4.5 stars- This was amazing. It was a roller coaster ride with some very unexpected turns. I loved these characters!!

This is not a romance. This is a dystopic fantasy story. There is love. Deep love, but still this is not a romance. It is the continuation from Book #1 in the series, but twelve years later. It has a realism to it that is gritty and a deep underlying sense of unshakeable melancholy that screams southern writer. The battles Alex and Mike face in this one don't go where you expect. Mike's struggles and reality over a decade later are definitely evenly weighed on the scales. Some good and some bad. I guess the acceptance is what makes it bleak. This is not an optimistic story, but it is a survival one. Favorite quote“To not eat you would be a disgrace. You’re too important for me let you rot.”

I love how Wilder’s books give her readers little snippets into the lives of her characters. The last we saw of Alex and Mike they were beginning a new chapter in their lives, a chapter where they were no longer best friends. A chapter where one found that he was no longer even human. That was twelve years ago in Lesser-Bred Stained. Alex has since become a sheriff deputy and Mike has grown quite used to being Lesser-Bred. Alex still has some deep issues when it comes to all that happened twelve years ago on that camping trip and his hospital stay there after. The closure and answers he needed were never received. These issues lead him strait to accusing Mike of the murder that has occurred in the town in which he now works and calls home. Alex still views Mike and everything Kin as monsters. Blaming him for murder and being a serial killer is not too far of a stretch. Lesser-Bred: Marked was a very emotional read. Alex has to come to terms with some things that he hoped never to have to face. Mike has missed his best friend. He knows that his becoming scared Alex, hell it scared him too. Reading how these two men came back together to rediscover their friendship and try to knit the fracture was remarkable. Alex gets to learn about an entire race of beings, a race of being that he has loathed while trying to find the serial killer among them. As with Wilder’s books her characters don’t get a definitive happily ever after. This chapter of Alex and Mike’s life has come to a close. There is a happily for now. The issue and conflict has been wrapped up. There is not a cliffhanger to frustrate. There is the opening that readers will see more of Alex. His career choices and changes are going to put him in Atlanta, (where some of Wilder’s other books takes place with her Kin.) There are several sexual encounters, but I would no way classify this book as a romance.

**Warning** There is no HEA in this story and it has both m/f and m/m.This was another excellent installment with the Kin (Dragon) world. I was hoping for a happy ending, but was okay with what went down. It would be great to have a book after this one where Alex gets to belong. Be sure to have your kleenex with you when reading this one because it is a real tear jerker.

Personally I liked this sequel better then the former book. For me the plot is a lot faster going and I never expected the end it got.(view spoiler)[ I love it, if it´s not all sunshine and flowers!(hide spoiler)]The world the Autor created is great as always and I got a lot more insight for the feelings of the caracters. What I´m not liking about this book is that the changes in the point of few were more annoying than in the former one. All in all I can give it 3 stars.

Love Adrienne Wilder's writing, but this book left me feeling like it was unfinished. Maybe there is more to come for Alex and friends. Unlike book one, there was no "to be continued" tag so maybe this is the end for this series.

I'm totally addicted to this author's world building. Engrossing and moving. The end totally got me crying! I'm eagerly awaiting the next book.

And again, that story plot doesn't get any better compare to first book.

I can't tell you how angry I am with the author at this moment. Be aware that if you read this series, it is NOT a romance. It is a dark urban fantasy with a very sad ending.
