When relationship educators Martin and Lydia Woods decided to host their church’s first marriage retreat on Miami’s sultry South Beach, they expected it to be eventful, yet they got much more than anticipated. With the help of psychologist Dr. Andrea Wilson, the couple is prepared to teach the art of war by placing their pupils in an environment full of people, parties, and forbidden pleasures. Amber and Eric are nearing their second anniversary. Their relationship would be smooth sailing, but Amber’s empty womb is causing tension both in and out of the bedroom. Eric’s friend Carl and his wife, Kelly, just wanted a vacation. But when the lights and music of South Beach beckon for Kelly, will her desire to reclaim her youth lead to the detriment of her marriage? Amber’s pastor and first lady, Franklin and Tamela Day, are also on deck, as well as Sarah from the Wife 101 course and her hubby, Jordan. With five couples to counsel, Dr. Wilson certainly has her hands full. Nevertheless, when unforeseen financial issues surface in her own marriage, will she still be able to help her new clients, or will her own husband be the iceberg that sinks her career?Prayer at sunrise, playtime at sunset, and even a picture perfect dinner cruise, this retreat is guaranteed to be a week these couples will never forget—for better or for worse....

Couples 101 (Wife 101 Series, #3) Reviews
"I didn't want to be unfaithful like my father, so I had been praying long and hard that God would not tempt me more than I could stand. Jesus be a fence around me and these bikini wearing women on the beach!"Doesn't South Beach sound like the most logical place to hold a marriage conference? Of course!!! Who would ever in their right mind get tempted by the bikini-clad women and gorgeous men and solely focus on their spouse and improving their marriage? Somehow, in Couples 101 despite the setting, we meet quite a few couples that are each going through their own set of issues and this book is nothing short of brilliant.Wife 101 (which is the first book in this series) was one of my most favorite reads of 2012 (it was released late 2011). And, then I thought there is no way A'ndrea can top that but when Husband 101 was released, I was pleasantly surprised. And, silly me thought, there's no possible way she can do it three times in a row. But, what do you know??? Couples 101 might be the best book in the entire series. There are so many gems and teachable moments that everyone, man or woman, married or single, absolutely everyone should read all three books in this series!!!!
Through Thick and ThinOur favorite couple, Amber and Eric, are back in the third installment of the Wife 101 series, “Couples 101.” They are joined by four other couples for a marriage retreat in Florida with psychologist Dr. Andrea Wilson. Amber and Eric clearly love one another, but is love enough?Married for five years herself and there to help other couples strengthen their marriages, Dr. Wilson soon finds that the couples she’s counseling may not be the only ones whose marriages are in need of strengthening. Does the therapist need a little therapy?Through six couples, A’ndrea Wilson offers readers a detailed picture of some of the hardships of marriage. Wilson again captures the personalities of all the characters and their interactions plus their personal dilemmas and the dilemmas of their marriages. At face value, a story about a course offered by a church on being a better wife/husband and another about strengthening couples’ marriage may not sound like the most interesting of reads, but Wilson has accomplished that with three books. Not only entertaining, the books are informative, encouraging, and inspiring. Regardless of your circumstances, this entire series is worth the read. Reviewed by: Toni
Whew! What can I say about Couples 101? Well after having read Wife 101 & Husband 101, I eagerly waited the release of this book. I must say that I read this book with a dear friend and we talked about each lesson together (in fact, we learned a lot about ourselves during the course of reading).Couples 101 picks up from where Husband 101 leaves off. Martin & Lydia Woods are still involved along with Eric & Amber Ross. Dr. Andrea Wilson makes an appearance along with two other couples. Instead of the class being held in church and around their daily surroundings, this class is down in South Beach. I loved how this study correlates with everyday life in a marriage. Despite me disliking a character or two in the story (you have to read to see who I'm referring to), the end of each lesson leaves you with suspense that you will not want to put the book down. It's definitely a page turner.I felt that this book was better than Husband 101 (which I gave 5 stars), but it still couldn't beat Wife 101. Trust me, you won't be disappointed with this read (but please, please, please read Wife 101 then Husband 101 before jumping into Couples 101).
A'ndrea J. Wilson's Couples 101 was the third book in her Wife 101 series, and it followed Husband 101. I was excited to read Couples 101 as I looked forward to the continuation of Amber and Eric's story. You will be surprised with some of the dynamics that take place as new characters are introduced to help move the story along. There was one character in particular that I wanted to nail to a cross but who am I to judge? I was so mad at him which goes to show you that the author did a fantastic job in drawing out my emotion. I recommend that you read Wife 101 then Husband 101 before diving into Couples 101. It is an awesome series!
Another fantastic read!!! Put on the whole armor of God...
Gets Better with Each BookNo only am I talking about author, A’ndrea Wilson, getting better with each book, but also beloved characters from the Wife 101 series, Amber and Eric as well. Each book arcs them toward a deeper understanding of themselves and eventually a greater contentment within their relationship. To me, that is what a series is all about – growth. In Couples 101, Amber and Eric, far beyond their honeymoon stage of marriage and devastating trials found in book 2, Husband 101, have decided to go away on a Couple’s retreat to Miami Beach of all places. They are joined by his friend, Carl and his wife, Kelly. There are four other couples as well including Wife 101, instructor, Lydia and her Husband 101 instructor-husband, Martin, the church’s First Couple, Franklin and Pamela Day, and new comers, Dr. Wilson, and her husband, Lemuel. Dr. Wilson adds her brand of intuitive therapy to the couples’ Oceanside discoveries and the series’ brand of semi-sermonic lessons taught by Martin and Lydia.Adding Dr. Wilson was a hoot and an intelligent way to weave in reality as each couple discovers they had packed their issues. This author does a great job of taking, in this case, eight people on their own journey. They are shaped by their sessions which take place on the beach and in Dr. Wilson’s hotel suite, but it is far from an instant a-ha moment for most of them. It was a great balance to have the scriptural reference I’ve come to know and ponder myself when reading this series, but also has a slightly clinical lens from which to view the complicated lives of couples. Everything from the empty nest syndrome to diminishing intimacy is dealt with. Like life, there are some issues can’t be conquered within the time constraints of a conference. The marriage retreat takes place and Miami. I only wished the story had added more descriptive elements of this notoriously uninhibited city to the storyline beyond the beach. I know a new installment is coming soon. I can’t wait for the lesson from the real Dr. A’ndrea Wilson will uncover in Singles 101.
Just Keeps Getting BetterIn this installment we see couples in action. Amber and Eric are back. Things are still a little rocky between them and this couple retreat couldn't come at a better time for this couple. There are 6 couples in all as we are introduced to Dr A’ndrea Wilson and her Husband Lem, who add a dynamic edge to the story. Other characters include Martin Day and his Wife Pamela. Eric’s employee and Friend Carl and wife Kelly Bradford. The 101 instructors Martin and his wife Lydia Woods. Jordan and Sarah Larks. Each with their own set of issues and concerns. It's amazing how they help each other without realizing it. Each chapter alternates characters and staying true to form, the author does an excellent job being true to the character's voice. What can I say? This series is a blessing to so many. Single, divorced, married, or other this series is for everyone. Don’t let the title fool you. While some of the couples issues you may not relate to you, I can say I know that others will. While this can be considered a standalone book I would suggest you start at the beginning to have a better understanding of why these couples move the way they do. I highly recommend this novel to all as well as the other books in this series. I can’t wait to see what direction this series goes with the next installment of “Singles 101” I may even give the short series “Wife To Be 101” a chance as shorts are not a favorite of mine, so that is saying a lot about I feel about the 101 series. Full armor of GodIs South Beach the best place in the USA to have a marriage retreat? Relationship educators Martin and Lydia Woods think so.Dr. Andrea Wilson is a well-known psychologist who has been asked to be a part of a marriage retreat and counsel five couples while also being a part of the retreat.Amber and Eric, Carl and Kelly, Franklin and Tamela, Sarah and Jordan, Martin and Lydia are the couples. They all have their issues but are they willing to admit that they even have any and if so, are they going to be able to open up to solve them? Then there is Andrea and Lem who are not as perfect as they appear. The temptation of the beach, prayer at sunrise and free time later in the day will make this retreat very interesting and will push the limit of more than the obvious participants.I have heard several different teachings on the full armor of God but this was another lesson for me. Couples 101 is very inspirational but also realistic in the issues brought to the forefront. Although it is based on married couples, I feel like it could also be a light to people who are dating or working to that end. It makes you think and learn to have faith and trust in God.Couples 101 is the third part of the series and I would recommend to read the whole series . . . Wife 101 and Husband 101. Thank you A’ndrea Wilson for a job well done. I look forward to your next project.
This was a great book looking into the relationships of married couples and focusing on their issues from a faith based point of view. Their was a lot of issues that the main character had to go through in her own relationship as well. I would recommend this book to any one having problems in their relationship or just want a good inspirational read.
