I thought that this book would maybe be funny, BUT...It wasn't! It was just annoying.I made myself finish reading it, BUT...I wish that I hadn't wasted my time.

How many uses can you think of for a sock? I put them on my feet... oh! and I dust with the old ones that have holes. Most inventions are happy accidents. This is exactly what happens to Eddie and his dog Phil.A book for older children, Eddie and Phil live in a town where hats are scarce. The two are on their way to fish BUT! Eddie's dad sends them off to aunt Sue's to help her out. Every time there seems to be an end to Eddie and Phil's problem there's always a BUT! waiting around the corner, extending the story. As in life, but's can go on forever never leading us to solve an issue. To read more BUT!s visitThe Book Banana.

Truth be told, I thought I was going to hate the art. But this is SO well-written, and the people of Halibut Bay “where hats were hard to come by and people had cold heads” won me over. Eddie, the hero of our tale, has to throw a birthday party for a pirate because his Aunt Sue tripped on some yarn and broke her leg. Cake and balloons are covered, but what birthday gift can he get for a pirate with zero notice? Hamilton provides a happy ending with an extra laugh, and my kiddo at age 7 was delighted with this.

Absurdity abounds in this story of a boy who has to do chores for his aunt. BUT one of the chores is preparing a party for pirates. This involves finding an appropriate pirate gift. BUT that's hard when you didn't get much advance notice. A set of socks will have to do BUT it turns out the pirate has a peg leg. He's going to be insulted by the gift. All could end badly BUT the boy is a quick thinker. The story dodges from one problem to another with whacky illustrations and ridiculous notions. Silliness abounds.

Eddie is just trying to have a fun weekend fishing, BUT! Through series of silly and serendipitous events, Eddie spends the weekend doing chores for his aunt and making life better for a lot of people in Halibut Bay.Illustrations are great.

This is an engaging story for children with longer attention spans - just when you think you know what's going to happen, there's a curve ball thrown in! Each page ends with a BUT and the story continues. It's fun and a good way to build narrative skills.

A funny cause-and-effect story of socks, pirates, and hats! It's a wee-bit long, but kids and adults who spend the time to get to the very end will have a good laugh!
