What a touching novel. En this novel, Patricia uses her family's savings to go to California. Through this exchange program, the Guatemalan girl stays with a sweet family who she ultimately forgets about. Throughout the novel she is hung up on the racist cheerleader also known as Debbie Martin (or D-Mart, for short). Once at Guatelmala, Deb expresses he newly found liking for Mexicans as well as their outragous parties. Patricia and D-Mart are both forever changed by their experienses. The only thing that would make this story better would be a sequel: "Debbie va a Guatemala"

I don't know if skimming and asking people what happened actually counts as reading...

I read the story Patricia Va a California in Spanish class during this quarter. Though it was in Spanish and was at times confusing to read, I really enjoyed this book. The book is about a girl from Guatemala named Patricia who spends a few months in California for a school study abroad program. Patricia is 15, and her 'family' in California includes two sisters named Diane and Lisa, and two parents she really enjoys talking with. Her home in Guatemala is much smaller and less modern than the home in California, because she comes fromo a very poor family. At first, Patricia is bullied by a cheerleader named Debbie Martin, but later on Patricia actually saves Debbie from being robbed by a man with a gun. After that, Debbie apologizes and they become best friends. They become so close that when Patricia returns home to Guatemala, Debbie comes to visit her in June. I enjoyed this book and I recommend it to everyone (who reads Spanish)!

This book was definetly different. A BIG REASON WAS IT WAS IN SPANISH! I thought when I first read this book it was going to be really hard for me to read it, turns out it wasn't too bad. In this book a poor girl named patricia, living in guatemlela just gets enough money to travel to california and go to school there for a couple of motnths. She travels there, stays with a new family, and goes to a new school. Everything is new to her. When she goes to the high school a girl by the name of Debbie Martin bullies her for being mexican until a giant incident in the book. (Read to find out) This book is actually a pretty good book and I would reccomend it to anyone

Patricia va a California is a book about a girl named Patricia. She is from Guatemala and travels to California when she is given the opportunity to study their. She lives with a family who help her out. She lives in Ventura California. The story is about her time in California and about how she deals with bullies and other things. This book is meant for learning purposes and I don't recommend reading it on your own time.

Patricia Va A California was an amazing book about a girl from Guatemala that went to the United States and learned so much. She experienced so much, but managed to get through it! I recommend this book to people who love a great, heartwarming story!

Well... it was better than Pobre Ana. It included laughable conflict, conviction, and character-turn around.
