Through Winter Skies Reviews
***Rating 3.0 to 3.5 Stars***Evans Family Book Two was a good read but in my opinion it did not live up to Book One. Let me begin by saying I enjoyed it but was disappointed by certain events that happened near the end.We take a look back at the horrific attack that happened ten years ago. There was a home invasion and brutal stabbing that left Emery Flores dying. Zach Evans was her neighbor and the hero who rescued her from certain death. The traumatic incident spurred Zachary into a life of law enforcement and he was a man on a mission. When a case lands on Zachary Evans desk he quickly sees it is a continuation of the horrible events that still plague his dreams. This information sends Zach on a frantic search for his childhood friend, Emery Flores, but she is no where to be found and has been living in seclusion since her recovery from that fated day.Emery Flores is emotionally and physically scarred from that awful day and escaped to the mountains of Colorado while pursuing her career as an artist. She is stunned when a face from the past shows up at her door while a blizzard is quickly approaching. I cannot thoroughly explain what troubled me in this book as it is a spoiler that most of you would not appreciate, but I will just say this: I did not like how Zach handled a couple of things and the non-existent communication during this time. I am sure there are a lot of you that it will not bother at all--but it did bother me. However, the story did end in a HEA but for me it was clouded by the lack of communication.
I like this author's novels. They grab me and I want to read them non-stop. In this sequel, Emery Marie Flores, as a teenager, went through a horrible attack on herself and friend, witnessing his death. She herself survived after her throat was cut only because of the quick action to save her by her school friend, Zachary Evans. They had been great friends as neighbors, but after this crime, Emery withdraws from society, even from her friends and her mother. Eventually, she seeks a secluded life in a cabin in the mountains of Colorado. Zachary himself has gone on to become an FBI agent, mostly because of the crime perpetrated on Emery. Zach's boss calls him into his office and informs him that one of the men that had been incarcerated for the crime was on the run after he escaped from a vehicle transporting him to another facility was run off the road. Zach was concerned about Emery's safety, but no one knows, even her mother, where Emery is living. Zach needs to find her, but how? And will he find her before the criminal Augustin does? This story is full of suspense, restoring friendship and love, healing, and the challenges of winter isolation. Collette Scott is a great storyteller. I look forward to reading more of her novels.
Emery and Zach were best friends. But one night ten years ago something terrible happened and they both drifted apart. Now Emery needs Zach's help and he has to find a way to breach the walls.Although this book is part of a series, it can be read alone without missing anything. I loved this book as much, if not more, than the first book. The story is well written and the characters are so fun to get to know. Ms. Scott has a way of capturing the reader and drawing them into the story. I felt the desperation, pain, love and urgency through out the story. I can definitely say that Collette Scott has become a new favorite author of mine. Check out the series if you enjoy romance, mystery and suspense.I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review.
Emery has physically survived a brutal attack on her life when a teenager. Now ten years later she is a recluse living in the mountains of Colorado cut off from friends and family by choice living with the brutal nightmares of the attack she survived living in fear if her attackers find her again. Zack is the friend that interrupted the attack and saved her life. Now an FBI agent working on taking out gangs in Phoenix he has shown up at the cabin to warn her her attackers are out of prison and possibly looking for her and the money they think she has.
I found this book to be an eye opener. I love her books. She knows how to capture a reader, hook line and sinker in the first chapter. This one grabbed my by the heart and squeezed. The ordeal that emery suffered was horrific and the way that out changed her life was so upsetting but at the same time undeniable. I was so happy when Zach re-entered her life. It shows how unreadable true love can be. Zach melted my heart with all that he does for emery. Just an all or amazing, edge of you're seat book. I encourage anyone to read anything by Colette Scott.
GoodHave not read it yet. Will read it as soon as this will let me read it. See you soon
I'm enjoying this author and the series. This book in particular was intense and full of emotion.
A great romantic suspense! Zach and Emery were great character with a complicated past. I was gripped by the storyline from the very beginning!
It ran a little longer than it needed to be.
