I got an advance read of this book. It was incredible! Macy Beckett is sure to be a star. LOVED the dialogue. I laughed out loud many times, knowing guys who would say *exactly that.* The characters are all amazing - can't wait for the book about Trey. Slight spoiler - the scene with Lucas (hero) and Trey (best friend) in the hospital is priceless. That scene and two others are so awesome, I'm dying to talk about it with others! LOL The entire book was a very fun ride. I think I have a new auto-buy author! C'mon Trey's book!

3.5 - 4 stars. A fun contemporary romance set in a small southern town in Texas. Great characters, cheeky humor, sassy dialogue, and likable characters. A great read for fans of unrequited love stories. There was too much hot/cold back and forth between H/h which felt forced in places, but otherwise a great read.

I was dying to get my hands on this book just from the summary on Goodreads! I was lucky enough to get an ARC from netgalley and as soon as i clicked the button on my Kindle, I couldn't put the dang thing down!June is an absolutely adorable character who is so full of determination and back bone, I want to be her real life friend! And Luke...oh, my! That man makes my toes curl! How did it take him so long to see that what he had to offer June was simply himself? Having a history with someone can cause all kinds of complications, especially when that history has a bit of a gap in it. You think you have to fill in all the holes to know the entire person, but that's just not true. June knew him and I'm so glad she showed him what was always the truth; that he was worthy of loving and of being loved.Their banter was flawless; not candy store sweet but completely real and believable. I laughed, cheered, bit fingernails, re-read paragraphs, highlighted sections, and even choked up in a few places. And the "naughty parts", well...like I said...toes curled! This book had absolutely everything that I love in a book. It was sweetness, sassiness, a few heart-clenchy moments and tied up with a pretty bow. I loved it and am crossing my fingers for an ARC of the next two in this series!Macy Beckett may be a first time writer, but you'd NEVER know it. I hope she'll keep the good books coming!

Our heroine in this delightful story is June Augustine. Her full name is Mae-June July Augustine; is it any wonder she prefers to be called June? She is a young woman, about to start on her dream career. She has given up everything she owns to start a high class martini bar, in Austin Texas with her friend and fellow backer Esteban. The only thing left is to arrange for her liquor license, and Luquos will be on its way. But, she finds out there is a bench warrant on record for her from nine years ago in her home town, Sultry, Texas. The only way to clear up this mess is to appear before the judge in Sultry.Luke Gallagher, our hero, is divorced, ex- military, and a contractor in Sultry. He runs a non-profit company called Helping Hands, to repair and rebuild homes for people who can't afford the work. He grew up in the home of Pudence Foster, June’s grandmother. His Mom left with his little sister when he was twelve, and he was taken in by Pru. June was also raised by her grandmother, June’s parents died when she was seven. She and Luke were best friends, even more so after he started living with them. She worshiped him from afar, he tolerated her tagging along.Prudence loves the children, has a strong Christian Fundamental background, and rules with an iron hand. Nine years ago, they broke her heart, and she sent them away. She has since learned to regret this hasty decision.Luke has quite an eclectic crew working for him. One man is Trey, his foreman, and his best friend, from his military days. Trey enjoys a reputation with women. Luke describes his talent,” Trey flashes his dimples-the ones that make panties drop like lead". June is in town, doing community service for 30 days. Her options are Helping Hands, or church. Luke prays she picks the church. This novel has a lot of laughter, scary mishaps, stubbornness and an abundance of love.I enjoyed every page, and would highly recommend it.I received this ARC from NetGalley and the author for an honest review.

I got this book in the giveaway. It's an ARC book. But I have to say, I had a lot of trouble putting this book down. It is good. About a girl who got her heart broke by her best friend. Left town for 9 years and was brought back by a ticket. She meets the guy again, and it's awkward. But she reunites with the Gram she left behind and builds bridges all the while trying not to fall for the guy again. I'm not going to say to much because you need to read this for yourself. I really enjoyed this book and would read it again.

Kudos Ms. Beckett for the little twist!Look forward to reading more from this author! ** Just a side note: It seems that my favorite ALL-TIME male literary leads are named Lucas (Luke), and Lucas in the story certainly meets the my criteria *grin*! LOVE HIM!! **

Amanda's review posted on Guilty Pleasures5 StarsSultry with a Twist by Macy Beckett is the debut romance novel and for me it is definitely a hit. She blends the right amount of turmoil, anguish, heartache, drama and romance that pulled on my emotions in all different directions. Luke and June were meant to be together and it took a bogus bench warrant to get her to return to her hometown of Sultry, Texas. June vowed that she would never return, but in order to go forward with the opening of her new upscale bar in Austin, she had to go back and take care of this legal matter. What she didn’t know was that she would be thrown back into the path of the man that broke her heart all those years ago. It was going to be a long month of community service and telling herself that he was OFF LIMITS if she was going to survive with her heart intact. It’s one thing to say it in your head but there is no denying what the heart says when it comes right down to it for both Luke and June. Luke felt unworthy of June and didn’t have anything to offer her so he kept her at arm’s length and only wanted her for the short term. He definitely had commitment issues with his mother’s abandonment and failed marriage; so what did he know about love? June took it upon herself to show him love and it took a grand gesture for him to finally realize that she loved him. Luke almost blew it but what he did at the end made me fall in love with him, flaws and all.June was a girl after my own heart. She worked hard for what she wanted and sacrificed things in order for her dream to come true. What she didn’t count on was her dream changing. Ms. Beckett created a strong, mature heroine over the course of the story and it was insightful to see how her 9 year absence cost her precious time with her grandmother. She even took heed of the sermon she heard about love and decided that she would show Luke how to love. That made her a less of a self-centered individual and a better well-rounded adult that I can admire. This was an incredible story written with great dialogue between Luke and June, and even better between Luke and his best friend Trey. They had me laughing out loud when those two got together. She brought it all together in this story with sultry sex scenes, witty banter, and an engrossing story I’m sure it will draw you in as well. I look forward to the next one in her new series with Trey’s story. I’ll even steal the slogan from the author’s website itself and say “Welcome to Sultry Springs, where first loves find second chances.”

Ho-o-ly...sugar!Some books explore family themes and small-town life, others offer characters so real you worry about them whenever you're not devouring the pages. And then there are books that give you a very real, sock-in-the-gut love story.Sultry with a Twist happens to have all of the above.Macy Beckett's debut novel is clever, funny, and sweet. I doubt you'll soon forget Mae-June July Augustine or Luke Gallagher. Even the secondary characters, Pru, Bea, and especially Mr. Dimples (Trey) continue to haunt you...in a good way...long after you close the back cover. Poignant without being sappy, hot without being gratuitous, this book gives and keeps on giving until it hurts. If you want a sigh-worthy happily-ever-after, take a trip to Sultry Springs, Texas. You won't be sorry.

Fantastic new series! I cannot wait to read the next one, but I'll have to wait til March :( The character development was so complete I felt like I knew them in another life. It was funny when it needed to be and heart-warming too. It just made me happy to read it, like a Nora Roberts book, but with the humor of a Rachel Gibson book.

This new-to-me-author fills the pages of this second chance at love story with captivating characters, laugh-out-loud humor and small town charm. The heat between Mae-June July Augustine (poor girl!) and Luke Gallagher sizzles and scorches. Both are flawed and wounded souls adding to the character development in each. The dialogues between them are filled with witty and comical one-liners that will keep a smile on your face. A wonderful assortment of tempting secondary characters raises the level of fun. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing a lot more of this spirited and captivating group as the series continues. Readers are gifted with an epilogue that charms and completes June and Luke's happily-ever-after.

Sultry with a Twist4 StarsJune Augustine returns to her home town of Sultry, Texas to sort out an arrest warrant from nine years ago. Forced to work side-by-side with Luke Gallagher, the man who broke her heart, June simply wants to complete her community service and get back to her life. Luke, on the other hand, wants nothing more than to start up where they left off, but can June’s heart handle another hit?A surprisingly sweet and steamy story of second chances and true love.Luke and June are an appealing and likable couple, and there is just the right amount of tension and angst in their relationship without crossing the line into irritating and annoying. June is an endearing klutz and it is amazing that she manages to survive the book in once piece. Nevertheless, the situations she gets herself into only add to her allure. Luke is an interesting mix of honorable and damaged. He has taken some hard knocks in life and finds it difficult to believe in love, but June isn’t willing to give up on him.The small town setting and quirky secondary characters are entertaining. The contrast between the religious community and the sexy romance also contributes to the charm of the story. All in all, a lovely contemporary romance recommended for readers who enjoy laugh-out loud dialogues and reading with a smile on their faces.

I really wanted to wait and read the paperback copy that I preordered in March, but I just couldn't do it. When it came available for E-readers in September, I bought it again. I just got around to reading it this week and let me tell you. I LOVED IT!Mae- June July Augustine was a wonderful character. She was so real, I felt like I knew her in real life. She wasn't your traditional perfectly beautiful woman, she was tall and had brown hair (lately everyone has red hair, what the heck is up with that?!!?) and a good set of hips. She was clumsy, klutzy, but she tried so hard to help everyone. She made me laugh and she had me tearing up. She was that kind of character.Luke Gallagher warmed my heart. Never given a fair shot at life from a young age, his character has over come so much to be the man (and boy what a man) that he is today. His loyalty is so strong, you can feel it seep through the pages. Together they just click. They come across as two puzzle pieces that click together.4 words for you here- The Pond, The Truck. Enough said about that. Can't wait until A Shot of Sultry!!!!

2.5 starsOkay, so there are things this book did well. It gets points for world building and an atypical setting. This is one of the more believable small towns I've read recently. It loses points, however, for the hero and the unequal amount of give and take in the h/hr's relationship. She literally gives up everything so he can have his dream and I know I'm supposed to think it's romantic and an act of love, but mostly I just thought it was stupid, especially when coupled with how he treated her when she was trying to teach him how to love. Which is actually a thing in the book.

Pitch perfect. The pacing is perfect, the tension is perfect.Don't worry about the story - the story is pretty contrived. June hasn't been to her hometown or talked to her grandmother in 9 years. But June just bought a bar in Austin, TX, and in order to get her liquor license, she is forced (I mentioned contrivances, right? I won't even go into why...) to spend a month in her hometown in Sultry County, TX, living with her grandmother, and doing community service, and rubbing shoulders (sometimes literally) with her childhood flame, Luke. She wants to be over him, but she still has a thing for him, and he's only gotten hotter over the years. He wants to be over her, but he still has a thing for her, and she's only gotten hotter over the years. If you're one of those people who just cannot STAND it when a few plot points don't make sense, you may not enjoy this one as much. I admit I did get a bit hung up on a few little things, like the cat issue: she stops at her bar, then stops a law office in Austin to see about that liquor license, it's super hot out, then drives down to Sultry, talks to the judge, THEN drives to her grandmother's, and her CAT IS IN THE CAT CARRIER IN HER CAR??? Uh, you just told me repeatedly how super hot it is! You can't leave an animal in a car for that long!! But okay, letting that stuff go ... It's a minor detail that I'm sure the author threw in at the end to explain why she still has her cat. The brief part about mowing a lawn was clearly written by someone who mows lawns, so that was nice.Sadly, this book falls apart at the halfway point. Suddenly we are trapped in the old "I love him, he rejects me, I love him, he rejects me" cycle. I was so eager to see her say, "oh yeah? Well fuck you and the horse you rode in on! Give me a call if you ever get your head out of your ass." Instead, she kept reflecting on some asinine sermon about how to love people, and an idiotic comment from her manipulative grandmother: "you need to teach him how to love." Spare me!! If he doesn't know how to love you, and he doesn't truly believe you love him, he's not going to change in a few days, he's going to doubt and reject you for the rest of your time together. And when you have kids, and you can't spend all your time being a doormat and teaching him how to love, he's going to find some other girl to "teach" him. Okay, so, yeah I'm a little bitter.I really resented how manipulative the grandmother had been, and how June puts HERSELF on a guilt trip over their 9 years apart, when it was the grandmother (THE ADULT in the relationship at the time) who did the ultimatuming and rejecting. And I really REALLY resented how manipulative Luke was! Every time June did something he didn't like, or seemed to be doing something risky, or even if she was doing something completely innocuous and his paranoidcrazybrain THOUGHT something bad might happen, he would attempt to manipulate her into leaving him. And how, you ask, would he try to do this manipulating? Why, he would turn into a complete asshole!! Yes, he would intentionally attempt to break her heart -over and over again- to get her to walk away from him. June, sweetie, TAKE THE MESSAGE AND DUMP HIM ALREADY! Did she dump him? No, of course not! She repeated her line: "I told you I'm not leaving and I won't leave you." And then she proceeded to stress over all the (non-existent) things SHE had done wrong to cause this mess. ... June, honey, they call that "co-dependence" and there are some good books by Melody Beattie that can help you with that.Sheesh.**deep breath**3 stars just because I loved the first half so much.Despite my frustration with the second half of this book, I'll definitely be reading more by this author. She has potential. Maybe the next book won't contain such manipulative characters. A Shot of Sultry is on my to-read list. **Fingers crossed!**

That is until she’s forced to serve one month of community service and isn’t allowed to leave the county. June plans on doing her 30 days and heading back to Austin and her new bar. She wants nothing to with Sultry Springs, or so she thinks. Now, she finds herself back in her grandmother’s house and even worse, face to face with Luke Gallagher her former best friend and first love. Luke is surprised when the sexy woman he’s checking from behind is June. He’s even more surprised that she’s spending the month back home and doing the community service with his company. He cares deeply for June, despite the fact that she has turned his life upside down. He calls her Calamity June, with good reason. But he can’t deny that he wants her.Gah! The sexual tension coming from these two is hot. So are their tempers. They both want each other but they each have their own reasons for staying away. Luke is very protective over June even though he hasn’t seen her in years. When Trey tries to make a move on her he sets his best friend straight even though he says he doesn’t want her. June is still hurt from him turning away from her all those years ago. June is very strong yet fragile, especially around Luke. Her past and the death of her parents are a big part of her. It’s one of the main reasons I think she feels she doesn’t fit in Sultry Springs and why people look down at her owning a bar. I love Luke, probably because he’s complicated. He’s had a rough childhood with his mother abandoning him, then his ex-wife was a trip and he doesn’t think he’s capable or deserving of love. So all those years ago when June told him that she loved him he pushed her away even though he knew she was special. Favorite QuoteShe whispered things he’d never heard her say before- filthy words that would make a porn star blush, and it made him want to drive her further, to see how she’d react when he pushed her over the edge. Skimming on hand along her round bottom, he lifted his lips from her nipple long enough to ask, “You kiss your grandmother with that mouth?”OverallI love those small town romances. And I love second chance love stories. What’s even better is when the writing is good. Sultry With A Twist had me laughing at moments, and then had my heart aching. One of my favorite things was the actual relationship between Luke and June. You could feel the love they have for each other, and not just while in bed. They had something special and it made the story that much more enjoyable.

This review was posted at Under the Covers SULTRY WITH A TWIST is a fun contemporary romance about a second chance at love. With a good amount of southern quirkiness and humor, the best part about this story was its southern charm. The little phrases and and all around small town lifestyle and people really got me.Mae-June July Augustine *giggles* had left Sultry Springs after the man she was in love with rejected her. She never looked back and for the past few years she's been building her life and her future in a bigger city. When things seem to finally be coming together for her, she's got the money to put down as part owner of a bar, she runs into trouble. And trouble brings her back to Sultry Springs.Luke was also back in town, has been for a while. After he left June he followed his military dreams, the those crumbled and he got married. Then that crumbled and he came back home. She has been the girl of his dreams, then and now. Life and a judge have put them now back together, in very close proximity and with every possible advantage to rekindling their relationship. The sexual tension between these two was great, flirty and fun. Although this book was recommended to me as a bit of a spicy read, I think I was expecting more on that end than I actually got, but the tension and attraction was there. The world was also very well developed. Like I said before, this book exudes southern charm and it has a sweet feel-good quality.Definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a sweet small town romance. I would love to see where the author takes the series from here. Now I just have to find out who will bring Trey to his knees.*ARC provided by publisher

I'm not going to review this one because the author is actually a friend of mine - a Nestie in fact. My policy in regards to Nestie authors is that I don't do critical reviews. I'd be biased, obviously, because I love them, and I'd never critique a friend's work unasked. So that explains the lack of critical review on this one and also gives you a heads up that I may be a bit biased in my love for this book.I don't typically read romance novels, but since this one is by a Nestie, I made an exception, and I'm so glad I did. The main character is Mae-June July Augustine, who left her small town life and the man who broke her heart years ago and hasn't looked back. It's not until she's paid her dues and is ready to open her own bar that she learns of an outstanding warrant from her days in Sultry Springs. The only way to get it off her record and move forward with her new life is to return to Sultry Springs to serve out a 30 day community service sentence - under the authority of the town's sheriff, her old flame, Luke Gallagher (love the name!).If you're looking for butterflies, this will provide them. I'm so excited for Macy and highly recommend that you check this one out if you're a fan of romance - or if you just want to support a deserving author. Thanks to Netflix for allowing me to review this one early.

Cover & Title - 4 out of 5Favorite Line - "Before Freddy Krueger goes to sleep at night, he checks his closet for your grandma."Favorite Character - Mae-June July Augustine (i figure her parents lost a bet & that's why she ended up with that name, or maybe the parents were stoned?) Now i know this is nothing to do with the book but every time i read Luke's full name all i could think about was Liam Gallagher and then Oasis songs would run through my head, it was mighty distracting. Apart from that I did really enjoy the book. I am not really a fan of second chance romances as i am a total cynic/grouch/grinch but i liked the book anyway. The characters each had a good back-story, which added depth to the story. I liked Luke & June together, their dialogue was at times super cute/sexy & i felt the chemistry was believable. I was happy with the way everything worked out & i liked the epilogue. I would recommend this book & I plan on reading more by this author. Click to visit my review blog

LOVED this book! I laughed. I cried. I had many face-hurting smiling moments. It was great!June is an awesome character that you can't help but adore. She's quick witted, fiercely loyal, and clumsy as heck. You just have to love her.Luke is H.O.T. Yes, he is a completely stubborn ass, but the hotness makes up for it!June & Luke's story is filled with so much fun, love, sexiness, devotion, and yet also stubbornness, confusion, miscommunication, tragedy and more. And I have to say...there were quite a few moments in this story where I needed to fan myself. Lots of steaminess! The supporting characters were such a great addition to this story. I'm excited to read more about Pru, Trey, Judge Bea, and the others in the rest of this series. They all brought their own personality to this lovely book.If you enjoy reading a good romance, definitely pick up this book! I can't wait to read the next one!

Luke can't believe his eyes when he sees June again. More so, he can't wrap his head around the fact that for the next few weeks she will be helping with the house he is repairing. Forced to work together and reconnect, Luke is suddenly remembering their good times together and doubting his decision to leave her in the first place. With a second shot at love, June and Luke learn more about each other, revealing authentic vulnerabilities and insecurities that create a solid platform for a relationship.Macy Beckett creates a great hero. Luke is warm, a little broody and fun - the perfect combination for a swoon worthy heartthrob. Beckett also introduces, Trey, Jake's best friend in a way that has me pining for the next book! If Beckett continues writing like this, she will have a loyal fan in me. SULTRY WITH A TWIST is a shining debut from Macy Beckett!Read this review in its entirety at Fresh Fiction

OHMAHGAWD...If I could give this book 10 stars I would. What a funny, sweet, awesome, amazing contemporary romance. From the first chapter till the very end I was completely engrossed in June and Luke's story. It was so fantastic. Her humor was hysterical, the story fun and so sweet. Macy Beckett's debut SULTRY WITH A TWIST is the perfect contemporary romance. This fantastic story is small town romance at its best.Mae June July Augustine has worked incredibly hard to achieve her dream of running her own upscale bar. Yet devastating news hits when she finds out there is problem with her liquor license because of legal issue back in her hometown. June left Sultry Springs, Texas four years ago and never looked back because a man broke her heart. Now she's forced to go back for one month of community service working with that same insufferable man who is just as gorgeous as he was back then. Yet Luke Gallagher has changed in other ways because he's certainly not the same young boy she once knew so well. As they relive old memories and ignite old flames once again, June realizes running away from Sultry Springs this time may not be so easy.I absolutely adored this second chance romance and debut novel by Macy Beckett. Everything about it was fantastically perfect. You have entertaining characters, an amusing yet touching story and a satisfying happily ever after. This novel lacked for nothing and gives readers everything they could possibly want in a romance and more. SULTRY WITH A TWIST easily conveys that small town quirkiness that you will fall in love with and adore. The characters and setting also give way to many hilarious moments with the novel that are ‘laugh out loud' funny.June was the typical small town girl. Being born and raised in Sultry, she eventually found herself desperate to get away. When she finally does, she becomes ecstatic, thinking she'll never have to go back. Yet when she finally does, she starts to remember everything she loved best. She was always in control of a situation, but always ready to accept the situation and go with the flow. I enjoyed reading about the character that was confident outside of Sultry, yet hesitant and uncertain whenever she was there. She was so absolute and determined when it came to her feelings for Luke. I admired how her character gave her all towards everything she set out to accomplish...including capturing Luke's heart.Luke was such a great down-to-earth hero. He had such a great heart, but was scared to risk falling in love. His insecurities showed you that he really was a tortured soul and it made you love his character even more. What was even more touching was how he took care of everyone in this small town. This gentle nature was present in everything he did, day in and day out. Of course, his concern extended to June. The way he would try to care and protect her was absolutely charming. Luke really tried to portray a tough exterior, but Ms Beckett just delivered so many perfect scenes that gave you little glimpses of his fun loving and sensitive side. He was completely captivating and consumed a large part of my attention throughout the novel. The secondary characters in this novel provide so much fun and entertainment that you will certainly miss them when this story is through. I look forward to more of their witty remarks and colorful conversations in future installments. These characters, especially June's Grandmother and Luke's best friend, add so much to the world Ms Beckett creates and really encourages that small town feel.SULTRY WITH A TWIST is such a fun novel that I never wanted it to end. I put the book down once and the next time I picked it up, I stayed up well into the night to finish it. The engaging writing and stunning characters blind you from focusing on anything else but Luke and June's romance. Ms Beckett does a fabulous job of describing the passion between Luke and June. While there is plenty of humor and fun, you still can find plenty of emotional depth. The protagonists have to face their dark pasts and overcome a few obstacles along the way, so their journey isn't all fun and games. The author easily weaves in their past, giving you details along the way that explain their connection yet still leaving enough mystery to keep the story interesting. The final conclusion though is that Macy Beckett's opening novel in the Sultry Springs series is a winner! SULTRY WITH A TWIST is one of the best contemporary romances I've ever read. I absolutely loved it!Lisa Jo @ The Romance Reviews

Reviewed on: http://readyourwrites.blogspot.comGenerally in every book you will find a word, phrase or sentence which sums the book up. For Sultry with a Twist it is, "Love isn't a feeling, it's a choice, an action, a show of goodwill. It's about serving our brother, listening to him and supporting him without benefit to ourselves. It's believing the best about someone who's wronged us. And love never quits, never abandons in a time of need..."Sultry with a Twist is the debut novel from romance author Macy Beckett. When I think of this book, so many different thoughts come to mind. You have a little religion, you have some steamy love scenes, and some funny, "I can't believe that just happened" moments. Sultry with a Twist was not what I expected and for that I'm glad. I can't wait for the second book to come out. But wait, I don't wanna get ahead of myself.I've seen the letters "HEA" going around a lot. I had no idea what they stood for. HEA means Happily Ever After. This book is definitely that and then some.June (wait until you hear her whole name) Augustine and Luke Gallagher grew up together. Due to sad circumstances which happened in their young lives, both June and Luke were raised by Prudence Foster, June's maternal grandmother. Prudence a six-foot-tall pillar of fortitude is VERY religious and ruled her house with a wooden spoon. Because she was so strict, she ran them both off the day they graduated from high school, only to regret her actions and attempt to rectify them years later. Some people say that you never forget your first love. In both June and Luke's case, this is true. June has loved Luke since they were kids. Luke has always felt unworthy of anyone's love. He's a good man who just doesn't see himself the way others do.June is really sweet, loving and caring. She's also an accident waiting to happen, some funny and some not so funny. It's one of those accidents that forces Luke to realize his feelings for her. And it's June's unselfish act that finally makes Luke realize that she truly loves him and that he's wasted the last ten years of his life. I can't tell if Grammy "Pru" totally orchestrated the two getting together or not, but she definitely knew what was going on, and looked the other way several times. There's also Luke's best friend of almost nine years, the lovable Trey Lewis who never agrees with him.The worst part about the Sultry Spring series is having to wait five months for Trey's story to be told in A Shot of Sultry. I really like this book and I can't wait to return to Sultry Springs, Texas to see what happens next.I received this book from NetGalley, in exchanged for my un-biased review.

I think that I have just found myself a new, favorite author.I really loved this book and had a hard time putting it down once I started it. I loved June and Luke’s relationship from the very beginning. It's been nine years since either has seen or spoken to one another, he was her first and she had loved him since they were kids. Luke ran when she dropped the “L” word after making love to her by the pond after graduation and she never got over that. When she is forced to return home to face a bogus bench warrant, she discovers her best friend and first love, Luke Gallagher, is back in town and the man she must report to for her community service. Despite how things were left the last time they saw each other, she wants to get things back on track and to show Luke how to love. The progression of their relationship was at a natural pace and it helped that we were shown pieces of their past, because it made you understand them better and showed you how much they meant to each other. Neither Luke nor June had it easy growing up or in life. His mom left him behind and she lost her parents at an early age. Luke thinks that he isn't worth June’s love, because he thinks that he has nothing to offer her in life. Luke is such a good man, always willing to give someone a second chance, because someone did that for him. I loved that June didn't give up on him and it took her giving away her dream, just so that he could have his dream, which was buying his family’s land. Luke couldn’t believe that she would do that for him and didn’t understand why UNTIL it hit him. She really did love him and would do anything for him. When the moment comes that Luke finally gives in to his feelings for June it is wonderful. You can almost feel their love for each other coming off of the pages and sometimes it’s like you are right there sharing it with them. I loved how the book showed you there happy ending and a glimpse into their wedding, because so many books leave that happy ending off.Now that I have that out…. I CAN’T wait to read A Shot of Sultry, which is Trey’s story.
