Gypsy of Spirits Reviews
Good introduction. Now finish it. A captivating quick read. The story centers around, Jackie Sanderson, who has an untapped gift of seeing and talking to the dead. The death of her parents sends her to a house she never knew existed, “The Sparrow House.” A small girl, Sally Lockwood mysteriously dies in the house. Not being able to bear the loss, her parents pack-up in an attempt to forget the past. Her dad even leaves his only photo of her behind. Sally stares at the photo and her parents wondering why she’s been left behind. Problem is, she’s dead. How’s that for a story line? Excellent scenery descriptions. Sometimes a little too much for me, but Katie paints a superb picture. Well done.A bit too muc,h he said, she said tags when only two people were talking. Disrupted the flow a touch. The last three paragraphs of the intro were a bit rough as more characters were frantically introduced. The ending was abrupt to say the least. No conclusion, no resolution and no hint of what’s to come. I’ll be watching for the full story.3.5 stars.
Katie Jennings writes with such emotion and feeling that it is impossible not to connect so quickly and strongly with her characters. This short story prequel gave a beautiful insight into one of the characters from the upcoming 'So Fell the Sparrow', and also have us a wonderful introduction into the ghostly goings on of the world that are not seen by everyone. This story did everything it was meant to, and had me eager to read 'So Fell the Sparrow' and also gave me that wonderful thrill that only a well-written ghost story can do! 5 shiny stars!
Great lead in to the full length novel. It was the book trailer for this prequel that caught my attention and I had to pick up the short story to see if it was as good as the trailer! It was. Excellent writing, captivating story, interesting characters, great premise. I'm looking forward to So Fell the Sparrrow coming out soon for a haunting romantic Halloween read!
An intriguing start to what promises to be an interesting and unique new paranormal series. With as talented a writer as Katie Jennings, you can't go wrong with this one. After reading this novella, I can't wait to read the first book in the series.
Usually do not like prequels or novellas before a book comes out so much, but this one really has a great story line and sucks you in. It may be a short story, but it definitely packs punch and I look forward to reading more.....
