I was given an ARC copy of Parallel Spirits for an honest review. This is a paranormal story not my go to genre but I was intrigued with the synopsis. The way Cassia explains the story/plot you have no problem understanding what is taking place. She takes you back in forth between two stories and years of history that intertwine in the future. The characters are beautifully written and the emotions they fill come right thru. We are left wanting answers not really a cliffhanger but wanting more. Looking forward to book 2 in the Carrier Spirits Journey. If you are looking for a change in your typical love triangle this is it. Go pick it up.

I was lucky enough to receive an arc copy of this book for an honest review and I loved it. I have read it twice already and each time it is better then the other. This is definitly a book that you should read.It moved along at an awesome pace from beginning to end, had amazing characters that you just fall in love with and an excellent story that you cannot get enough of.Cassia Leo is an amazing author and I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to be able to read and review her books. Once you start reading her books you cannot stop and will be anxiously awaiting the next wonderful work of art from Cassia Leo, as that is what they are, works of art.

Review: I was given a copy of Parallel spirits by Sunshine and Mountains book blog for an honest review. This book was so different from the Relentless series by Cassia Leo. But I fell in love with the characters in this book. I was captured from the beginning and when it ended I was sad. This book has a bit of paranormal with love and friendship. I loved that while I was reading this book I wasn’t ever sure what was going to happen next. I love when I am brought into a book like that! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. Great job Cassia! I can’t wait for the next book! I give it an A+! (5 stars)

While reading Cassia Leo's paranormal romance, Parallel Spirits, what intrigued me the most was the fact that I had no idea what would happen next. The plot is innovative and unpredictable, but most importantly, it's not something I've read a dozen times before. The human and spirit worlds collide in one narrative, creating a love story that has a contemporary feel, with the fantastical twist that spirits possessing unsuspecting people is a regular occurrence. Cassia Leo does a phenomenal job setting up the story, keeping me intrigued with scattered bits of information that I had to piece together to form a clearer idea of the story as a whole. Of the five central characters, Mara and Belinda alternate as narrators. The narrative jumps through time, spanning Mara's lengthy spiritual timeline up to her present involvement with Belinda, or more specifically, Belinda's love life, which finds her torn between her longtime friend, Frankie and new love interest, Conor. Unlike your typical stress-inducing love triangle, Parallel Spirits adds another level of complication with the interference of the two carrier spirits. Unlike with Cassia Leo’s Shattered Hearts series, I had no clear favorite of the two possible love matches, although this was probably because I second-guessed each of their motives. The plot constantly kept me guessing until I couldn’t help reading more into every suspicious comment and action. While I don’t typically read a lot of paranormal romances, I enjoyed Parallel Spirits because the concept of carrier spirits intermingling with the human race is an interesting and different concept, with the closest possible comparison being Stephenie Meyer’s The Host, and even then, the similarities are minor. It's almost like getting two stories in one because, while the central plot is the love triangle between Belinda, Frankie, and Conor, there is an equally important subplot involving Mara and Darius. I was so caught up in the drama unfolding between the aforementioned trio that it was an unexpected jolt every time Mara re-enters the picture. As the narrative progresses, the paranormal elements become more prominent until every character is submerged in the world Leo has created. Aside from a bit of action towards the book’s end, Parallel Spirits devotes much of its space to further explaining the mythology of the carrier spirits. While I understood what was going on for the most part, I feel like this book would definitely benefit from a second reading, so that I could go back and pick up on all the clues that I initially missed. Even after all the setup provided by Parallel Spirits, there are still many questions left unanswered, including the cliffhanger ending, which made me all the more anxious to find out what happens in book two.

This is the first time I have read this type of book and I must admit I was hooked from the first chapter. This story comes to life in these characters, a girl and her best friend, the boy in the park and of course the carrier spirits, this was an emotional and exciting story of love, hopes and dreams and heartache , a story of trying to become whole again, to feel love to become human. I would highly recommend this book, let the spirits take you on a journey, but hold on tight because this is one hell of a ride, I cant wait to see were this story goes in the next installment, Cassia Leo's is an amazing and talented story teller, you cannot go wrong reading her books. I would also like to say that I was touched by the dedication in this book for a lady that was taken too soon. RIP Patty.

I have not read too many paranormal romance stories so I don't have much experience with the genre. Cassia is known for well developed characters and I believe that is true for the characters in Parallel Spirits. However, it was not until about chapter 5 that I started to feel like I knew what was going on. I understand that you can't give too much away in the beginning, as you have to let the story unfold. For me, there was so much going on, I had a hard time keeping it all straight. I liked the premise of the story and I will definitely read the next installment, as I have to know what happens. I enjoyed reading from a different genre and something different from Cassia.

Parallel Spirits was about Mara trying to earn her body back by restoring the balance of her death by creating true love. In order for Mara to create true love she had to find a willing host. This is where Belinda's character comes into the story. Mara wanted to force true love between Conor and Belinda, but Belinda harbored feelings for her long time friend Frankie. Mara was from the 1700s where she was an Indian princess whose destiny was to wed Tuket, but she wasn't in love with him. When the man she loved was taken from her she threw her own life away setting her spirit free. This was how she became a carrier spirit. Mara was a spirit name who reclaimed her human body through Lily. Her human life as Lily lasted slightly longer than her human life as Mara. Mara was a human two times in the 300 years she's been on earth. These four characters: Darius, Samuel, Reno, and Tuket, were spirit carriers who at one point in the universe took over a body using a different name each time. I have no clue if these characters were one spirit or multiple spirits. Hard to keep track of. The entire spirit premise was confusing with the Three-Spirits Law and rules for hosting a body. Mara's character was connected to several characters which confused me. Too many characters hosting bodies as either a spirit carrier or a shadow spirit was hard to follow.Cassia's Shattered Hearts series will always be my favorite stories written by her. The writing style since that series has been lackluster. Cassia overinflated the story with distractions about minute things that prolonged the story. This story was too long and had very little going on to clear up the confusion of these spirit carriers and their intentions with Conor, Frankie, and Belinda. Many minor characters were introduced that added very little to the growth and development of the story. The setting was odd with the location being along the California coast with the topic of surfing amongst the carrier Spirits. Frankie's character surfed, yet he wasn't really Frankie. He was Darius which was a spirit carrier. Cassia was good with the art of distraction. All these surfing scenes and yet nothing resolved regarding Mara.Kindred Spirits is book 2 in the Carrier Spirits series.

Sadly, I did not enjoy this book. I've read other books by this author that I have loved! I found the story hard to follow and you don't get any real answers until over half way through the book. Not in an intriguing kind of way, in a "What is even happening?" kind of way. Belinda keeps eluding to what happened between her and Frankie but doesn't explain it until much later and by this time I was hating the guy. You get enough information to know they've been friends for a long time, they went too far one night then he was flirting with other people the next day. Then there's Connor, the guy the carrier spirit, Mara thinks could be Belinda's true love. So she's trying to get them to fall in love so she can get her body back, but Belinda is in love with Frankie. Frankie doesn't pay any attention to Belinda until she starts dating Connor. Connor is a creepy stalker that professes his love for Belinda after a couple dates. So between the player best friend and the stalker I was rooting for Belinda, who is 18 BTW, to just say screw it to both of them and maybe figure out what she wants for herself and not worry about what guy she was going to hook up with, because they both sucked.

Why do books end when my Kindle shows that I'm only 64% of the way through it? This really upsets me, especially when there was so much left unsaid or resolved between the three main characters of this story. I know there is another book after this one, and I'm not taking about the completely DIFFERENT book that was included with this version. But I don't want to be left with such an abrupt cliffhanger. My score might have been higher if the book had had a better ending because I was really interested in the story.

Unfortunately I did not enjoy this book. Only completed about 50% so did not finish. I loved the premise however I felt there was minimal character development and the story never really progressed. I felt the main character, Belinda, was unrelatable and too accident prone to be considered realistic. She made bad choices and always went against any advice she was given. I also felt the blurb was an over exaggeration of the story. Sorry Ms Leo, but I won't be recommending this book.

An interesting very well told story. It's not a story that you will have to guess what will happen, but it keeps you in yours chair' s edge all ther time. Our female main character is very bland and totally vulnerable. Almost all the time the spirit is like the main character. The characters themselves don't go deep in their inner development. They tell their stories as they are telling someone else story. In spite of all this I liked the book and its main theme, very interesting.

4 StarsCharacters- Multi-layered, complex, but very lovablePlot/Storyline- The story was very unique and an interesting concept. I found it sometimes hard to follow, but this definitely did not stop me from wanting to read it. The plot is very different and intriguing.Steam Factor- The sex was on the PG-13 side with only one sex scene to even note sex in the book. Cover- Love the flower especially since it does have significance in the book. And it's just a beautiful cover speaking artistically too.Cliffhanger- YES!!! Nothing is really resolved in this novel. You are left wanting to know lots of answers. CAN NOT WAIT for Book 2!! :)Overall- Great new story concept that keeps you turning pages and wanting more, despite the complexities of the story. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a very different Paranormal Romance with two sexy ass guys who have you torn between the two. How do you start a review about a book that is like nothing you've ever read before? Here is my best attempt. This story was complex but so intricately woven that in the end the overlapping stories came together to make for a great overall story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Phew! Did that make sense? Well, let me just try and summarize the book a little, nothing given away, I promise. One of my biggest pet peeves are spoilers so I would never do that to you. This is the story of really 5 people: Mara (Carrier spirit), Darius (Carrier Spirit), Belinda (18 year old lead girl), Frankie (Belinda's Best Guy Friend), and Conor (New guy vying for Belinda's attention). Belinda grew up with Frankie and they have maintained a great friendship until one night, March 23, that shall never be spoken of again. No, seriously, that's how Belinda refers to it ;) The story picks up with Belinda trying to figure out her relationship, after said night, with Frankie and trying to decide if she wants to date Conor, who is super sweet and cute.Belinda is a very shy, clumsy girl who doesn't do well in unfamiliar situations. Here enters Mara. Mara helps Belinda be a braver person than she normally would be in these uncomfortable situations, but there is an internal struggle Belinda has with whether she should rely so heavily on Mara's assistance because then she is not able to maintain the confidence without Mara, which would result in dependency. And dependency is never a good behavior.Mara approaches Belinda in hopes to help her out in the real world because Belinda may be the key that Mara needs to possibly rejoin the real world. This is if the Law makers of the spirit world feel that she has righted the wrong she has committed in the past. It's a bit complex but it makes sense once you've read the book, I promise.A slight love triangle develops between Belinda, Frankie, and Conor. I know who I want Belinda to end up with, but you make your own choice :) Things get complicated between these three due to the constant interference of both Mara and Darius. Mara and Belinda become sort of a team and somewhat friends as time passes and they both begin to want to help each other. But there is something always getting in the way of their efforts and that is where you'll just have to read the book to find out. This book will keep you turning pages and wanting more answers. Sadly, there are lots of questions that you will have to wait until the next book to have answered, but definitely read this book. Its very unique and all consuming. I can not wait for the next book!!! Such great writing and a beautiful complex story. Well done again Cassia Leo. You never disappoint :)Favorite Quotes:"They say love is blind, but they're wrong. Love is the harshest light shined on every insecurity, every weakness, every broken promise. It exposes its victims, laying their bloody hearts bare on a slab of cold stone. Love is not for the fainthearted. Love is for humans.""My dad always said that crying was our way of getting rid of the bad feelings. He said every teardrop represented one bad thought and that I should always cry when I feel like crying because otherwise those bad thoughts clog up your insides and pretty soon you can't feel anything-no bad feelings or good feelings. He even had a catchphrase for the times he would catch me trying to hold in my tears: Don't muck about. Let it out.""I know now there is nothing more precious than the pain of heartache. Just the way love shines a light on every painful insecurity, pain shines a light on everything beautiful. All the moments we long for, all the love we hope for, they wouldn't exist without the darkness."

I received and ARC in exchange for an honest review. First, I will say that I am not a huge paranormal romance reader. I have read some and enjoyed them but it’s not my go to genre. I have enjoyed Cassia Leo’s books in the past and wanted to give this a try and I am so glad I did.I will start with the only criticism I have which is that I thought the story was a little hard to follow for the first few chapters. The concept of a carrier spirit did not make sense to me until a little further along in the book. Even not fully understanding, I was able to get involved with the characters and start loving the story. Cassia's strength is character development and this story is another perfect example.I want to call this a love triangle but that’s really not the correct word… because it involves five different characters (some spirits, some human or a combination of both). I won’t get into the details of how a carrier spirit works except that they inhabit a human body (possibly from birth or on a temporary basis). They are restless spirits who must right some previous wrong in order to regain their bodies (which is where the spirit gets a body at birth) and then die again so their spirit is at rest. The book explains it much better than I could! But the main character is Belinda who is a bit shy and awkward. She is best friends with Frankie and their relationship has deteriorated somewhat over the past few months after they attempted dating. A new guy, Conor enters the picture and Belinda finds herself instantly drawn to him. Yet she cannot get over lingering feelings for Frankie. There are two main spirits involved, Mara and Darius who have a very rocky past. Mara is trying to help Belinda and Conor fall in love (which is what she thinks she needs to do get her body back). Darius wants to stop Mara and is willing to go to great lengths to ensure he gets his way.Frankie and Conor have their own secrets which really move the storyline along. I won’t give away the ending but it will leave you ready for the second book even though I wouldn’t consider it a cliffhanger. This is one book where I have no favorite in the ‘love’ department. I like Frankie and Conor equally and am curious to see where book two will take us. I recommend trying this even if you aren’t normally a paranormal reader. The romance factor is high and the paranormal aspects are pretty easy to follow (once you get a few chapters in). A lot of paranormals just don’t make sense to me… the plots are too outlandish and the story doesn’t flow. However, I didn’t have that problem with this book. Cassia has given us the best of both worlds. The paranormal aspect makes it a nice break from a normal NA/YA read. This is more of an older YA read so don’t expect the detailed steamy sex scenes like her other books. There is some of that here but it’s tamed down quite a bit since these are high school age characters.

Belinda is just a normal girl trying to survive high school and all the trappings thereof. Until she notices that she is having dreams that turn out to not be dreams. She is doing things without deciding to do them. When she figures out what is going on she makes a deal with the carrier spirit using her body. Mara can use her as a means to earn a body of her own. In return Mara will help Belinda find love.In the quest for love and a body though spirits from Mara's past are around every turn. It will take everything in both of their powers to survive the traumas and tragedies that befall them in their journey.I'm not usually a huge paranormal fan, but I'm always a huge Cassia fan!! I really enjoyed this book. While the entire book is paranormal it doesn't ever feel paranormal, if you know what I mean. I felt like this was just a normal love triangle between a girl and two boys. The spirits felt just as human as the humans did. I was quite grateful for it. If more paranormal books had this 'real' feel to them I'd be a huge fan!As only Cassia can, there was no way to be sure which guy was the right one. My heart went out to both Frankie and Conor. They were both wonderful people and cared so greatly for Belinda. There is no way that I could pick just one. My head says that Conor is great and stable but my heart says that Frankie is 'it' for her. I feel like a lot of the pain and suffering that Belinda felt was because of a huge misunderstanding that she never fleshed out with the people involved.I loved Mara. Yes, her actions were questionable and some of the things she did I wasn't a huge fan of. (Stealing Belinda and Conor's first kiss!? OUCH!!) But the things that she has had to overcome to get to where she is and still have any hope? Amazing! And Darius? I'm still unsure about him. I wanted to hate him but there is just something so tragic about him that I couldn't help but kind out want him to get what he wanted. Not in place of the others happiness but in addition to, even if that is never possible.I truly enjoyed Parallel Spirits and would recommend it to any romance lover, regardless of their interest in paranormal. As it didn't feel paranormal to me. It was a great, well written story with lots of twists and turns. It kept me invested in the characters throughout and I am looking forward to the next book, due out next summer.

“How can you see into my eyes
Like open doors?
Leading you down into my core
Where I've become so numbWithout a soul
My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there
And lead it back home”“Wake Me Up Inside” EvanescenceWhen I think of Parallel Spirits, I think of destiny, the hidden power believed to control what will happen in the future.Mara has been a carrier spirit for more than three centuries. She finds a “home” or “host” in Belinda, an eighteen-year old high school senior. Belinda is willing to “host” Mara, and in exchange, Mara will help Belinda find love. Paranormal is not normally my genre. I am a huge Cassia Leo addict and knew I had to give this book a chance. OMG am I glad I did. It is a love story with twists and turns and Cassia works her usual magic, captivating you with every word. Belinda’s best friend, Frankie, of course another HOT character, who is always there for her. She wants to confide all that has happened to her with him, but fears that he will think she is crazy. He is an amazing best friend and I was kinda sorta team Frankie for a bit. Then Belinda meets Conor, and sparks fly. He is sweet, warm, and SMOKIN hot!!! So then I switched and I was all “Team Conor”. I will not share which team I landed on in the end…you will have to choose for yourself. But just know that both are swoonworthy and will be fighting for your affections. Belinda and Mara are both enamored with Conor, but that is not the only challenge they face. Someone from Mara’s dark past comes into play and possesses none other than Conor’s body. It is a wild ride and you will be shocked and left breathless. In Cassia’s words, “Falling in love is just as dangerous as battling evil spirits.”I wanted to jump in the book and fight these evil spirits with them. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I am so anxious so see what Cassia has in store in the next book!!!!! 5+++++++++ STARS!!!

So this one surprised me. Having been disappointed in most of what I've read from Leo so far, I didn't have high hopes going in. But color me shocked. Parallel Spirits deals with souls. What happens when a soul leaves your body? What happens to the body it left behind? Leo describes a world where when someone experiences something so tragic, their soul is ripped away from their bodies. Most return, however, if the body dies before the soul can return, the soul becomes a carrier spirit. Doomed to roam the earth until it can earn its body back.Mara is a carrier spirit and she believes she can earn her human life back by making Belinda and Conner fall in love...to bad Belinda is in love with someone else. Not only that, but there are spirits from Mara's past who come to play in ways that she never saw coming. I really liked the characters - Belinda, Conner, Frankie - and this was one story where the instalove worked and made sense. I mean, a carrier spirit was forcing them together. Frankie was the most interesting, for reasons I won't discuss cause spoilers, and I would be so interested in something from his point of view. Mara was the issue for me. I felt bad for her, yes, but at the same time I just wanted to shake her. I mean, she believed that she would get her body back by bringing two people together. But forcing love on someone doesn't work. Especially when Belinda discovers the truth. I mean, you would have to wonder how much of what you feel is because of you or this carrier spirit who just keeps possessing your body whenever she wants. Mara was a stubborn child. While she had her reasons, I really think she could have avoided all of the chaos if she would have stopped to think. I'm hoping that the author continues the plans to release a second one because I for one, want to know what comes next because the book didn't really end.

I was lucky enough to win an ARC of Parallel Spirits. I must say that if you are a fan of love stories, but you are tired of the typical happily ever after, and you want something different, then Parallel Spirits is the book you are looking for. This book is very engaging, captivating, and unpredictable. I had no clue what to expect or what was going to happen next. I would also say that Parallel Spirits has a bit of a love triangle in the story because Belinda is uncertain of who she wants to pursue. One minute she is more fond of Conor and the next she is beginning to doubt that just being friends with Frankie is the best idea. Belinda couldn't decide if her feelings were real of if they were being encouraged by Mara, the carrier spirit. "Carrier spirits are born from the most tragic of circumstances." Mara is a carrier spirit that is struggling to redeem her past that way she can be granted a body to avoid damnation from the ECHOES to live eternity in the shadow spirits. A carrier spirit must restore the imbalance created by their death. Mara tries to seek redemption by helping Belinda find true love. However what Mara did not expect is for her past to come back and haunt her. The individual's in her past pose as a barrier in her attempt to make her wrong choices in life, right. The purpose is to have hope, when hope is lost....well I can't tell you that part. "You'll figure it out someday." The ending leaves loose ends for the second book which will definitely be worth the read I am sure. Ultimately, Parallel Spirits is a real page turner and certainly worth the read, especially if you are looking for something different, then I highly recommend this book.

Let me start off by saying that the dedication in this book was just beautiful-it brought me to tears. <3 This was the first paranormal book that I have ever read. I have never really gotten into the genre so I didn't know what to expect. But I will say that this was definitely a great book to have as my first experience! I loved it! Cassia never ceases to amaze me! Her writing is outstanding and this book is a prime example of that. I was hooked on this story from start to finish. There was a great flow to it. There are many significant elements that are integral to the story and make it what it is. Each character have unique personalities which makes them amazing and makes you love them. Mara and Belinda were splendid as well as the guys-Conor and Frankie. Each brought their own dynamic to the story. The deeper you get into the story, the more amazing it is. And all the drama in the story just makes it that much more fantastic and keeps you wanting. Overall, this story was excellent! It has everything needed to make a great book. I didn't want it to end. This is a story about love, heartbreak, hope, and feeling whole. Cassia is amazing as always in her story-telling and writing. It was an enjoyable read and you will not want to put it down. Can't wait for the next part in the series.

This was an original story - I've never read anything like this one before. It's a paranormal love story with a twist. The story is narrated by Mara and Belinda, and the story switches back and forth from the present to the past. Mara is a carrier spirit, she has been in the other world for over 300 years, as penance for her actions when she was alive. In order to regain a body she must do something for the greater good, and sees Belinda as her way out.Belinda is the host body that Mara is using, she realises something is up when she starts experiencing 'blackouts' - she is concious but her actions don't feel like her own. She is able to feel when Mara takes over her body and isn't sure at first whether this is a good thing. Belinda is a little lost. She only has her mother and best friend Frankie, and when Mara offers to help her with Connor, a boy that she likes, she allows Mara in.I loved how the story twists and turns, I wasn't sure who to trust. Who was acting in Belinda's best interests and who was out for themselves. I don't want to give any of the twists away, but I will say that there *could* be another love triangle in this book, and being a fan of the Shattered Hearts series, I know that this is something Cassia Leo does really well! I can't wait to read the next book, to see where the story goes.

I was really excited to read this because I loved Cassia Leo’s Shattered Heart series but I was a little concerned after I read chapter 1 that I was not going to enjoy it, but that was not the case…I was taken out of my “comfort zone” as it as definitely not my usual read.Parallel Spirits introduces you to three high school seniors; Belinda, Frankie and Conor. Belinda and Frankie have been friends for years and Belinda is clearly in love with Frankie but feels he does not feel the same way. Belinda is an unsure, clumsy teenager who somehow has caught the eye of Conor but something happens whenever she is around Conor…..Mara.Mara has made choices in her life which have brought her to become a “carrier spirit” she wants to be in human form again and she feels that the way to do this is to convince Conor and Belinda they are in love….but Mara at some point becomes so focused on revenge and getting back a body that she doesn’t realize that it has started hurting Belinda.“There is no harsher punishment than that which is self inflicted”Parallel Spirits does not have the “steam factor” that I am usually looking for but Cassia Leo knows how to tell a story and I loved every second of it.***I received this ARC from the author for an honest review***

Well this is totally different from Cassia's other stories. And it's an awesome kind of different! This Paranormal piece of literature totally blew me away. The concept of "Carrier Spirits" was a fabulous choice that completely pulled me into the story. Ghost stories totally intrigue me...but this is no ordinary ghost story. What would you do to get the life you crave? What would you sacrifice? And at what cost to you or anyone around you? These are all questions that you have to ask yourself when you are getting to know Mara and Belinda.Belinda is awkward and unlikely to ever be part of the in crowd. But things start to change when she meets Mara. Her confidence changes and her love life starts to heat up. The only problem is who is in charge? How long do you give in to that power before its too late to turn back. Is Belinda prepared to lose all that is important to her?Thank you for this breath of fresh air Ms Leo. As always a fantastic literary adventure...I can't wait to read book 2!

I really did like this book. Who doesn't love young love with all the insecurities that comes along with it....I was little bit confused about Belinda and Frankie's relationship at one point it seem like they were really into each other but they didn't know how to transition from being best friends or into something more but they really never discussed there relationship. It's like she really didn't know what she wanted. She went back-and-forth between Frankie and Connor and I still don't know where the relationship stands. Does she want Frankie does she want Connor I guess we'll just have to wait till the next book to find out. Mara playing matchmaker I don't really know how I feel about that....I know that she was only trying to help her but if she really wasn't feeling Conner like that she could've just said something.
