This is the romantic conclusion to the Soul Series by Julia Rachel Barrett. It's romantic, sexy, with a fascinating portrait of life on a ranch, and an absolutely delicious cowboy hero I want to lasso up and take home with me. I really like how Barrett incorporates paranormal elements into a reality-based contemporary story, and it flows seamlessly and believably. I don't think this is a stand-alone novel; you really need to read the first two in the series to see how all the characters fit together.Grade: A (I cried at the end...hee hee!)

(Stay (The Soul Series) at Amazon)It was a pleasure to read Julia's latest entry in this paranormal romance series involving humans and god-like beings who come to earth and fall in love. I admit to friendship bias, but I can honestly say this is Julia's best work. She has grown and progressed as a writer and STAY shows it. Every line of dialogue rings true. Julia is a real "Cowgirl" who goes on cattle drives so she knows whereof she writes. Her work, even her earlier work, has a lot of heart. "Story" is at the root of her writing. Information dumping is virtually non-existent, and her descriptive writing has surged forward. There are some points where I wanted to slap the male love interest upside the head for density, thinking, "just get over it already!" In the end, I could well imagine his long and muscular frame on a big horse. Lucas is the cowboy every adolescent girl (of my era anyway) wanted to ride off into the sunset with. Here's a great quote I got off Julia's website:He laughed. “It worked out fine. She’d always dreamed of marrying a cowboy.” “Every little girl dreams of marrying a cowboy,” she said. Lucas teased her. “I thought every little girl dreamed of riding a horse.” “Well, why do you think we want to marry cowboys?” www.juliarachelbarrett.netSo there's humor, angst, pathos, danger and a little loving too. Julia writes intimacy nicely. The book has one very emotional, pregnant doctor who insists Lucas is someone else. An important theme is learning to give the space someone needs to come to grips with change and understand a fluid concept of time. And, it is the third book. It's best read with at least IN THE FLESH, but throw in INCORPOREAL for the complete set. It's not a long book so I am not going to go on and on reviewing it. The upshot is that STAY is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I read Julia Barrett's Soul Series (INCORPOREAL, IN THE FLESH, STAY) over the span of a weekend and was hooked from the beginning. All three novels kept me turning electronic pages well past my bedtime, as I'm often known to do when I come across an engaging story.Like I've stated in my reviews of the first two books in this series, I read for escape. I have no trouble suspending my disbelief in order to have a fun ride inside someone else's head. As a paranormal romance, The Soul Series absolutely requires suspension of disbelief. (Nathan, the hero/male lead in INCORPOREAL is a ghost. IN THE FLESH's hero, Ze'ev or 'Wolf,' first falls from the sky as a twelve-foot-tall warrior clad in gold armor. These men, of course, are muscle-bound, swoon-worthy, fiercely protective, and all around terrific guys.) Also, if you're not enamored of the "lovers-feeling-inexplicably-drawn-to-one-another-and-destined-to-become-one-because-they-are-soul-mates" type of romance, then this might not be the book for you. Personally, that's one of the things I really liked about this series.[I will disclose here, for the record, that I came across Julia Barrett via Twitter and am also an author. I do not, however, know Ms. Barrett personally, nor have I ever interacted with her socially. I enjoy reading her blog and decided to give her books a try. This is my unbiased review.]The third book in the Soul Series, STAY, continues the story of Sydney Blake, a determined, strongly-independent doctor who also happens to be a Montana cattle rancher. (The ranch is owned by her parents, who are out of the picture living in Arizona for the duration of this story. Sydney and several ranch hands keep things running.) I think this book would be pretty confusing and not nearly as enjoyable without reading the prior book in the series, IN THE FLESH. (You could probably get away with not reading the first book, INCORPOREAL, and not have a problem, however.)Taken together, IN THE FLESH and STAY (books II and III of The Soul Series) have essentially the same storyline as INCORPOREAL (book I) but with different characters and circumstances. I suppose some readers might find this disappointing, but I did not. I loved all of the characters in the second two books, particularly Cass, and enjoyed getting to know them over the course of the two stories, even though the very basic elements of the plot were familiar. An epilogue at the end of the third book brings the four principal characters together, rounding off all three stories in a very satisfying way. I thoroughly enjoyed this sexy, sweet, paranormal series and am now curious about Barrett's other books.

Before I Read The Novel:The description.. wtf!? I'm so confused.. twins? In The Novel:Fourteen pages into it, I'm still confused and can't grasp why the woman wouldn't care about her baby and overall health more. I seriously want to punch her.Side comments: (as I'm reading the novel)- Heroine is a retard.- Hero has brain damage?- An Archangel, are we really going there? In The Novel:I'm still kind of confused but not. The novel was sweet in some ways but a pile of shit in others.SUCKAGE!:My brain hurts after reading this. It sucks!

I loved this story, as it is the continuation of Wolf and Sydney's story from In the Flesh. I picked this short story up as part of The Soul Series collection. Wolf, or Lukas as he goes by now, is struggling with his dual identity. Their story also bisects that of Sara and Nathan from the other books in the series. This story was wrapped up quite nicely I. The end, but I do hope to see more from this series. I would recommend this author to others.

It could have been great but I just didn't get it. I know I'd strayed reading in medias res, but I should have been able to pick on the myths but I couldn't get in it. Maybe, I'll go back and start from the beginning.

Wasn't really my thing. I was confused at the beginning, and only became slightly less so after reading it a second time. Maybe there was another book at the first that i didn't get. In that case completely disregard this. A little bit more of the backstory would have been greatly appreciated

Great short story. Can be read as a stand alone. Description of the book is accurate. This is the 3rd book in the series. Will reread this book after I read the others.

A great book. It was book number 3 in the series, I had not read the other 2, but if found that it was not necessary. Mystery, love and endurance. Loved it from start to finish. Great writing.
