I jumped into this book with extremely high expectations due to the outstanding ratings on Goodreads, so my rating may be a little swayed by my disappointment. I can't take away from the prose and imagery throughout the novel - it certainly would receive a 4 or 5 star for that - but the story wasn't grabbing. I kept pushing myself through this story thinking there was something I was missing which would reveal itself as I got further and further. In the end, I think I just didn't have enough connection personally to the religiousity, love at first site, and pretty much the entirety of the novel. I jumped into this book hoping to get more out of its setting in Pakistan and wanting it to spur a Pakistani/Indian book splurge where I read a ton of stories out of that area, but this wasn't the story to do it. That doesn't mean it's not a good book. It just wasn't a good book for me.

A beautifully written book. Deep and interesting, I found the prose quite compelling!! Wow!

This book was intense! Beautiful prose, amazing imagery and fantastical descriptions. I'll be parsing this one in my brain for some time.

A majestic and timeless piece of fiction written in majestic prose, almost poetic and never dull.
