La Mission de Sennar Reviews

This and my other reviews can be found at Amethyst BookwyrmThanks to Netgalley and Open Road Integrated Media for giving me this book to review.Sennar has been sent on a mission to the underworld to get aid for the war, but it is an almost impossible mission as nobody knows how to get there, and how they feel about the overworlders. Nihal is completing her training to become one of the Dragon Knights with the help of her mentor Ido, and she is getting more accepted and gaining more responsibilities. With past secrets being revealed, Nihal is struggling with dealing with her desire for revenge, and her mysterious past may be the key to winning the war.Sennar’s Mission is the enjoyable sequel to Nihal of the Land of the Wind, which is full of action, fantasy adventure and a developing romance. That being said it definitely felt like a middle book, as it was slower than the last book, and some chapters felt like filler.Nihal annoyed me less in this book as she seems to have grown up and has become less spoiled, she is a fierce and brave character who is protective of those she cares about. I like Sennar as we get to know him better than we did in the last book, he is really kind, wants to help people and is willing to do anything to stop the war even if it puts him in serious danger. While I enjoyed this book, it did feel like it was developing the story for the next book, that being said, I am still looking forward to reading it. I would recommend Sennar’s Mission to fans of the first book in the Chronicles of the Overworld, Nihal of the Land of the Wind.

Sennar’s Mission by Licia TroisiSecond book in the Chronicles of the Overworld Trilogy4.5 starsSennar’s Mission picks right up where Nihal of the Wind left off and follows the dual perspective of Nihal and her best friend, Sennar. I loved Nihal’s story that was introduced in the first novel and I was really curious to see where Sennar’s own mission would take this story. The story continues to follow Nihal in the training camps as she prepares to go into battle and Sennar’s mission focuses on a voyage into the Underworld to gain allies from a world forgotten. The story itself is more confident in itself than the first novel and I believe that’s because Troisi has established an in-depth fantasy world that has already been fleshed out. Since the world has been established this novel focuses more on the story instead of the buildup and explanation of why things are occurring. Troisi executes a very well-thought out fantasy world with a complex plot and I found the writing to be stronger than the previous novel. However, I didn’t find the story as captivating and I’m not sure if it’s because it was dual POV, but it could have been that. I love dual PoV stories, but Nihal was a singular focus in the previous novel and to constantly leave one storyline to skip to another was a little jarring, especially since Troisi had to establish Sennar’s character PoV. The fantasy setting itself is so beautiful and Troisi creates wonderful concepts that come to life. There were so many new concepts that were wonderfully executed and made me excited about what I was reading.Whimsical Writing Scale: 4.75“But in your heart lies a monster waiting to rouse itself.”The main female character is Nihal. I love Nihal. Her character has changed so much over the course of two novels and it is remarkable to see how becoming a young teen to a warrior. There are times when Nihal continues to be childish about certain things. It gets a little frustrating and slightly annoying, but she always ends up learning and moving towards change within herself.Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 4.25The main male character is Sennar. I love Sennar. I think I love Sennar much more now because of his PoV. I also continue to ship Sennar and Nihal like there is no tomorrow and I want them to be a thing. His story is very compelling and he has such strong values that make him such an admirable character.Swoon Worthy Scale: 4.25The Villain- My Lord! Towards the end the Tyrant does something that is truly horrifying and it really made this story intense. This is no fake villain. This guy is ruthless.Villain Scale: 5Laio is back and I love him so much. Ido is also a great mentor and I will be crushed if he dies in the last novel. He’s such a good friend to Nihal and he’s a pure soul. There are also so many new characters introduced and things get intense. People lie and play tricks. It becomes really intense.Character Scale: 4The ending was a bit drawn out, but I love the story and the directions that this trilogy has taken. I believe the last novel will be a strong one and I look forward to checking it out! I highly recommend this series if you are a fan of fantasy and especially if you are interested in translated fantasy from other countries because I think this series does a great job of showcasing Italian fantasy and its differences and similarities to Western fantasy.Plotastic Scale: 4.75Cover Thoughts: I love the cover. The artwork is stunning.Thank you, Netgalley and Open Road Media, for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.Reviews of Other Books in this Trilogy:1. Sennar's Mission was a lot darker than the first book in this series, which is understandable given that the Tyrant is quickly gaining control of the Free Lands. We see Sennar's mission to the underworld, where he tries to gather reinforcements for the war. On the other hand, Nihal is out on the front of the battle, fighting against the enemy with her dragon and her tutor beside her.We learn more about Nihal's past and her internal struggle with wanting revenge for her people, the elves, who were massacred by the Tyrant. There is no doubt that Nihal is a heroine, and a strong warrior, but I enjoyed learning how she struggles with fighting for right against fighting for revenge. There are times when the darkness of killing is about to consume her but somehow she, or someone close to her, always pulls her out. From the ending I can tell that the journey ahead will be difficult for Nihal, but at the same time I do hope Sennar will accompany her because the story always reads so much better when they are together! This book was harder to get into than the first, and I think it was probably because Nihal's journey is more interesting to read than Sennar's, but once I was into it the story was addictive.Favourite Quotes:“Running away accomplishes nothing, Laio,” Nihal said quietly. “Your problems will follow you to the edge of the earth.”“Life is short, and you only get one. To waste it for the sake of someone else makes no sense at all. I do only the things I want to do. I want to feel joy, pain, passion, despair...everything. Because I know that when death comes to carry me off, the life I’ve lived will be the only thing I have.”“you’ve come to a turning point in your search for the truth, Nihal. But the truth is a dreadful gift.”“...One day this will all be over, Nihal.”“I don’t know if I believe that anymore,” she muttered.“But you must, Nihal. Hope is the only thing we have left.”

Title: Sennar's MissionAuthor: Licia TroisiAge Group: Teen/Young AdultGenre: High FantasySeries: Chronicles of the Overworld, book twoStar Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsThis book was given to me by the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.I love high fantasy novels--recently, I've discovered that. The appeal of them, for me, is their scope, their ability to make it seem like a whole new world is being shown through them. And Sennar's Mission didn't disappoint me. It picks up where Nihal of the Land of the Wind left off, with Sennar leaving to go to the Underworld, and Nihal trying to make her own way as a stronger soldier, avenging the loss of her people. And for the most part, I really enjoyed it; both Sennar and Nihal grew as characters, and Laio and Ido, from the previous book, make appearances and are also deeply fleshed out, and the world-building was wonderful, but something about this installment in the series just left me yearning. Though it was full of action, and emotion, and wonder, something about it, just really fell short. Regardless, though, I look forward to the next installment in the series. The bottom line: This next installment was good, but it wasn't fantastic. Next on deck: Once Upon a Time: A Short History of Fairy Tale by Marina Warner!

A découvrir.

Licia Troisi geniale come sempre.

I didn't think this book was as good as the first one in the series. A lot more action was going on in both the beginning and end of this book, but the one thing that made me annoyed was tat between those two there were at least 100 FILLER PAGES! It was so boring and nothing happened at all around those pages. I rated Sennar's Mission 3 stars because near the end it does get a lot more exciting and I did like it. Just not as much as the first book, which I adored. I also feel like both book one and two were kind of a prologue to the third and final novel in the series because (SPOILER ALERT. Don't continue reading if you haven't finished book two) in the end Nihal just goes on this mission to collect these stones.. which is basically the mission that the whole stories was building up to.

More of 2.5. This book is way better than the first one. This series has a lot of potential. The storyline/plot is interesting and drawn together quite nicely. The writing could be better - it's very simple but that's not the issue. The issue is the main character. Nihal is annoying. Period. She is not the least bit likable and it's hard for me to get through the books without putting them down in frustration. The author tries to make us sympathize with her but her arrogant, childish behavior is hard to digest. I'm debating whether to get the next book in the series. I'm curious to see what happens but not looking forward to reading about a spoiled brat who can't control her temper.

Příběh Nihal a Sennara pokračuje.
