Soul Dreams Reviews
Soul Dreams is an exotic journey about two strangers destined to rediscover romance. I was caught completely unaware by the unique way the author allowed this story to unfold. The intimate relationship that develops between Blake and Nina is a mixture of pleasant and exciting feelings, such as anticipation, adventure, amorousness and compassion. Their history with past relationships has made each reluctant to risk their heart again. Both have suffered enough emotional anguish; not to mention Blake’s physical reminders. Although this book is 100% character centric, I still felt that nothing was neglected – you may be asking how that is possible…well – this story provides both emotional as well as intellectual rewards that simply don’t require anything more than the main characters HEA. Originally posted at: http://www.longandshortreviews.com/bo...Many people suffer heartbreak before finding their true love. But is there a point where past damage is too great to overcome?Nina Foster moved to Freewill five years ago, after fleeing devastation. Having one engagement broken, only to fall in love with a man who betrayed her, she looked to start new in a place where no one knew her and she could find solitude. She purchased the town bookstore and was well on her way to building a happy life…or was she?Enter Blake Massie. The mysterious man Nina knows only as a name on a computer screen. He lives only a mile from her house, yet no one knows anything about him. Never appearing in public, Blake lives with an old family friend and caretaker, imprisoned by fear of how others would perceive him. Though his actions were heroic, Blake was forever disfigured by fire, and in the two years since, has hidden himself away from everything and everyone…until he saw Nina’s picture on her website. This was a lovely tale of survival and redemption. Both Nina and Blake were damaged in their own ways, and each had sworn off the rest of the world. But, a combination of fate and the undeniable need for companionship drew them together. Though Nina had vowed to never be taken in by a man again, she feels herself waning the more she gets to know this new mystery man. Blake, meanwhile, sheds all his insecurities and self-doubt while hiding behind his computer monitor – able to show his true self without the fear of his appearance. There was a need to suspend reality a little to believe Nina would visit Blake daily without consummation, much less seeing him with her own eyes, but the culmination of their relationship was well worth the long build up. When the two finally opened up fully, I read the final pages with a smile on my face – and that’s exactly what I look for in a great story.Desiree Holt doesn’t disappoint with this one. This is romance at its best – rugged, but damaged hero teamed with the disillusioned and heartbroken heroine. Want a classic romance? This is it.
Set in the same town as Dark Secrets this books in a cross between beauty and the beast and dream lover. Five years ago Nina Foster got her heart broken for the last time. She packed up and moved and ended up in a little Wyoming town and bought a book store. She has sworn off relationships and lives a very isolated life outside the store. Two years ago Texas rancher Blake Massie tried to save animals that were caught in a huge barn fire. He ended up getting trapped and burned over a large part of his body. He didn't want to be a burden to his family so he locked himself away in a house in a small town in Wyoming. His caretaker is one is his fathers old ranch hands. Nina and Blake do not meet in person for much of the book. They communicate via instant messaging which started when he started ordering books from her online and wanted her to deliver them to his house. They also meet during their dreams. When they both do research they see its an old Indian belief that two soul mates meet first in there dreams before meeting in person. Blake wants Nina in the worst way but just cant allow her to see him for fear of what she will think so he comes up with a way around this by on all of there dates at his house she is blindfolded. Nina agrees and the two are smoking in their desires for each other but neither is being honest about the tragedies that have deeply effected them. It was good to see how Hawk and Riley were doing from the first book. They are really the only friends Nina has allowed herself to have. The ending was pretty rushed but it at least had a happy ending for all.
Soul DreamsThis book is about Nina Foster and Blake Massie, two people who have troublesome pasts which has made them very wary of relationships. Tina owns a book store and Blake orders online but likes personal delivery so he can catch glimpses of Tina from an upstairs window. The story tells of how they find their own happy ever afters.I had some trouble categorising this book as it is slightly too sexy for a romance and not sexy enough for erotica and has a tiny smidgen of the supernatural. The story is interesting and well written although I did feel it was the sequel to something and whilst you didn't need to have read what came before I do like to read things in order (OCD what can I say lol) All in all it is OK but contains several uses of an unfortunate word for female genitalia, now whilst I am not a prude I really didn't feel this word belonged and it kind of put me off the whole book.Overall I would give this 3 out of 5 stars rising to 3.5 if you are more amenable to certain words than I am!!Petra
Since Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite tropes, I was really looking forward to reading this book. Overall, it was a pretty good story, but not one I am going to reread. I loved Blake as a character and didn't mind his brooding and grumpy demeanor at all. My main problem was Nina: I felt she was too pushy and not particularly likeable. Despite my complaint, I'm not adverse to trying other books by this author.
EmotionalThis is a wonderful book that takes you through so many different emotions. You find yourself hoping things can work out for the characters. Will definitely be looking for more from this talented author.
