This book has its share of surprises. In some ways it is written in the tradition of swords and sorcery, but there are no heroes here. Just an man past his prime, once a leader, now a drunk, with too many ugly things in his past. His wife, who just wants things to be normal for her daughter in ways they weren't for her, their daughter and their son. A son given up for dead a long time ago.Everyone does what they need to do, and it's not always pretty.

Thank goodness that was a free book. The plot had something going for it in a couple places, but most of the time it was simply an example of why some books don't get published by people other than their authors.

This was alright. I mostly liked it because of the way magic worked, it reminded me of the Dark Sun books I used to read.
