WHAT MY STARS MEAN:5 Stars--the book had a profound impact on me. It touched me on some special level and lingered with me long after I'd finished reading it. 4 Stars--I loved this book. If I don't own it, I will buy it so I can read it again and again.3 Stars--I enjoyed the book but may have had an issue or two with it.2 Stars--I had more than a few issues with it.1 Stars--I hated it.WHAT IT'S ABOUTEmma Alexander has been living in San Diego the past eight years building her career. She’s only been home once during that time. When she rushes home to deal with a family tragedy, she discovers small towns have long memories. Circumstances force her to deal with the reason she stayed away so long. When her promotion moves her north, fear of ruining their friendship tempers his desire to show her how he truly feels. Will he be able to profess his love for her or will her ex-fiancé beat him to the punch?MY TAKEI totally loved Jack. I sometimes wondered if Emma was in a total state of denial for a while there because it just seemed so obvious how he felt about her--and it's not like others couldn't see it. I could understand his hesitation to say anything for fear of ruining the friendship they'd had--and that he'd worked hard to maintain over the years. And Kyle, the ex-fiancé? Eight years is a long time to be hanging onto old feelings and not moving on. It's also a long time to feed the attitude that broke them up in the first place.Just a warning for my clean reads friends. This book is a little steamier than I normally read. There is a bedroom scene with some detail but it's far from erotica. Very far.

Melanie brought her ability to write a "true to life" fiction love story, that keeps you reading the entire time and you just cant put it down, to life yet once again! A family tragedy, an ex fiancee, a new job and life, a surprise relationship, and a best friend make this whole book come to life! I cried, smiled, laughed, and felt all of those emotions! Melanie just pulls you in with her love of writing and skill to express how her characters feel... you'll feel it too! Great job Ms. Macek!! :)

Emma and Jack have been friends for years. Jack has been in love with her from just about the beginning. We see these two go through many emotions...from loss to love, and have always remained friends. Not wanting to loose Emma, Jack finally puts all his cards on the table so so speak and prays for the best. This is a very nice book...a story of friends who become lovers at long last.

I enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end. It was full of real emotions, some suspense and best of all was a love story of two friends. The story is well written and flows smoothly. The story pulled you in and keeps your attention all the way to the end. It is a clean romance that has a little steamy love scene however it is not full of erotic scenes. I enjoyed the change of pace in reading a book that was not all full of the couple making out in almost every chapter. It had a great story line and did not keep you hanging at the end. There are two more books in this series that are just as good as this one. They all keep you wanting to read more from this amazing author. Melanie has become one of my favorite authors due to her writing style and great story lines!

4.5 Stars ~ I really enjoyed this story, it's sweet, unhurried pace and thoroughly developed characters. Emma and Jake were very real people, the in-and-out of their lives adding a sense of legitimacy that's often lacking in romantic fiction. I appreciated how Emma's past relationship with Jake was established without a lot of flashbacks or too much information too - it flowed, pulling the reader right in. My only wish for this book - more dialogue.I'm looking forward to book 2 and hope it gives me the same warm fuzzies When Love Waits did!
