I read the opening part twice and it's still confusing the pisscakes out of me. Hard for me to get into a story web I don't know who is who or what's going on or what the pov is. It seems really awkward trying to read it. Mayber it's just me?He's the contracted father of some warrior woman? What does that mean? He's like a stay at home dad? They had sex once just to make the baby? Eh the one guy disappears so he just gets whores. But it's okay he doesn't think of them like people"They were bodies, mouths and asses and cunts for him to fuck." I for one dot care care to read about him and his whores especially when it's done nothing to even develope the other character. You know nothing about him so who cares he's disappeared? He makes the whores sleep on the floor at the foot of the bed. I don't like this guy or the story at all so far And it's repetitive. The whole conversation with the whore he can't remember because he's such a drunk is then all repeated with the female warrior lady. Making the whore scene even more pointless than it already was. I for one couldnt care less about how he spends his time with whores debating whether or not to sure kids with his favorite brother sister whore team. His favorite but he still doesn't even remember their names or anything. But hey why not have kids with them. Guess I kissed where it wanted that in the prompt and tags I made it to 65% or so before giving up. It's slow and way too much time wasted on whores and just stuff that's boring. I made it to when they finally meet again after a boring battle and I just don't care why he became a traitor. I for care if slut and traitor get bak together. It's not like you actually know either character and there is no chemistry or tension between them. Reading as far as I did was a waste of time, a great prompt but extremely weak story execution IMO

Belinda wasted a great book on a free read! I sure hope she takes this and expands on it and brings it to full novel length.Wow! The world building is fantastic - I was propelled into it from the very beginning. It's clever and smart and so well done, that for a free read, I found it engrossing. This is how you should write when people say "lose the backstory" and "no info dumps."Not a lot of sexing, but this is more about characters than the sex between them. Sai is tortured, and you can feel his pain and his anguish and he wallows in it - exhausting himself for the first few years of searching for his lost lover.Arick - I'd love to see him expanded in the novel - to what he felt and saw when falling for Sai - with the added burden of his child. And Julianna's character, the warrior woman who still has a child, is so interesting.I want Belinda to go further with this story - beyond the end also. For me, there wasn't enough, and that's the sign of a great story.

A swordsmith falls in love with a man he is commissioned to make a set of magical swords for. They spend many years together until one day that man is taken in battle. The swordsmith doesn't believe him dead and becomes hardened to all as he searches for his lost love, finally crossing swords with him literally. When he is knocked out and taken prisoner, he thinks his love a traitor. But there is more to it.The story is told from both points of view, so we see what is going on in both their heads, which is a good thing for understanding motivations and empathizing. Just going to warn you now that this is the start to a longer story, so if you want to know what happens after, Belinda says she's working on that. =)

This was written from the pic I selected and the letter I wrote to go along with it, and to me, it couldn't have been any more perfect. I fell instantly in love with Sai and Arick and the story had me crying by the end. Belinda said this is the start of a new universe and I can't wait for that to happen.

This was very good. A 3.5 star story for me. Ms. McBride pulls me into her stories with her awesome characters. The sex in this is hot with the D/s. With the swordplay and the blood, it's all exciting for me.This story seems like such a tiny taste of what could be larger. I want more. I want to learn what happens to the evil sorcerer. Will Arick and Sai bring it all down? How will they fight this evil bastard? A lovely little start of a tale which it's full tale told.

I was pleasantly surprised by this short story. The story line was well done and the characters held depth. The ending was open enough that it could easily be continued and I truly hope the author does so. I liked the struggle for forgiveness and reconciliation between Arick and Sai. I was excited to see them finally come together. Adult read

Interesting idea and worldbuilding. Prince of Persia? Yay! I liked the premise and the story was rather good, but, unfortunately, undeveloped. Seriously, it's a material for something bigger/longer. With adventure, action, romance, magic...It could be better, cause it had so much potential! Too bad that unused.3 stars, in the end. I guess.

This was OK for me. Didn't have anything special that made me jump up and down, but it also wasn't a bad story. It was well written and I liked the explanation/events at the end after the 2 MC's were reunited.

A great story, I liked the characters, the plot, the world and the fast-paced narration. There could have been a few sentences more now and then. The world of Sai Raine the magic sword smith and mercenary, and his lover the army officer Arick, has the potential for more stories. :-)

A powerful story that shows that love can overcome evil not matter what is happening in the world around you.
