a rather mundane trip, is thrust into an unending nightmare in a "ripped from the headlines" event. Unending? Not precisely. I guess even Hell has a light at the end of a long tunnel.Strengthened by one night of feeling safe and secure in the arms of a man who promises to save her gives her the emotional fortitude to endure.I really don't want to give spoilers about the plot, but suffice it to say that Fate lends a hand, and she is eventually reunited with the man who gave her the memory that she clung to in an effort to hang onto her humanity.Adversity builds character they say. In Callie's case, adversity turns her into Nike Tallent, a woman who might well be called the Destroyer. Without roots, family, or friends, and trusting no one, she finds salvation where she least expects it.Riveting characterization, well-plotted action sequences, and a believable romance highlight this tale of a woman who will "not go quietly into that goodnight."I'm surprised some movie producer hasn't optioned this book. It has all the elements an actress would want in a breakout role.

I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. The story was very compelling and hard to put down. It's different from the author's other works, which aren't really my style. I can't wait for the sequel.

This is the second book I have read by this author. I thoroughly enjoyed both books and will continue to read this author. Nike's Wings was fast-paced, exciting, scary, sexy and engaging. It has adventure, romance and plot twists. I highly recommend this book!

One of the best action books I've read in a while including a little romance and a little humor here and there. Nike's Wings is heart wrenching and very will have you wanting more. The only thing that really bothered me was I felt like the ending was unfinished.

I like this book, action, bad vs. good guys with the CIA involved and a post 9/11 spin. also a little romance. a very good read, with the action involved I think men as well as women will enjoy this book.

Was an amazing read! Emotionally moving but packed full of action and adventure. I hope that there is another one coming!

The author takes a fairly classic framework for action/adventure and covert 'black ops' and builds great characters into a well crafted plot. There are many common threads to the genre but the characters come alive vividly, with interesting concepts and uniquely 'damaged' main characters and suitably nasty opponents.I would definitely like to see more books with these characters and hope that the suggestion of unresolved issues mean there are more coming. The only thing that became somewhat of a distraction for me at times were the long discussions that seemed to indicate a particular political mindset, a definite anti-war/anti-government position. I could see it as a foundation for the storyline and plot, that made sense. However, there were times when the repeated and lengthy discussions of this position made it feel more like a political statement rather than part of the storyline. A lighter touch on the politics would have worked better and been less intrusive, at least for me.

A fast-paced action spy thriller, this book charges along like a souped-up car. Action fans will love it, I feel sure, and the occasional snide reference to America's shameful behaviour in recent years is calculated to gain the reader's sympathy. The book is well constructed and written, although I thought the ending a little rushed; more could have been made of the Torrance episode. The one major fault in this book was the sudden switch from time to time into patches of pornography. These sudden and unpredictable jumps in style and subject matter interfere badly with the flow of the narrative and practically invite the reader to stop reading. The book would be improved by editing them out.Aside from that, the quality is reasonable, although several missing words and one egregious instance of 'to' used instead of 'too' suggest that time taken for a second round of proofreading would have been time well spent.

That was a good read and I really want more. Is there more? If there is, I hope it'll give more focus on the romance side but still keep the action/thriller part of the story.
