Halloween: Delicious Tricks and Wicked Treats for Your Scariest Halloween Ever begins with a little historical perspective on this ghoulish holiday...rooted in ancient Celtic lore, through its evolution today as a kids' time of festivity, Stewart gives us lots of ideas for food, fun, and frolic. Especially enjoyable is the Irish story of Jack, a mischievous drunkard who by tricking the devil, eventually got him working overtime trapped (HA!) inside a giant squash (pumpkin) for all Halloweens to come! From carving elaborate pumpkins, to beyond-amazing make-up and costume ideas, and some yummy treats to boot, this 'how-to' book is chock full of wonderful ideas to conjure up every fall.

There are some really great design ideas in this book, ones to make your Halloween stand out. There are unique costume creations, party favors and cookies to share. Utilize some of the design templates of cats, ghosts and witches to put a spirited spin on your usual pictures and wall decorations, too.I especially enjoyed the Halloween candles and stencils used to create a festive flair on tablecloths, dresses and even napkins.

This book was surprisingly awesome. Sure there were plenty of the classic Martha "who has time for that?" projects, but in more then one case I had to admit the projects look cool/fun enough that I will probably make the time if I have to. For the most part projects tend toward a sort of Victorian aesthetic and are in many cases the sort of thing that with a bit of design tweaking could be a pretty project for any time of the year. This is actually a collection of the highest rated projects from past October issues of Martha Stewart Living so if you are a longtime subscriber there is not going to be anything new or exciting here. But for those of us who had not yet drunk the home made juniper-papaya Kool Aid out of the hand painted china this is a great resource.

One of my favorite Halloween books (I have 8!)... it's like having the last few years' of the October issue of MSLiving magazines in one place. There are ideas for pumpkin carving, home decorating, outside decorating, costumes for kids and adults, party themes, and a fair amount of decent recipes. Also, there are templates and resource guides for everything she shows in the book.As a big holiday family, I can honestly say that I had already thought of many of these things, but at least 1/3 of the ideas were completely brand new to me and very easy to flesh out (wink wink), customize and use in my own way. I would buy it again.

Martha rarely lets you down. While some of the recipes seem daunting compared to Gooseberry's easier ones, there is definitely a level of witch chic that only Martha could achieve. There is also a level of knowledge about Halloween crafts, traditions, and spookiness that you don't get from other Halloween crafts books. You feel like Martha really wants to teach you something. Overall a very inspirational book- if nothing else. You could just flip through and get inspired to get your trick or treat on in a very classy but dark way.

One of the best Halloween decorating books on the market in my opinion. Martha Stewart does Halloween right! Her beautiful Photography makes this a must read for Halloween enthusiasts. I love her simple clean designs with a gothic twist.
