"Don't rape me," she breathed out raggedly. So that was it. Well, he'd set her straight on that score. "Look lady, with all the people you've screwed over the years and I mean that both physically and metaphorically, the last fucking thing I'd want is to exchange bodily fluids with you, not even with a fucking condom, not even if you were twenty years younger.BOOK #1 in Carmen-Downloads-20-Free-Ebooks-Onto-Her-Kindle-Day. More widely known as March 3rd, 2015.I don't even know how to rate this. This book was "romantic suspense," and it was a mixed bag. The "suspense" part was good. The "romance" aspect needed serious work.Kit owns a bookshop/coffeeshop. She grew up with a really abusive mother, a batshit crazy sociopath who did terrible things to her. She saw her father infrequently, and he died when she was 14. One night, two men walk into her bookshop. One is a mysterious stranger who's sinister, murderous intentions are only known to the reader, and the other is Jake Boston. Kit developed a huge crush on Boston when she was 14. She worked in a law firm for three summers, ages 14-16. Jake Boston, even though wildly attracted to her, never encouraged her crush or made a move on her because he thought she was too young. NEWS FLASH: She was too young. You are a creeper. This is just starting us off on the wrong foot. Telling me that these people wanted to have sex with each other when she was 15 and he was... about 25 is just disgusting. No matter how much you say "they are adults now and they are perfect for each other," I am just grossed out.Anyway, now Kit is 24 and Jake Boston has just shown up in sunny California again after spending a year in Tokyo - a year to recover from the fact that his wife had been murdered and he was the prime suspect. It was a loveless marriage to a manipulative and cold-hearted woman. He left for Tokyo without saying 'goodbye' to Kit or telling her where he was going, which has made her hate him. He's come to grovel and convince her to give him a second chance on being Boyfriend.Later that night, the other man - the sinister man - goes to Kit's mother's house and murders her by stabbing her to death with a butcher knife. Kit becomes the prime suspect......There were three parts to this novel:1.) THE MYSTERY AND SUSPENSEThe mystery was strong in this. I liked it. McKeehan kept me guessing and she kept throwing interesting twists and turns which kept me interested. I really liked the whole plot about the mysterious killer and piecing together Kit's murky past. This thread was wonderful.2.) THE ROMANCEGah! a.) Okay, first of all, you can't introduce a couple and tell me that they've had a "thing" for each other since she was 14 and he was 25. I mean, ew. That is disgusting. Creep city. If you want to have an age difference, fine. You can make a 20-year-old fall in love with a 40-or-50-year-old - I don't care. But I DO care about a girl being AT LEAST 18 before you try to hook her up with someone. I don't care what the age of that someone is, but everyone involved must be at least 18. Okay? Okay? Good. I don't care if they didn't get physical - it's fucking creepy to think about some 14-year-old going to a law office and being ogled and lusted after by some sleazebag who only backs off because he learns she's underage. Major turn-off. Just don't go there. When he first met her she'd been far too young, but so... sweet-natured... so... eager to please.OMG I'm going to be sick.He drew in a deep, shaky breath. He wanted this woman. He'd known her when she was a kid, knew what she looked like at fourteen. Wasn't there something wrong about that? But God, she was like fresh air he needed to breathe.b.) Then, I had to deal with the slight creepiness of Jake Boston. No, I mean IN ADDITION to the "I wanted to fuck you when you were 14" thing. Yes. There's more. Take a look at this, 5% in the book, the very night he shows up in her coffee/book shop after a year of absence: She pushed off his chest or tried to, started to get to her feet. But he held her there locked in his arms. With her squirming against him, his lower half started to respond. If he didn't let her go, he feared a response she wouldn't be too pleased about at the moment."Let me up.""Now you're upset."Me: "Take your fucking hands off of her, you piece of shit."Then, the next night, he gets her really drunk and she passes out on his couch. He strips her to her bra and panties and puts her to bed in his room. When she wakes up, we have this conversation:Her face flushed crimson. "Oh really? Then maybe next time I'll be awake and you won't have to take advantage of the situation.""Next time... you'll be awake. Probably all night. And if I had wanted to take advantage of the situation, I pretty much could have. You were out for the night."Okay, one: your sexy banter is creepy. Two: Never, ever remind a woman that you could have raped her but didn't. I mean, what the fuck is wrong with you!?!?! Do you think she's going to be all like, "Thank you for not raping me" or "It's a good thing Jake's not a rapist! I think I'll have sex with him now!" or some shit? Hell, no. Just don't ever, ever, do this - not sexy, not cute, very creepy. A few paragraphs later, he's telling her about what a great person he is for leaving the bra and panties on. "I deserve a reward for being such a saint."Ew. Creepy pervert.c.) Anorexia insults.Just as that thought slid into her head, an anorexic-looking petite redhead no older than twenty, who was stationed behind that elegant reception counter, popped her head from behind the computer and asked, "Can I help you?"Two pages later:How did the anorexic young woman know she wasn't a customer? This makes me rage! First off, you don't know her. She's skinnier than you, so she must be anorexic?!?! Fuck you. Secondly, anorexia is a serious disease. Stop using it as an insult. Ignorant, uneducated...d.)She had very little history in relationships: three to be precise. She had never even experienced the big O.Aw, hell no. One: three is a perfectly respectable number of sexual partners when you're 24. Two: Stop calling orgasms "The Big O." It's off-putting. (Note: she does this throughout the entire book. o.O). Three: Listen, sugar, you don't need a man to give you an orgasm. All you need is your two hands and your imagination. That's it. I have NO hope for you if you have such a low sex drive you've never masturbated. Watch, when she goes to bed with Jake she'll suddenly be very sexual. Uh-huh. Four: I can't believe you went through three guys and never had an orgasm. What were you doing, just lying back silently and hoping for a miracle? Men aren't psychic! You have to give them a little encouragement, instruction, and direction. Men are easily taught and eager to please (at least they should be, if you're in bed with them!). Perhaps you should have made your wants and desires known. Of course, you may have a bit of trouble knowing what those wants and desires are if you never took the time to pleasure yourself, so... it's like a horrible cycle.e.) You will be relieved to know that once Jake Boston and Kit start having sex, Jake cuts out the creepy behavior. Big sighs of relief all around. He actually turns into a sweet, supportive man. However, I honestly wish that there were no sex scenes in this. They should've all been cut out. Listen, some people just can't write good sex. It appears McKeehan is one of them. I was either bored during the sex scenes, or wrinkling my nose in disgust.Kit was still trying to recover from his bone-shattering kiss...Well, that sounds painful. He ran his hands over her again, liking the feel of her. He was pretty sure this afternoon there were a lot of firsts in this bed. "And I take it no one's ever... taken the time to give you... oral before today."Please stop talking. Also, I want to note that I'm not adding these ellipses in here. McKeehan is just very fond of ellipses.Warped as he was, her inexperience only aroused him more.OrWatching him cook caused her juices to flow - again.Or...then set to work with his tongue exploring her belly button, licking, sampling, tasting."Your belly button is a real turn-on. I've got this thing for it," he teased.OrThen his fingers dug into moist heat.Ouch! I am just cringing. Please describe this in a more gentle way. Here's Jake being romantic:"We'll be in the same nursing home. I'll be the guy talking about boats. You'll turn to me and ask if I remember the first time we made love on a boat. I'll say, of course I remember the first time. I may be old, but how could I forget that? It was spring, a beautiful May evening, but as beautiful as the night was it could never compare to how beautiful you are now and how beautiful you were the first time we made love on a boat."Ummmmm.... "I feel something hard in my ear.""It isn't your ear that it's interested in."She turned her head to look up at him, rested her chin on his stomach and grinned. "What's it interested in?""Come here and I'll show you."Here's a doozy:Her juices went slick in anticipation. This doesn't even make sense. Not even a little sense.f.) Birth Control. They have unprotected sex about a dozen times before Jake finally raises the issue of birth control. Ah, yes. That's the time you should talk about pregnancy and STDs - after you've had sex over 10 times. Great. AND, to make it worse, this conversation never gets resolved, instead breaking off into a discussion of the abuse she suffered as a child. Next thing you know, it's the next chapter and they are having loads of unprotected sex again. I am like, "Excuse me? Condoms? The pill? STD screening? Can you hear me?" Apparently none of that is important or worth discussing.3.) PSYCHICThe third (and last) plot thread involves being psychic and having psychic dreams. I'm not even joking. This plotline is so strange, it's as if it doesn't even belong in this book....RANDOM NOTES:Kit has a dog, Pepper, her rescued black-and-white border collie.Cliffs of Dooneen is a song that is mentioned in the book - I love when books mention songs by name so that I can listen to them while reading....Tl;dr - The mystery is gripping and enjoyable, but unfortunately a big part of this book is romance. And the romance is terrible. The ending is pretty satisfying, but not conclusive as McKeehan is obviously setting up the sequels. The basic premise of the trilogy appears to be: three female friends who had very abusive childhoods fall in love with three male friends who will protect them/love them. Three evil brothers with a lot of money and power are obsessed with the women (one brother to target/harass/stalk/beat/rape each woman). One book for each female.Am I interested in reading any sequels? I would not like to slog through the romance parts again, but I am interested in what happens to the characters. I'm probably not going to shell out $4.49 each for the two sequels, though. Probably. ;)TWO REAL STARS, TWO ROMANCE STARSI got this for free on my Kindle by just browsing through Amazon, they were having a special. This was entry #1 in Carmen-Downloads-20-Free-Ebooks-Onto-Her-Kindle-Day. More widely known as March 3rd, 2015.

When Kit Griffin's mother Alana Stevens is found viciously murdered on Mother's Day, Kit turns out to be the prime suspect. Although Kit had suffered an abusive childhood at the hands of her mother, she had since moved on and built a life of her own and was doing well for herself. Kit carried a great deal of mental scars from her childhood, but was she capable of murdering her own mother? This book held my attention right from the start all the way to the last page. Fast paced page turner which I have no hesitation in recommending to anyone who loves a good thriller/mystery.

Before I say anything else about this book, let me start by saying this type of story line isn't my cup of tea which is why I gave it a two-star rating. Going by the description given for this book it seems like it would be a suspenseful crime mystery. However, 90% of the plot is pure romance with the remaining 10% being a crime mystery. If you're into hot steamy romance this is the book for you! If you're looking for a suspenseful mystery thriller you might want to pass this one up.

I hardly slept for a week while reading this book because I couldn't put it down! Just Evil held my attention from beginning to end and I fell in love with all the characters. There are so many twists and turns and just when I thought I figured out the mystery, another curve ball. I love reading a book that challenges my imagination and has the ability to draw me into the story. There is never a boring moment in this book and as you peel away the layers of the mystery, it only gets more intense. I laughed, cried and found myself rooting for Kit and Jake!! There's a perfect blend of mystery, suspense, romance and spine tingling excitement. I already purchased Deeper Evil which is the second in the trilogy and I can't wait to start reading it.If you are looking for a story that can keep you on the edge of your seat, Just Evil is the book for you. I will definitely add Vickie McKeehan to my list of favorite authors and I plan to read all of her books!!!

Not since reading Shubumi and Nicolai Hel in the ’80s has an assassin captured and held my interest more. The romance adds to the depth of the plot, which goes back forty years and two evil women. This could almost be compared to a contemporary Game of Thrones in which the family’s evil dynasty and infighting flows throughout the book. All in all an excellent read.

*I was given an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review*Wow. I'm not much of a mystery/thriller reader but this was one exception I am glad I stumbled across. There was so much going on in this story, taking me from surprise again and again and again. I can't reveal too much except that I am so glad this is a series because I cannot wait to read the next story. The more I read about how Alana mistreated her daughter Kit, I felt a pang of sadness, anger and fear because Vickie got this right, Alana was pure evil. It was heart-wrenching how it was possible for someone to be that cruel to their child. It scares me to think that there might actually be parents out there like that. I can understand the concept of abusive parents to some extent but some of the things Alana did were really, I don't know of a better word, spiteful. It's like she was taking her anger out on the child and I still cannot understand her motive or reasoning. Kit's and Jake's friends were brilliant. I liked each one of them and found all of their loyalties, and sudden defensiveness on behalf of their friends entertaining. Especially how everytime someone upset Kit, Baylee and Quinn would immediately attack!Although I have read some great reads in the past few months, Just Evil has already become one of my favourites from 2013!

Just Evil by: Vickie Mckeehan is such a roller coaster I can not read fast enough. I do not ever review books I have not finished (unless saying I was not able to because half thru nothing had happened.... NOT THE CASE HERE!). I am only 85% finished, but I have to say something. I CAN NOT believe there are so many twists & turns. I have not read a book this truly exciting in a while. Kit is being accused of the murder of her evil, abusive mother, but then her mother's friends (powerful lawyers) start being killed as well. It is all about some family secret that SOMEONE knows & that someone is very pissed! There is a twist constantly. Just when I get one thing going on, another interesting part jumps in. I love that you also get part of the story from the head of the actual killer. I can't wait to finish this book. It is a trilogy, so I guess after I add to this review after finishing, I have to get my hands on the next 2. Update! I finished the book, and as suspected, it was awesom. Still full of surprises & twists til the end. There was an excellent ending ... Leading you into the next book in the trilogy. The book was full of excitement, twists, turns, humor, a little love, I just loved the excitement.

The Evil Trilogy is the story of three best friends, who grow up together in Beverly Hills under the dark clouds of murder, drugs and abuse. Just Evil is the story of Kit who thinks she has reached her ultimate goal of escaping her mother’s cold grasp. Until a mysterious stranger and a lost love drags her back into the sins of her mother.Kit and Jake reach out to you and soon you’re laughing and crying with them. When the characters jump off the page, you know you have found an excellent book to curl up with on the couch. I couldn’t put this book down. A definite 5 star keeper! I am eagerly looking forward to reading Books Two and Three to see what happens to Baylee and Quinn. Vickie Mckeehan is a must-read in my book.

A brilliant read for the genre. From a stunning cover to a an enticing plot the book had me hooked.Kit should have the perfect life. She is young, beautiful and her mother is stinking rich. The catch is -- her mother hates her and this hate translates to Kit being a murder suspect once her mothers body is found. But her mother is not the only person dying. People Kit knew all her life is dropping dead...Kit is dreaming as well, a dream about an old house and two elderly people, in the dream they get killed. With a brand new romance and a murder investigation in which Kit is the only suspect the clock is ticking. Will she survive long enough to be arrested? Some explicit sex scenes present but not in anyway erotic. I think all readers will like this book. WaAr

REVIEW by Mav S. Farhan of Coffee Time Romance and MoreJust Evil was given Coffee Time Romance and More's highest rating plus a CTRR award. “Kit Griffin, child of a former actress Alana Stevens, suffered inexplicable horrors by the hands of none other than her own mother. Finally free of her grasp, she has managed to open her coffee and bookshop business to live a life in a small town with a handful of people she considers family.Jake Boston is a CEO of a multi-million dollar company he built from scratch, a family friend and childhood love of Kit’s. After being accused of his wife’s murder, Jake left for a year to get away from everything and comes back with plans of winning Kit over, but before he could get her to forgive him Alana is found murdered with Kit as a prime suspect.Knowing Kit is innocent, just like he was, Jake does everything in his power to protect and help her confront childhood demons. Delving into the dark past of Alana reveals a forty year old double murder leading to the door of a legal dynasty. With bodies piling up by a killer on a vengeance trip, police are unwilling to look anywhere except at their prime suspect. Will Kit and Jake be able to resolve their past, clear themselves of murders, and find love or will they become the next victims on the killer’s list?Kit is a sweet but determined woman who we cannot guess had a nightmarish childhood at first glance, has recovered and managed very well to ignore her past, but when her mother’s murder forces her to visit those demons again she shows a strength of character very few people can after suffering all that she did. Jake on the other hand has always been focused on becoming a successful businessman until one wrong decision forced him to reassess what he wants in life. He is perfect for her, giving her strength, support and love where she needs it, yet not treating her like a china doll. He is not afraid to admit his mistakes nor scared to face the unexpected as long as he has her. The supporting characters will be main characters in future two books. They have strong, distinctive characters which the author has written in such a perfect way that it neither steals the show away from Jake & Kit nor make me indifferent to read more about them. Ms. Mckeehan has dared venture into a zone where not all is as it seems and wrote about the horrors and abuse children and adults alike may suffer in the hands of people ‘just evil’ without pulling punches, for which I salute her. It is a rare place for a romance author to go. Ending on a happy cliff-hanger, I for one, cannot wait to get my hands on the next book."

A sexy thriller! What a great read! Poor kit really got a rubbish deal growing up didn't she? I really enjoyed reading this book! A great mix between murder mystery, character story and horror! The whole book is well written, the characters are real, raw and damaged which made it believable, and the murder scenes are not too gory which I liked. There are adult scenes in the book but I thought they were very well done and in keeping with the story of a new romance blossoming. I loved the twist and did not see it coming! I also love the psychic element in the book and thought it brought something a little different! I am looking forward to the next book and am excited to see what happens next! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good horror/murder book! I was gifted this book for an honest review.

Ok, I admit I was wrong, the first few pages of this book made me think it was gonna be so dark and depressing I could never finish it. I will tell you that only lasted for a few pages and then it launched into a romance driven, murder mystery, with a touch of paranormal just to make everything perfect.Kit and Jake are a perfect couple and the "bad guys" in this novel are too numerous to mention but are all done very well and more to come in the other two novels in this story which I plan to buy as soon as I finish this review.5 Star reading overall even though it was slow going in a couple of places it never got to the point where I wanted to scan pages or skip anything. Get this book! There is too much to tell for me to do it here and I got books to read

Kit Griffin was the last one. She was blond and tan, and worth the drive in the rain. How could she go from Beverly Hills to the small fishing village of San Madrid? He went inside the bookstore out of curiosity. As he stood talking to Kit, he saw the painting. The artist had given the painting to Kit, Baylee and Quinn, when they moved in together. When he asked about the painting, Kit couldn’t help but wonder why the stranger was so interested in it.The authors use of He instead of a name for her character adds mystery to the story.Kit was proud of her bookstore, the Book and Bean, and all the hard work she had put into making it a success. With the support of Baylee and Quinn, her best friends, Kit had been able to overcome her past and the abusive relationship she had with her mother, Alana Stevens. She refused to think about the past, so when Jake Boston, a family friend that she had been in love with since she was a young girl, walked in, to say she was surprised would not begin to cover the range of emotions she was experiencing. He had been gone more than a year without speaking to Kit and he thought now was as good a time as any to see her again. Jake had left Los Angeles without saying a word to Kit. He was the prime suspect in the murder of his wife, Claire, and the constant police harassment had driven him to the point of sheer exhaustion, so he had left the city to try to move on with his life. He returned as a rich man after building a multimillion dollar company with hard work and determination. Gloria, Kit’s aunt, had kept Jake informed of all that was going on in Kit’s life, even though she was unaware of it. He had really missed her and wanted to tell her he had bought the Crandall House and was renovating it because Gloria had told him that Kit loved the old house and he hoped they might have a life together. He was still sitting outside when the man came out. He knew, if the man got in the way, he would have to get rid of him. When Kit went to bed that night she had a feeling of doom, something bad was coming. She didn’t sleep well and was glad when she called her mother to tell her Happy Mother’s Day and she didn’t answer the phone. Kit and her mother, Alana had never gotten along. If it hadn’t been for her Aunt Gloria, she never would have made it this far.He waited for Alana to come home. No one would find her until the maid came in the morning. When Alana was found murdered, the police became very interested in her estranged daughter, Kit. Alana’s best friend and attorney, Jessica Boyd, immediately pointed the finger at her ungrateful daughter and her crazy sister, Gloria Gandis. Even though Jessica knew the police would check out the law firm, she would do whatever she could to distract them and try to lead them in a different direction.Gloria felt Kit was in danger. People thought she was crazy, but she had a gift and right now it was telling her that Kit was in need of help. She called Jake and told him Kit was the main suspect in her mother’s death. He could relate well to her situation, because he had been the main suspect in his wife’s death a year ago.Jake walked into Kit’s bookstore and found the police questioning her in an aggressive and intimidating manner. He immediately felt a need to protect and shelter her from them and told them to back off. Their response was that maybe they should arrest him for his wife’s murder now that he was back in town.He thought of Kit, but for the first time his job was leaving him feeling uncomfortable. What would happen to Kit?He was waiting in the backseat of her car when she came out from her tryst. When he was done, he left the car parked on the side of the road and walked away. When the police pulled up behind the parked car, they thought it was a just rich drunk, but Jessica wasn’t going to be talking to anyone. Just as in the case of Alana, they found a gold cowboy on a horse had been left with the murder victim. When Sumner Boyd, Jessica’s husband, was notified, all he could think of was everything they had done to become one of the largest family law firms on the West Coast and wondered if anyone knew what had happened and how they had got started. Could someone have a vendetta against them? When Kit found the gold cowboy on the counter, she figured some kid had left it in the bookstore and asked Baylee, her friend and employee, about it. She didn’t know anything. Kit knew Baylee was hiding something. She had left and come back with a baby, Sarah. She was Kit’s best friend and employee and would go to any lengths to protect her, so Kit was loath to pressure her for answers. After Alana’s death, her lawyer’s quickly presented Kit with papers to sign, she was the sole beneficiary of Alana’s estate. Kit couldn’t understand why she would do that, since she had left home at an early age and her mother had never liked her anyway. Jake said he would take a look at the papers, just to be on the safe side. He saw there was property worth a lot of money but he couldn’t help wondering, where was the cash? He was going to have his lawyer go over them before Kit signed anything.Collin’s obsession with Kit had made him dangerous and unpredictable. Being part of Boyd Boyd Geller and Getz, the family law firm, made him and his family feel a sense of entitlement. They would do whatever it took to get what they wanted and take what their hearts desired. He blamed her for making him fall in love with her and was determined to make her pay for her rejection of him. Just how far would he go to seek revenge? If he couldn’t have her, would he make sure nobody else could? After Alana’s funeral, Jake invited Kit out sailing. While they were relaxing and enjoying being out on the water, an SOS was sent out over the radio. Since they were so close Jake set sail for the coordinates he believed would take them to the distressed vessel. Before they could reach the old sloop it erupted in a huge explosion that blew both of them off their feet. If they had been any closer it would have blown them up too. They later found out it had been a bogus signal. Was it staged? Were they the target? Why?Jessica’s sister, Eva Getz, a partner at the law firm, was missing. When they found Eva’s body, they found a gold cowboy. Jake believed it was all linked to the law firm and since the police wouldn’t take their focus off of Kit, Jake thought they should do some investigating of their own. Public records showed that Alana had been married and divorced five times, but there was no record of her being married to John Griffin, Kit’s father. Husband number three was Frank Geller, Jessica’s brother. As Jake investigated further he found that Kit had a brother, Ben Griffin who lived in Ireland. Why was he so difficult to locate?Jake had made it his priority to protect Kit. He wasn’t going to leave her alone until this whole mess was settled. At 3:03 in the morning, Jake woke Kit from a nightmare. She told him it was a recurring nightmare and each time it went a little further. She dreamt that an older couple were murdered at their ranch in a Charles Manson style. This was the first time she had seen the name on the sign-Sundown Ranch. Why did she keep having a nightmare that seemed so real? When Jake found the scar from the bullet wound, Kit wondered what he would do when he found out everything, when he found out that Alana was “just evil”.Kit: She could tell a tale, filling it in with the most minute details. It made me think of my husband, who can take what to me would be a five-minute story and regale people for twenty. Kit loved the simple, ordinary things in life-like when she found the red, white and blue decorations on the boat and took such delight in setting the dinner table.Jake: I loved how tender he was with Kit when she needed him the most, not questioning or pushing her, just putting her needs first. Amongst murder and mayhem, I don’t think anyone would complain about a hero and a good love story.I received this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. A paranormal, mystery, thriller that will grab you from the first page and not you let go. I am a voracious reader and love it when an author BLOWS ME AWAY and Vickie definitely did that in spades. I loved the cover. I photograph and sketch trees without leaves. If you look closely enough and long enough you will see many things other than a branch or twig as your imagination draws you into the picture. I really like this cover over the alternate, because the colors are rich and vivid and the tree is descriptive of the story, encompassing all the characters and subplots branching out from the main storyline. The title is short, to the point and relates to the story. The book was very well written making me race through the pages. The moment I felt I knew here it was going, I found myself holding tight as it took me on a twisting, turning ride through the feelings of terror and exhilaration of love, murder and intrigue. The characters covered the spectrum, from truly heroic to “just evil”. It is a cliff-hanger that will leave you screaming for more. Just evil is a trilogy and you truly will want to read the next one and the next one.Just Evil Vickie McKeehan

This my friends is a perfect example of how to write a thrilling romantic suspense! With rich well written main characters and beautifully scripted side characters , throw in some deliciously done bad guys and a mystery character. This is a recipe for a BRILLIANT character driven novel. The mystery was ripe full of suspense and drama. Twists and turns abound as we are slowly given the back-story that helps drive this fabulous novel. The romance angle was also very well done. Not a lot of cornball “will they or wont they” crap. This story was very romantic with lots of hot sex thrown in. This is an ABSOLUTE must read for romantic suspense lovers. Cant wait to see what this author dishes up in book two.

Wow Another awesome book by Vickie McKeehan. This book takes us to the murder of actress Alana Stevens and the prime suspect is her only daughter Kit. As the investigation grows it shows child abuse and a cold hearted killer looking for revenge. Kit is wanting nothing more than to prove her innocence and to keep away for the man who left her years ago after his own wifes murder. Jake is doing everything he can to clear kit and to make her love him again and this time he isnt taking no for an answer. This book takes us into the world of pure evil of the worst kind child abuse. This Book is really good i cried and laughed so many times I really love this book and I cant wait for the next. I really recommend this book.

I recommend you buy a copy and start it right away! You will be glad you did!

I haven't read another romantic suspense novel like this. Romantic suspense novels usually have great built up to romantic tensions and sex scenes, or have great action and suspense, but not both. Vickie McKeehan delivers both in "Just Evil." This was a great read that kept me riveted and guessing all the way to end. You'll fall in love with the rich characters Vickie McKeehan has created.

This book was a page turner that kept you wondering what would happen next! I will be honest IT is not my normal read but, the cover was just to amazing not to know what was behind it. I was glad that I decided to give it a try. Some much going on but, not so much that you get lost! If you want a good thriller then this is for you!

Just Evil was another free book offer that I downloaded to my Kindle a few weeks ago. I just love Amazon's promotion, which allows authors to get their books into the hands of readers who may not normally read that genre. The book description and first few chapters pulled me in and held my interest throughout.Kit Griffin is suspected of killing her abusive, wealthy mother, and the two detectives assigned to this case are relentless in their efforts to prove she did it. Two of her close female friends and a beloved aunt are there to support her every step of the way. Did she do it?Jake Boston, an old family friend, comes back to town after a short absence; leaving town suddenly after he'd been found innocent in the murder of his own wife a year earlier. Jake has some history with these same two detectives, who tried desperately to pin the murder on him last year; against the advice of others, he takes Kim under his wing to help prove her innocence.A childhood crush and the amount of time they were spending together ignites a flame that sat dormant for many years. This soon erupts into a sex fest that consumes most of their spare time in the coming weeks. Is this love, lust or do either of them have a separate agenda?Soon other deaths occur within the same family circle and the detectives want to pin them all on Kit. However, she has an alibi for all except her mother's. Is there a second killer or only one? After several homes and Jake's office are ransacked and trashed by thieves, they find that nothing is missing. So what are they looking for? The friends set out on a search of their own, and begin at Kit's mother's ransacked home. They soon discover a hidden attic and begin searching for anything that looks out of place. Something is soon uncovered in a long forgotten, dust covered box. Will they find the answers inside?Kit had continuous nightmares since her mother's death and wakes up at 3:03 am every morning. Unsure what they mean, Jake helps her learn that her dreams of death mimic the 1969 Manson Murders. Why is she having them? Is she clairvoyant - could this be a sign of sorts to prove her innocence or maybe even her guilt? The story has many twists and turns, leaving a reader anxious to discover the truth. The author does a marvelous job in bringing it all together at the end to provide answers that solve this mystery. However, many of the questions raised in "Just Evil" are two in the trilogy may have some of them. And if not, then book three is a certain bet. Kudos to Vickie McKeehan for writing this story! I have already purchased her other two books in the trilogy, adding them to my list of books to read. Hopefully, I can get to them soon and enjoy another story by Vickie McKeehan.John Podlaski, author

I was given this book by the author for an Honest review!I fell hook, line and sinker in love with Just Evil the moment I picked it up. I love the characters and the storyline stays constant. There is no no down time while reading I could not wait to turn the page to find out what was going to happen next. Loved Kit throughout the story and looked up to her for her strengths and even her weakness made me wish I was as strong as her with all she had to face.Kit-Struggles with the nightmares of things from the past, and finds out her mother who is not only rich and famous but abusive as well has been murdered and she is the prime suspect. She runs into her much older High school heart break (Jake Boston) and worries he will break her heart again, though she tries to control her feelings for him and keep a distance from him she finds that he is trying to get closer to her. Kit will find many things about herself, mother and her family that will bring her closer to Jake and needing her friends to help her through.Jake Boston- Wasn't real sure of Jake in the beginning thinking he was going to do nothing but break Kits heart again, proved to me that he is exactly what Kit needs to deal with the past and look forward to what life has in store for her future both good and bad.Quinn- Still not sure about Quinn, she has dealt with a lot of heartbreak in her life but the chip she has on her shoulder sometimes gets in the way her personality.Baylee- Love Baylee, she makes me what to rush in and be the big sister let her cry on my shoulder, laugh till she is senseless and just forget about her traumatic past.Dylan- Book Crush alert!!! Dylan went from total blonde hair surfer player to Daddy of the year and he man of my dreams in a matter of 5 minutes.Gloria- I felt so much heartbreak for Gloria, she went through things a mother should never have to think about much less actually live in her life. Her strength is amazing. The Boyed boys- I felt nothing but pure hatred and discussed through the entire book and as each page turned I constantly looked forward to Karma day for them.Just Evil is a story of proof that when your rich and famous that you can get away with just anything, especially when you have the best lawyers money can by.Or can you? Does your past come back to haunt you? Will secrets be dug up? Can your money save you when all the evidence points to you and the people you have hurt come back for revenge? Find out in "Just evil" how the wrong you have done to others can come back and punish you at the hands of the people that have been affected. How your secrets and the secrets of your family will finally be revealed and your time of suffering will come.

Just Evil by Vickie MckeehanRating 5*****This book was provided free from the author in exchange for honest literary review.Kit has made an enjoyable life for herself. Going on her own at 16, she fought her way through college and now owns her own coffee and bookstore. Her simple life changes forever when her superstar mother is murdered on Mother's Day.For some reason, Kit becomes a suspect in the murder. Then before she knows it another murder has happened in the circle of her mother's friends. Next Jake has came back into her life out of nowhere. Deserting her over a year ago, this is the last thing she needs. She may be able to survive jail, but not another broken heart from this man. Little do any of the people in and around Kit's life know this is so much bigger than what they think. There is a whole other plan at work here. Some call it justice, some call it pure evil. Omg this is one of those series that is off the hook amazing. Kit is such a strong girl to have fone through what she has, and still made it. She has a solid trio of friends, an adorable puppy Pepper, and is just so darn likable. In fact, all the characters here are well developed and deep. The plot itself was very suspenseful and keeps The readers attention from the start. As the plot unwound, I was shocked. I have to say that it was one I never seen coming. My favorite thing in th one is, The author doesn't make a happily ever after ending. While some people did end up happy, others had to realize some people are just evil, or are they? I highly recommend this one. It is one you can't put down and Jas so much more to offer than just romance. It's a suspense/thriller/romance/ mystery all wrapped up in one. Amazing!!!

So I was going to give this book a 4 1/2 star rating only because one of the main characters within the book seemed to be holding some things back and I didn't know if there would be a book two in the works. So glad that I read the sample of the next book because now I do know there is a book two. I loved the romance, along with the mystery surrounding what was going on. You have Kit who is now getting her life back together not only from her horrible childhood but more from the man who broke her heart. When Jake comes back into the picture well it seems that is when everything goes to hell in a hand basket. Kit's mother is murdered, Kit is the prime suspect her friend Bailey seemed to be harboring a secret that she doesn't want anyone to know about. But Jake is not the cause of the mystery surrounding Kit's mother. He just came back at the wrong time to be with Kit, but can he protect her from the lawyer Boyd brothers. Kit has a past with one of them a semi-dark past and it seems he will stop at nothing to be with Kit. With a bunch of bodies piling up because of Alana's dark and dirty past Kit and Jack uncover secrets, while trying to stay alive. But who exactly is doing all the killing? What is up with Kit's dreams.I felt so bad for Kit's childhood but yet she grew up to become a strong person who doesn't like trouble, but can handle her own. She become a strong person and what she had to deal with, wow she had more strength than I ever would. There are revelations that will come into Kit's life and lets just say it was an oh wow moment on that one. There is a perfect dark and rainy day read that you can and will want to devour. There is mystery, romance, moments that will leave you holding your breath and wondering what is going to happen next.

Vickie McKeehan’s, Just Evil starts on a fast clip and never lets up. This mix of mystery, suspense and romantic thriller weaves a tight plot with twists and turns along the way. There is never a boring moment. Kit’s abusive mother, Alana Stevens foists untold terrors upon Kit. During her childhood, Kit learned to survive through close friendships with peers who help her through difficult times. Just as Kit seems to be starting a normal life while operating a successful coffee shop and bookstore, she faces a host of new challenges. Alana Stevens and her close associates are murdered. Police know of Kit’s abuse and consider her a person of interest or suspect in the murders. What Kit didn’t know was the sordid background of Lana and a notorious law firm with which Lana depended upon. When police pursue Kit as a suspect, childhood friend Jake Boston comes to her aid. Jake has successfully held off police from similar charges feels the charges against Kit are ludicrous. The story progresses with threats not only from the police but threats upon Kit’s life. Jake becomes protective of Kit and a romance blossoms. When Jake starts his own investigation into the threats, his team uncovers dark secrets about Lana, the law firm, old murders and corrupt practices. The story progresses with a series of threats upon Kit’s life. Jakes sense of guilt at not always being there for her and a mystery hit man keep the reader guessing about the outcome. Ms McKeehan has written a compelling story and this is the first of three in her Evil Trilogy. Fair warning; some of the scenes contain mature subject matter. Just Evil is an award winning novel and for good reason.

I was exploring the free ebooks on Amazon and discovered this little jewel. The story grabbed me from the first page! It's an exciting, fast-moving mystery, and it's book one in a trilogy. I've put a couple of the books I've been reading on hold. This one is to good to be true! I'll be purchasing books two and three at this rate. I love coming across new authors (at least new to me).===============A rewrite I wrote for my review (3/21/13):I was exploring the free ebooks on Amazon and discovered this little jewel. The story grabbed me from the first page! It's an exciting, fast-moving thriller, book one of The "Evil" Trilogy. I feel like I've discovered a hidden treasure. This book is too good to be true! And, forget that "50 Shades of Something" book. If you want to read something steamy and sexy, grab this book. Here's an author that knows how to keep your attention. Who is the killer, and what is his/her motivation? I'm not going to spoil anything for you. I will tell you that the twists and turns will keep you on your toes. I guarantee this book will satisfy anyone looking for a great murder mystery, with a realistic romance sprinkled throughout. The book is filled with incredibly, wonderful characters you will fall in love with. I promise. I know I did. I'll definitely read books two and three of this trilogy. I love coming across new authors. Vickie McKeehan has rapidly becoming a top favorite of mine.

"Just Evil" by Vickie McKeehan is the story of Kit Griffin, the owner of a coffeeshop / bookstore. When her unloving mother gets murdered Kit becomes one of the prime suspects due to the strained relations between mother and daughter. At the same time former love interest Jake Boston comes back into Kit's life. As more murders happen in the Hollywood community Kit and Jake do some investigating on their own, during which Jake learns more about Kit's terrible childhood and finally manages to come closer to the emotionally scared Kit.The description of the characters is very thorough and their past is explored in a very deep and psychologically sound manner. The romance part is also written very well, Mckeehan takes her time to let the estranged couple re-kindle their spark. Last but not least the murder investigation is written with much suspense as Mckeehan changes focus between Kit and the murderer. The combination of these three makes it impossible to get bored, there is always something else that needs to be addressed and before I knew it the book had come to the end.I am looking forward to the next instalment of the series. Well done!

This starts off really spooky. It actually starts off with contrast, a rainy California and the book builds into the mystery very well. Halfway the mystery drops and drags out before it picks up again. Kit and Sam are the two main characters, but the other characters are done well. This is a series, since she's going to focus on the love life of the other two friends Quinn and Baylee, so you have plenty of sub plots running through. Don't be surprised because you just have a hint of who the murderer is, the book ends in a cliff hanger to make you pick up the next book in the series. My guess its her father who never really died. That being said Kit is talked of being very brave and strong. But it still doesn't make me feel sorry for her in any way. She comes across as too timid and too spineless. Her childhood some might consider has that effect, but she had to be pictured either brave or either timid. Both just couldn't happen. Overall the mystery and intrigue rise to a feverish pitch. A few things that could be better, keeping the tone and setting dark throughout the book. Overall it was nice.

Cleverly-plotted mystery/suspense:A roller-coaster of mystery, suspense, and intrigue. Just Evil is littered with secrets and devious events, all backdropped by a methodical serial killer’s secret agenda to brutally punish the powerful family whose power and control have reigned uncontested for 4 decades.Kit is a vulnerable young woman, and the target of too many antagonists – and that includes the police themselves. Relying on her support-network of friends and her lover, Jake, she is constantly fighting to survive in a world complicated with the circuitous plotting of the dreadful Boyd family… and the legacy of a brutal and abusive mother. The story has a all of the elements of a good mystery suspense: intrigue, duplicity, lies, teasing secrets, love, passion and all things sexy. This is an involved story of love and evil, passion and mistrust. A great introduction to a series which shows that money may not buy happiness but it certainly can buy influence. … And for every family’s illicit gain, somebody must pay for it. Recommended.

This is a must read for people who love mystery, suspense and just a bit of romance. Although this book took me a bit longer to read then usual, I really did enjoy the characters and how they developed as the story progressed. The hidden "revenger" is an amazing character and although it is grisly what he does, you can't wait to find out who he is and why he does it. Of course in all good trilogies the first book ends with a humdinger of a cliff hanger which makes you want book 2 NOW!!! The plot has the usual boy left girl, boy came back.. and I thought oh no this is going to be a sappy love story that is so not new. Don't be fooled!! The author pulled out all stops when she introduces twists and turns throughout the whole story that will have you on your toes trying to figure out where she is going to next. Kit's tragic history will make you want to hold your own kids a bit tighter. And all you can think is the underdog team better win this in the end! Loved it and can't wait to read more!

I was drawn into Kit Griffin's world immediately! The way the author has set up the scenes throughout this novel is truly clever, she has you eagerly turning the next page with great anticipation. This book is so well written and full of suspense... Kit is implicated in a murder and the detectives have got their grip on her unwilling to let go. Three friends from childhood, unexplained murders, a romance and some very unexpected twists. Just when you think you have the story sussed the author throws in another delicious twist and sends you down another path altogether. This is a very gripping story that will hold your attention until the very last page. I highly recommend this book to anyone, you won't be disappointed... Well done to author.
