Horse Heroes Reviews
111 pages; Great non-fiction companion to the Magic Tree House series. I learned a lot about horses and history. Highly recommended for Gr. 3-5.
I love horses so this book was very interesting for me. I learned about the different kinds of horses and what they are sometimes used for. This book is not a story book. Each chapter is about different things with horses. For example: Horse Behavior, History of Horses, Warhorses, Famous Horses, etc.... The book does a very good job of explaining different things about horses in each chapter.Jack and Annie are the main characters in the Magic Tree House books. They take turns telling the facts about the horses in the book. The setting would be on farms or ranches where the horses live.I would recommend this book to boys and girls who are young readers so they can learn about horses. It would also be good for middle school students to learn more about horses.
Informational Nonfiction Copyright: 2013Appeal: Lower Grade StudentsI chose this book because it gives lots of facts about horses. It includes many details accompanied by pictures and diagrams. The author has many fun fictional books, and she writes the nonfiction accompanying books to give more depth to her stories.Twin Text: Stallions by Starlight by Mary Pope Osborne (fiction)This is a fun adventure book that has history and facts mixed in. As the title suggests, a black stallion is a key ingredient in the story. By writing this pair of books, the author is able to use the fantasy of the fiction book to inspire additional fact-finding from the nonfiction book on the same topic.
Very accurate information but wish the authors included information about English and Western riding. This book is about Horse Heroes and focuses more on horses in general and famous horses, for that purpose, the authors did a great job with presenting information.
Surprisingly comprehensive. This book is actually a perfect pint-sized introduction to horses and their relationship to humans.
Horses weighs up to 1,200 pounds.
