Nick was always in a hurry to get home and it was all because of Maxi. She had made his life a good one. He had never believed marriage, a child and a normal life could be so wonderful. Then his past came back to haunt him.Maxi called to tell him that J. B. was keeping her company until Nick got home.Nick was a retired assassin and they wanted him to do a job for them. The message they sent ripped his heart from his chest, crushed him. They didn't seem to be afraid of him, but they should have been.5 STARS - Would Buy It For Them (lol)I love the covers of the Hunter Series books. They are vibrant and alive. I immediately want to pick them up and read them.My favorite genre is murders, mysteries and thrillers - Ella Medler does not let me down. I kicked back in my lounger and let her take me away with Nick. Riveting from the very beginning. The writing was FUN. I loved the humorous, sarcastic, snappy dialogue.I loved Spyder Tequila. She was flippant, confident and had a sassy attitude. The banter between her and Nick was wonderful. They were comfortable around each other and there was no doubt of their trust. But, can you ever really trust someone, 100%, anyone? What do you think? I want to see more of her please. ^_^When Tequila and Nick were talking about the girl hanging back from the others and why she was so sad (people watching), it made me think of my girlfriend. We would do the same thing - try to figure out the persons job, were they married, what kind of car did they drive.........I could picture Tequila, leaning back against the counter with her ankles crossed and a wicked grin on her face as she goads Nick. It made me laugh out loud. I felt like I was there, watching them banter back and forth goodnaturedly. I could relate to her easily. The ending was awesome. I smiled again. But you will have to read the book to find out why.I am looking forward to Book II of The Hunter Series, which is due out tomorrow, so stay tuned to fundinmental to get your peek at another great Hunter book. Check out the cover below.Favorite Quotes:"As soon as one got close to people one became responsible.""Heavy burden, trust. Don't you think? " "Blood Is Heavier.""Careful,'re going to squeeze all the love out of me."How sweet. I could picture it. I couldn't help but smile with tears in my eyes.I can't remember how I received this book, but I believe it was a free Amazon day. Thank you Ella Medler for sharing the love.Ella Medler

Nick is living the American dream. He has a successful business, a beautiful home, he’s married to the love of his life, Maxi, and has a 4-year-old son, Cameron, who steals his breath when he hears his laughter. He never dreamed he’d settle down and be in such a rush to get home every day. It was his whole world now. Then, it was all gone in an instant. With one phone call, his world comes tumbling down. His wife calls him on his cell to remind him to pick up their son from a birthday party. She tells him his friend JB is at the house with her, waiting for him to return.JB is a bad man, one he never hoped to meet again. He’s a part of Nick’s past. A past filled with killing. That JB was there with his wife sent chills down his spine. Nick knew him for what he was. Killers always recognize each other.Nick wrestles with whether to pick up his son first or rush home to deal with JB. In the end, his decision doesn’t matter. It’s been taken out of his hands. The trap was too well set.In a blinding flash of light, his hopes and dreams explode. One moment he sees Maxi waving at him in the window. In the next, the house disintegrates with a loud whoomp. This scene made me think of the movie The Punisher. The part where they come and kill his whole family. The scenes don’t read the same but the feelings I had were as powerful. First there’s the shock and horror. Then there’s disbelief and sadness. Who could do such a thing?I could see this scene play out in slow motion, like tunnel vision, Nick racing to his house, but there’s nothing left of it but a fiery pile. The sharks from Nick’s past have caught up with him, and this is their warning to him. They now have his son, and he’ll do what they want or he’ll never hear his sons laughter again. The last time Nick saw his wife she was smiling and waving to him, right before the house exploded. This vision would replay over and over in his mind, fueling the fires for the reckoning to come.“What becomes of one half when the whole gets ripped to shreds? When you have no hope, how do you continue to exist?”They murdered his heart and now they’ve stolen his soul, his son. You know what follows. Rage and a deep, aching need to spill blood. And blood will be spilled.I loved the pacing of this book and how the author flashed back to different times in Nick’s past.It was fun to read about how Nick and Maxi met and the pickle they got in. Their connection was quick, but that’s only natural when you might be about to die.The author takes you to the past and back again, keeping the story flowing smoothly and filling in the details. She keeps you entertained and builds the mystery, dropping in hidden clues, making you go this way and that way like weaving through heavy traffic.Make sure you set aside plenty of time before you settle in. You’ll have a hard time stopping before you reach the end.Five smoking guns for the thrilling action and tantalizing suspense of Blood is Heavier.

Our story revolves around Nick Hunter in the present and the horrible memories from his past. This is an extremely thought out thriller that will keep you up way past your bed time.I will try to explain without explaining too much. I don't like reading spoiler reviews because then there is no real need to read the book. It is, well, spoiled. Our hero, Nick, is ex military and after that, fell into a more dangerous field of work as a sort of hit man. With nothing to love and no close friends besides Tequila, he was comfortable in his life as a killer. Until...well, feeling overconfident in even his charm he agrees to a bet with Tequila that sends his world into uncharted waters. Maxi's waters.Always the one to choose the wrong man, Maxi realizes real fast that Nick's life isn't all peaches and cream - can't tell you why because it would be a spoiler - but she is indeed interested in Nick's wild lifestyle. And Nick is most definitely interested in whatever Maxi has to offer.5 years later their perfect world together comes to a tragic and heartbreaking end. Nick's old life has caught up with him. His old colleagues want him back on a job. When Nick says no, he never dreams the price of the refusal will be the life of his wife, and his 4 year old son getting kidnapped.Of course the men who killed Nick's wife and took his son underestimated Nick's skill. Little did they know just exactly how dangerous of a man they would be dealing with after taking his whole reason for living. Nick appears to abide by their rules, knowing they will not hesitate to kill Cameron, but his mind continuously plots a way to get his son back safely and still make each and every one of the bad guys pay for what they have done.Tequila, hidden from the sight of the bad guys and Nick, tries to help in any way she can, but she can't let Nick know that his wife is still alive for fear of him doing something foolish. No more teasers for you. You will have to read it and find out for yourself. The twists and turns will have you gritting your teeth in anticipation. You will feel the emotions of each and every character. Numerous times I found my heart racing as if I was present for it all.I highly recommend this novel to any Thriller lover, and well, actually I recommend it to everyone. If you've never been a fan of the genre, this one is sure to change your mind. Put yourself in Nick Hunter's shoes and see for yourself what it's like to lose everything important to you in the blink of an eye, and then what it feels like to have the courage to go and take it back.Extremely great writing. Highly recommended. 5 stars from me! My heart is still racing. I can't wait for the second book.

What would you do, what lengths would you go, to keep your family safe? That’s the central issue for former mercenary/contract killer Nick Hunter in Blood is Heavier by Ella Medler (@EllaMedler). The key word there is “former,” as Nick chucked that life five years earlier to start anew with his wife Maxi, and later their son Cameron. But everyone who’s ever seen an action/thriller movie knows leaving a life like that can be pretty tough. A powerful criminal wants Nick to do a very special job and he uses the two people Nick cares about most to ensure the former killer-turned-suburbanite won’t refuse. No spoilers, but the story gets off to a crackerjack beginning before taking a slight detour to provide some backstory. After that things move forward to the resolution of this novel; a sequel is planned for release in May 2013 to carry an over-arching storyline forward.(Note: review based on a copy of the novel I won via a giveway on FUONLYKNEW, a book review blog run by Laura Thomas. Never heard of it? You’re missing out.)Blood is Heavier is told from the points of view of various characters, but — something I liked — the chapters are not all lined up nose-to-tail time-wise. For instance, the start of a new chapter may be several minutes or hours earlier or later than the end of the last. While this creates some overlaps and gaps in the story that may confuse less-careful readers, to me it felt very natural, especially as the characters acted and reacted appropriately when eventually discovering new information from each other. The characters are well-developed even though the plot moves quickly, but I must admit to having some doubts about the plan hatched by the bad guys. It seemed, at times, to be overly-complex for the desired goal; at least once I caught myself asking “why didn’t they just” do something in a more straight-forward manner. A late reveal adds some context and sets up the sequel, but seems a tad over-baked. But then again, who’s to say the sequel won’t pay-off entirely on that late reveal? I enjoyed Blood is Heavier quite a bit and am looking forward to finding out. To learn more about Ms. Medler and her writing, visit her website and/or her blog.

Review of “Blood is Heavier: a Nick Hunter Mystery”, by Ella MedlerThere’s a saying that states, “You can never go home again”. With Nick Hunter, it’s just a bit different: You can never go back to safety…ever.Once he took on that life as a hired gun, in answer to the horrors of a military operation gone terribly bad, life was never the same again. He picked entirely the wrong employers—ones who would not take “no” for an answer. Somehow, Nick thought that if he proved himself to be such a heartless killer, they would respect him when it finally came time to quit the business. But such was not the case. When he tried to come clean and live a normal, peaceful life, those who had hired him did not want him to retire. They found him—and his wife. And his son. And his house…And just like that, what was most precious to Nick was gone from him.Now he must follow their commands, and perform another murder in order to get his kidnapped son back. It’s a cat-and-mouse game of chase and follow—but with the additions and subtractions of the cats and mice involved, who will be picking their teeth at the end? From the outset, Ms. Medler shines in her ability to switch genres with a masterful touch. Her book, “Martin Little: Resurrected”, was the first one I’d read of her works, and I was expecting more of the same. This is nothing like that one.Dark, dramatic, mysterious, at times near-terrifying, this book kept me interested until the very end. Ms. Medler has a deft way with detail. From the first, Nick is a genuinely nice person – one who you would not suspect of killing anything bigger than a mole in his back yard. He thinks himself unloveable because of his past, but his innate goodness proves otherwise. This is what makes him such a sympathetic character.Tequila, a woman with whom he has a past, is a mystery. There is no way to ascertain her intent throughout most of this book, until it is imperative to know. Ms. Medler keeps that to herself until just the right moment—like I said, masterful. The sequel, “Blood is Power”, is one I am looking forward to eagerly.www.ellamedler.wordpress.comNext one – Blood is Power

My love for thrillers is officially back!Hotness Factor: All the action I need!4.5 blazing starsOnce again, no blurb reading for Danny! An action thriller set in London, I thought, this would just be a real treat for me! I used to read these types of books before and until early June I almost forgot how much I've always loved that genre. Readers may not realize how much research is involved in the writing process, especially for a genre like thriller. The thought of writing a fight scene still intimidates me :)But Ella Medler...she delivered! (Sassy finger snap) She put me right in the center of the action, sometimes I even knew more than the characters which was a very good way. You know me, I'm always screaming at me poor Android and biting my poor lower lip when things are really juicy! Nothing like a book mentioning good and reliable Asda to make me smile... Nick Hunter... now who was daft enough to poke a sleeping bear like this one? The fact that we only scratched the surface in Blood Is Heavier of what Nick was really capable of...genius!Tequila... a badass chick and a badass drink, I enjoyed her the most in this book! Girl Power! Duh...I'm so happy, the second book is already out! I recommend! I recommend! I recommend!

The tags for this book on Smashwords are “fiction, thriller, suspense, murder, action, kidnap”. These are accurate, but what they don’t include is “romance”, “love”, or “endless soul searching”.I enjoyed the writing style, but thought that the story was slightly illogical. Our hero, Nick Hunter, is an ex-Army, ex-gun for hire tortured by an incident from his army days. He meets the love of his life on a beach and he determines to leave the work he has been doing and devote himself to his new love.Everything goes according to plan until someone from his past decides that murdering his wife and kidnapping his son is the best way to make him help them with a “job”. What follows is Nick being led around the country until the day of the job. This is well done and readable. What threw me out of the story was that I could not imagine why they needed him at all. The final straw to break this reviewers back was when a four-year old swims across a reservoir at night to feel safer than being on dry land. And a hero who spends most of his time thinking rather than doing.More Romance than Thriller, this was not my cup of tea.(I read the Kindle Edition which I downloaded for free during a promotion).

As always, Ella did a great job on Blood is Heavier. The storyline is intense from the beginning. I was on the edge of my seat, unable to put it down. Nick Hunter is a contract killer, the best. On a dare from his friend Tequila, he approaches Maxi, a young woman who looks withdrawn and hurt. Well, needless to say its love at first site for these two. For five years they disappear and live the perfect life, now with a four year old son, Cameron. What Nick never expects is for his past to come blowing up before his eyes. His wife is murdered, his son kidnapped, and Nick forced to commit the unthinkable kill, in order to get his son back. You will be on the edge of your seat. You have action, adventure, mystery, romance, thriller, all in a great package. I do think Nick spent too much time thinking, not enough doing, but overall, enjoyed it very much. I was left with a big question mark, so I hope there will be a sequel.

Ella Medler's BLOOD IS HEAVIER begins with an engaging introduction to Nick Hunter and the people in his life. Medler accomplishes that most difficult of tasks for a novelist -- she makes the reader care about her protagonist immediately, and then BAM ... in the space of a few sentences Nick's placid day turns upside down, putting everything and everyone he holds dear in jeopardy. The rest of the book is a rollicking roller coaster of one difficult situation after another. All the while I found myself wondering how the characters would or could come out all right, and hoping desperately they would do so. The characters show determination, ingenuity, and some mad skills they obviously learned in dark places. Medler kept me engaged the whole way through and the ending satisfies. If you're looking for an action-packed escape populated with interesting characters and complex, realistic relationships, you will definitely enjoy this book!

Blood is Heavier is a mystery thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next. I was literally up all day and night reading to book so I could get to the end to see if he would prevail. Nick Hunter is a strong male lead who is very likable and you will be rooting for him throughout the book. I don't want to give away any spoilers because this is a mystery/thriller. I found that throughout the book, there were lots of twists and turns...and I kept hoping that Nick would come out on top (can't tell you how or why because that would give it away!)I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a page turning thriller that will keep you up all night. It was an emotional roller coaster of a read that I can say I was happy to be on!

Move over Robert Ludlum! It's wonderful to find yet another fresh new author with an extreme talent. The only thing I didn't like about this book was the fact that the end left me hanging a little bit. I'm hoping it was to get me ready for a sequel. I won't be so arrogant as to say the book was well written. I will say I love Ella's way of writing. The pace of the plot was excellent, but it wasn't just about the plot. The way this author made the main character so very human is wonderful. We have all struggled with difficult decisions that test our moral. I love books where the main character has an inner struggle. The main plot was completely resolved by the end of the book, but there is still some mystery to look forward to. Is there going to be a sequel?

As an old John Buchan fan, I was delighted to open this book and find myself in a traditional action adventure novel. The likable, but troubled, hero, the disastrous web of trouble reaching out from his past, and a cute little boy combined to have me literally on the edge of my seat. The book avoids the obvious trap of a too-happy ending (I shan't say more for fear of spoiling), and altogether I felt Ms Medler handled it with restraint - the love bits are never soppy, the ending not too happy, the horror bits not too graphic - the book all round is characterised by a degree of self-control that I can only wish were emulated by more of today's authors.Thoroughly enjoyable read and I will certainly be looking for more from this author.

What a great book ! How would you feel if you thought your spouse was murdered in front of your eyes and you can't do anything to save them? All the time you thought they were dead and trying to save your son from people you dont want to have anything to do with . The storyline kept you on the edge wondering what will happen next . Never knowing what will come around the corner... It truly kept me wondering ... Awesome book i would recommend this book. I can't wait for book 2 and found out the continuation of this series... I give this book 5/5 stars.

I thought this book was excellent. I personally enjoyed all the description because it paints a very vivid picture for the reader. There were moments when I was a bit confused as to what was going on with the jumping around, but it didn't take long to figure it out. And I was left with quite a few questions unanswered in the end, but considering there's a sequel, perhaps that is why. All in all, I thought this book was well written and it kept me interested throughout. I wanted to keep reading to know what would happen and I even found myself getting a bit emotional a few times.

Oh my. Just like Maxi, I’m in love with a hit man. This is one wild ride. I stayed up way too late because I could not put this book down. I have a date for tonight with him again for the second book. I am going to start early so I can get some sleep in. Hooked good by this one and I enjoyed every minute. For the record I was given this book for a fair and honest review. I purchased the second one. Looking forward to it.

Blood is Heavier by Ella Medler is fast-paced detective noir featuring Nick Hunter, a retired contract killer whose world is torn asunder by shadowy figures from his past. Five years earlier, his beloved Maxine Hamilton was murdered, leaving him to bring up their son Cameron. With his old friend Tequila by his side, he is forced to track down the people responsible for kidnaping the boy. Chief Inspector Newman is assigned to the case and is trying to piece the puzzle together. Only Nick is faced with the possibility of his past coming back to condemn him before he can rescue his son from the ghosts of the past. The theme of retribution resonates throughout the novel as Nick tries to even the score after Maxi is killed. He finds his competition with his ex-military comrade Axel Stern renewed as it appears that Axel was directly involved with both the murder and the recent kidnaping. Behind the scenes we find the wealthy Dollar De La Rue, an arch-villain who has a reputation for eating human liver. There is also the shifty Jesse Bent lurking around corners waiting for Nick to let his guard down. We are waiting for Nick to explode at any moment, but the author’s web of intrigue has him caught so tightly we wonder if justice will be served, and to whom. Will Nick get his comeuppance for his evil past, or can he redeem himself against the predators that rule the world he forsook?Pick up a copy of Blood is Heavier by Ella Medler. I've read some excellent books lately and I have had enough of books that irritate the life of me within the first few pages. The writing style annoys me , fast and furious yet cheesy and TV Disaster movie style. It was highly praised and it may well be good but it just gets on my nervesWe need an 'abandoned ' section here , because I have chucked it, not read it.

This story is part of a box set I am reading and found it to be a good read.Following a traumatic event, Nick has choices to make - how far will he go?Nick Hunter is a believable character and fits well into this crime story. The villain is brilliant to hate!A good plot unveiled nicely through the easy writing style.Worth a look.
