The third installment of The Illumine Series. Captured, imprisoned, and left to burn. You know what they say- where there's smoke there's fire...For the last two weeks, Essallie Hanley has been a prisoner, in more ways than one. Held hostage by the Queen, she is forced to endure the mind-numbing pain tearing her body- and soul -apart, killing her with every tick of the clock. It seems all hope is lost, until one chance moment gives Essallie a name, Rinae Decante, the final person needed for the Queen to unveil her master plan to end Essallie. Armed with this name, and with the help of Ari and Kayden, Essallie breaks free from her captivity and launches in a search for this mystery girl. But their search doesn't go as smoothly as planned, and the three soon find themselves fighting against an impenetrable course of fate aimed to destroy them all from the inside out. When Essallie falls victim to her altering soul, they all begin to wonder of there's any chance at all to save themselves from the burning effects of their actions. Love, lies, and betrayal. No one is safe from the undoing of secrets surrounding EssallieMY REVIEW:I have been waiting for this book forever, or it just feels like it was forever. Either way I loved it, this is the first series that's paranormal I have loved since Vampire Academy. I was left speechless after I finished it. I read Riven much like the other two, within hours I was done, and left yerning for the next installment. I didn't know what to do with myself, the author hits you with a bomb at the end leaving you feeling empty. It was something I waited so long for, it confused me and I wanted to crawl into a ball and cry myself to sleep. I'd say I was playing, but in truth this novel had me on edge the whole time I was reading it. It had so much action, it was like watching a very well made movie. It made all my fantasies of Kayden and made me want him even more..swoon!This book left me wanted more and I can't wait till book four comes out. Its hard for me to write a review for this. I loved everything about this novel, from the moment you open the book to the moment you close it, it had you engaged really thinking you are fighting to stay alive.Alivia Anders words flowed beautifully, every word had my mind racing to figure out what was going to happpen next. And she put the right amount of humor in it to make you laugh. It was the passion I was waiting for, it was teasing me like a tickle in the back of my throat. I wanted more, and this installment gave me a glimmer of home. Alivia Anders was teasing me with a lollipop and in the end she let me have a little taste. Then she took it from me and made me cry like a sobbing child.I have no idea why I have fallen for a demon who munches on flesh, but I do. I didn't think it was possible for anyone to replace the love I have for Will in Infernal Devices, yet Kayden has stolen my heart. The world the author has created is brilliant, and if you love paranormal like me then this is a must read. There are vampires, angels, demons, fairies, mermaids, and anything else you can think of. LOVED this novel like the others. It has mind-blowing action, love and all the right elements. It moves fast and left no stone untured. It has a very hateful and monsterous villian, someone who readers will no doubt dislike with a passion. There is even a twisted love triangle that is to die for. Question is who will you choose? I give this book five stars!QUOTES:In that moment, all I wanted was to not feel alone. All I wanted was him. My lips crashed against his, feeling his petal soft lips melt against mine as I dug my hands into his hair. He pressed his hands against the small of my back , crushing his chest against mine. My hands moved from his hair, sliding over his cheeks and running along the back of his neck. Kayden Trailed his lips along my neck, butterfly kisses wondering ast my collarbone to the top of my chest. I flung a hand out along the bookcase, clinging to the wood as my legs buckled beneath me. If this was the way to die, I would be glad to end it all right here and there.

Ok, well, I am Shocked to the core at this ending! I was under the impression this was a trilogy, not sure where I got that idea, but I will say I was shocked when the cliffhanger hit and there was no more pages! It was a total surprise to me. I loved this book so much. It was such an edge of your seat read. Here is a swoon worthy scene I wanted to share (except I sure wish it was Ali instead of Kayden in it, as I still can’t get past his true demon form, lol Yuck)In that moment, all I wanted was to not feel alone. All I wanted was him. My lips crashed against his, feeling his petal soft lips melt against mine as I dug my hands into his hair. He pressed his hands against the small of my back, crushing his chest against mine. My hands moved from his hair, sliding over his cheeks and running along the back of his neck. Kayden trailed his lips along my neck, butterfly kisses wandering past my collarbone to the top of my chest. I flung a hand out along the bookcase, clinging to the wood as my legs buckled beneath me.As you can see, its swoon worthy for sure.I did start to warm up toward Kayden, as he does truly care for Essallie, but I do think she should be with Ali, as he is a Nephilim like her, but we wont know how it all turns out until the 4th book is out. I did see there is a novella, between this and the last book, #4. But its told about another 3rd Nephilim that we only first see in this book. Still should be interesting, and be a good source of info on her, as she will more than likely be a big part of the final book. (at least I think it’s the final book, but not sure, as I seen a 4.5 novella listed for the future, so who knows)I won’t say a lot about this, as its packed full of so much, and there is so many twists and turns and stuff you won’t see coming. Its always best to not know much going in, so to get the full enjoyment from this book.I will stop with this cute, but funny teaser , Rinae, is the 3rd Nephilim, just fyi.“Rinae, don’t say anything,” the olive-skinned boy, Tegen, hissed under his breath. “It’s a trick.” I didn’t fight the eyeroll. “Oh yes, because two Nephilim coming to join with you is a dirty, dirty trick. Why don’t you shut it, unless your life aspiration was to resemble a badly burned barbecue. Then by all means, let those lips flap away.” Kayden stared at me, slack-jawed. “So not fair, you’re only supposed to insult me like that.”Its written very well, brilliant. I am a true fan, and am eagerly waiting book 4! Can’t wait to see how this all ends. 5 out of 5 big stars. You can come by my post that was for the book tour, to read up on the other books as well as more on this one if you want. This is the third in this series and one that will hold your attention the entire time. Ms. Anders allows you to have all kinds of emotions in this third book and if you think you have it all figured out, you better guess again. Ms. Anders is one that loves to leave you hanging on for dear life while you try to clear the water out of your lungs and see thru the dark smoke. She loves playing with her readers as she knows many of us will be stalking her for the next in the series. As I refuse to give any spoilers, she brings into our world Ebony. One you might think you love, but want to choke. Your heart will do flips between the passion that she feels for Kayden and the love that aches in Ari for her. She’s trying to live and has been captured but with the help of true friends and love, can she survive this attack that has been placed in front of her? Be prepared to laugh as Ms. Anders has that personality that we all have come to love, cry at certain scenes, and fight with more than you ever imagined you had in yourself. Great story, Ms. Anders. Now, give us the next book pretty please.

Essie is an amazing character who you just have to root for!! Avi is just a fabulous sweet yummy man and then you have Kayden who is the bad demon who every girl wants. Riven the third book in the Illumine series did not disappoint. The life of the most powerfull nephalim in centuries is hard enough, add to that being only a teenager.Being hunter by the Queen herself,Being consumed inside by her own blood that is used to torture and kill, well you need to read it, I would highly recommend you do.It is a stunning series and this book is evidence that authors are able to outdo themselves.I give it a four star since the formatting of the book on Kindle was a bit wonky andit served to distract me, I am not sure if this formatting is the same on other formats though.WaAr

This is the third installment of the Illumine Series. I have been eagerly awaiting it's release! Needless to say, I absolutely LOVED it!Essallie Hanley is a fantastic character. She is part Nephilim (half human, half angel), who has been hunted by the Queen for her blood. Having been captured, she is faced with the deadly consequences of the Queen's plan. Will she be strong enough to survive?Ari is also a fantastic character. He is also a Nephilim. He has his own secrets, but I think he is definitely one of the good guys. He has a big heart, and possibly a crush on Essallie, but she has eyes for only one man.Kayden *SIGH* is a demon, summoned by Essallie's ex to kill her. However, he has his reasons for not doing so. Every time he touches Essallie, he burns, literally. When those two get together, sparks fly! This book takes up roughly where the previous book ended. I absolutely couldn't put it down! I loved the interaction between all the characters. I don't know why I have fallen for Kayden, since he's a flesh eating demon, but there is something about him that just makes me love him! He's just so sexy! Ari's not bad either, but Kayden is something else! Why is it all the best ones are book characters? This is a fast paced story that has a few twists that kept me on the edge of my seat! There is a lot of action and a major twist right at the end that completely surprised me! I hate it when authors leave you on the edge with cliffhangers, because they completely frustrate me! But I can tell you that it's BIG and left me completely stunned! I am now DYING to find out what surprises the author will come up with in the next book!Alivia Anders has written another no-holds-barred book that has captured my attention. I love her writing style. It is fast paced, but extremely fluid. As she is already on my favourite authors list, I cannot add her again, but I will certainly read any other books she writes in the future. I highly recommend this book (and series) if you love your YA Paranormal Romance full of angels, demons, mermaids (sorry, Sirens!) and other paranormal beings. - Lynn Worton

Riven by Alivia AndersPrint Length: 286 pagesPublisher: Anders, Alivia; 1 edition (December 7, 2012)Sold by: Amazon Digital Services, Inc. I bought this book on Amazon.Cover Art~ I adore the covers of all the authors books, but this by far is my favorite. I love the color contrast she has on it. The cover itself begs me to delve into the hidden pages and read it and find out what the cover represents. My Review~The author delivers an amazing sequel to the on growing series about Essie. I truly love the unique story line and the characters. My favorite character is Kayden! I love the bad boy!! I felt as though I was there in the story with them. I thoroughly enjoyed this awesome read. I hope that the next book in the series will be out very soon! The writing, descriptions, and the characters are to die for and better yet their interactions with each other make it that much more appealing. In this book many emotions go through it such as love, hope, loss, sadness, despair, anger, and guilt. We also see and meet new characters through this journey that I can't wait to find out more about. WHAT AN ENDING??!!! I was thinking WTH??!! NO!!! The ending will stay with you and you will be begging the author to hurry up and finish writing the next book. This is a super fast paced read.Amazon Book Description~For the last two weeks, Essallie Hanley has been a prisoner, in more ways than one. After reading Illumine and Obumbrate I absolutely HAD to read Riven to see what happened next. This series will take you on a roller-coaster of action, adventure, twists and turns that are just so unexpected. It is cliche' to say that its a fresh new take on the life of the Nephilim, but its simply true. And it's not over yet!Riven is the third book of the Illumine Series and absolutely did NOT disappoint in anyway possible. In fact, it very well may be the best one yet out of this series, but I would seriously suggest reading the other two books first though. When Essallie finds herself in a bit of a jam she decides to move foward with a new found strength to defeat all evil, no matter what it takes bringing her friends along with her to assure not only hers, but their safety as well. However, she's starting to have strange hillucenations and soon finds out that they are much more than she realized. She now has to fight to keep not only her body from dying, but also from losing her mind along the way. She finds new comrads along with more enemies that she never could've imagined. In the end she has a choices to make...live or die, keep fighting or give up, love or lose. As all the pieces beging to fall together what will she do? I can't wait to find out in book four what happens next. ~AC Wright (WaAr)~

*Warning: possible spoilers. Book 3 and they need to be read in order*The end of Essie's saga of finding out she's a half angel and she's still being tortured by the Queen of the paranormal realm, just b/c she wants Essie's blood for selfish reasons. While she does get help from the unlikely Ursula, she loses her, too. It seems no one wants Essie alive except Kayden - who broke her heart, and the other half angel, Ari. I did appreciate that Essie stands up to them both and doesn't let them treat her like a prize to be won. I didn't appreciate how she just so easily forgave Kayden for his attitude and behavior. I was never a fan of this character. I really enjoyed the fight scenes that seemed to take a lot of the book. I love a good fight scene, particularly where there's a strong female doing a lot of it. Essie does do the right thing and save Kayden's life, particularly when you find out why he's ...."attached" to her in a certain way. Essie has pretty much gained control over her power now, and she's grown up a lot.Her body does get possessed and there's a little cliffhanger, but everyone seems to be anxious to see how they can help her. Interesting to see where it goes...I do miss Abby though. I wish there was more of her in the book...

I received this book from the Author for an honest review. The third book in the Illumine Series is amazing. As we travel with Essallie into the depths of Lucretia's domain we witness her fight for survival when the odds are so not in her favor. She ends up trusting a darker image of herself that eventually will be placing her right back into a locked cell. Life is short and it is time for some good butt kicking Nephillium style with Ari as her sidekick. But what does one do when they are in love with the very thing wanting to destroy it? They rescue it of course! Which is what we find her doing with Kayden who has become more monster then demon. With twists and turns galore, this story takes us on a wild ride into a wonderland only fish can see where she learns of a fate that becomes another race for time. All I can say is I hope the Author writes fast as I am so wanting this story to continue now! Will not disappoint Illumine Series Readers... but will definitely leave you wanting more!

After reviewing the first and the second book, I don't think there's much left to say. After I finished the second book, Obumbrate, I already knew the third book will probably be just as good. It was, indeed. The love triangle, Ari-Essie-Kayden, gets even better. I liked Kayden a lot since Illumine, but in Riven his bad side was also shown. Turns out he's not as good as I thought. Ari is a great man, but something about him seems odd. Essie, just like always, has a strong attitude and pretends to be so strong and invincible. It's good in a way, but her tongue brings her trouble very often. Of course, Ari saves her every time, but not in the end. She can't be saved.I really hope Essie won't get saved by Kayden or Ari in the next book, it would be too predictable and unoriginal. Having her semi dead could create a great and interesting story.

I have been wanting to read this book for a long time, I just hadn't gotten around to reading it until now. There are editing issues with this book, but do not let that put you off the story. The story is fast paced and starts pretty much where the last book ended. Essalie is being held hostage by the Queen and has taken to talking to herself.Of course she escapes but the Queen will stop at nothing to get Essalie back. There are new characters thrown into the mix, here and there.Overall this book is a great addition to the series, I just wonder how long until the next book is release because it leaves on a cliffhanger.

"Riven" by Alivia Anders is the third instalment of her Illumine Series and is so far my favourite. After the first two books the character Essallie, half human and half angel, is rescued from captivity by Ari but decides instead of fleeing to stay and find Kayden, a demon who has been protecting her in the last book. Still hunted by the bloodlusting Queen Essallie begins to take charge of her fate. Anders introduces no characters and creatures to the mix, including Siren Arielle, and moves with fast pace through this action packed thriller.Of the three this is by far the most enjoyable novel. It is well written and a great read.

I'm having fun reading thisNicely developed storyline of the damsel in distress torn between two loves of very different natures. The evil bad boy who might be good and the good angel who doesn't seem as good as he should be. It's an interesting storyline that keeps me wondering & that's too few too far in between for stories nowadays. The only thing dispiriting and frankly unacceptable is the number of ridiculous typos in the Kindle books lately. I keep reporting the errors but I'm getting tired of reporting the errors but it will be since I have to use the Kindle itself to do so. They should be ashamed of having so many mistakes in their product.

https://celebrityreaders.wordpress.co...Not ratedI DNF’d this book at 30 percent. I just couldn’t get into it. It felt like work and this is my pleasure activity so I gave up. I might try to go back and read it again because after the first two I had certain expectations for this book. I want to try and let those go before returning to this one. Might is the key word in that sentence.

i liked the idea and the characters but the plot didnt quite work very well, there wasnt much depth. i still enjoyed the series a lot but each book was so...short. i just smashed them all out in a day and the endings were just massive cliffhangers and not cliffhangers that you like it was more of a 'wait, is that the end? that wasnt even a full book, we were in the middle of a scene!'looking forward to reading the next instalment in the series.
