Yesterday's Memories Reviews
As Emily drove down the winding road, she spotted a house and was instantly drawn to it. Although there was no “For Sale” sign on the yard, it didn’t appear as if anyone was living there. There was just something about that house that made her feel like she was meant to have it. After some research, she found that the house was indeed vacant. She was told by the realtor that the owner didn’t have the house listed, but said if the right buyer came along, someone who loved the house as much as his family did, then thy would sell it. After purchasing the home, Emily found a box full of pictures in the attic. She loved how the house was decorated and was hoping to find furnishings similar to the pictures as possible. To her delight, she came across an antique shop that had many of the original furniture and décor from the house. Emily became quick friends with the shop owner, Marsha. She learned that Marsha was very close to the family who lived in that house. She also found out that the house held a secret. In the library of the house, there was a “window” that allows you to travel into the past. Emily stumbled upon this by accident. At first she didn’t know what was happening and thought she was going crazy. When she realized that she had traveled back in time, it intrigued her. She was able to meet the family who had lived there before and formed a quick bond with them. But when she finds herself falling for a man in the past, she’s wondering if she say goodbye to the present day and live in the past with him.Yesterday’s Memories is unlike any book I’ve read. Although it is a romance novel, it also has time travel in it as well. I wasn’t sure how I’d respond to a book of this genre, but found that I really liked it. I enjoyed seeing how the characters of the present and past interact and the complexity of the romance that they shared. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It will make you laugh and it will make you cry, but overall it will have you believing in the magic of love.
(*THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***Synopsis:One year after her fiancé’s death Emily finds herself driving outside of a small mountain town. As she parked her car and climbed out Emily felt she had finally come home. It’s about finding a window through which you’ll find your soul mate. It is very descriptive, and although the reader will have a vivid picture of the scenes, I found the level of detail slowed the story too much for my taste. The author provided just enough back-story, and combined with the ample dialog, the reader gets to know the characters well.If half-stars were available, I might have given the book 3.5 stars as the outcome of the story was obvious by chapter four.***Review has been done in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official. A pleasant readI enjoyed the book immensely. It has all the aspects of a romantic time travel you look for without it leaving questions. Except towards the end when the story drags a bit, Ms Coady keeps it moving along and wraps it up nicely.
Yesterday's MemoriesAn interesting time travel story in which a mountain view property has two windows through which one can travel. The great-grandfather built his house over the one window. Through this window travelers could go and then return to their same place in time which happened to be the library of the home. However, with the window in the woods the travelers did not return and were assumed dead. In the time of our story, his grandchild, Mary, and her husband Robert have passed years ago, and their son has refused to list the house for sale. His father, Robert, told him he'll know when the right seller comes to buy the property. The seller has arrived trying to put her life together eighteen months after the death of her fiance, Roger. Emily falls in love the old home and realizes this house fits their dream of a bed and breakfast. With the help of Marsha, the owner of the antique store, Emily puts the home back together almost like it was especially the library which Marsha kept all the original furniture and furnishings. Marsha knows about the window in the library, but Emily slips into it quite unexpectedly. She travels back in time meeting Mary, Robert, and Mary's younger brother Walter. Until they can explain traveling back in time, Emily thinks she's gone crazy. She and Walter fall in love, but since the travelers cannot change anything that has happened in the past, Mary and Robert send her back to her time in the future since Walter's bent on proving that one could return from the window in the woods and would disappear from her life. She visits Mary and Robert from time to time, but Walter has not reappeared. Once she gets the B & B up and running with much help from Marsha since she bakes the best tasting muffins which are a big hit at breakfast time, her thoughts were to help people having regrets to travel back in time to address those regrets. She could only help persons that had stayed at this home sometime in their life. When one such person stays at the B&B they travel back to see her mother who died shortly after that summer vacation. Returning only hurts Emily when she sees a much younger Walter, and after helping Erica, decides that she cannot go back because it is too painful. Months pass and she is ready to reopen Yesterday's Memories B & B, and who but Walter appears. He didn't die, but it has taken years for him to return from the past where the "forest window" dropped him. His startling discovery changed everyone's opinion of the mysterious forest window. Older and wiser than before, he marries Emily and return through the library window just once to let his sister know that he wasn't dead. The return of Walter was expected, but the "how" was not. Enjoyed this story.
To be honesty I really liked the premise of the book- I love anything involving time and I'm a sucker for a good romance. But this was HARD to read. And trust me I've read my fair share of books. I never got involved in the book like I normally would (you know that feeling when everything kinda goes away and all you want to do is read? Yeah. That never happened.) I felt like the characters were very unbelievable and bland. The protagonist? Oh don't even get me started on her. I have been known to be one of those people to throw my book across a room when a character is being "stupid" (or generally lacks any common sense whatsoever) Those who read a lot will know that feeling-when you want to jump into the book and scream at the person to stop throwing themselves into situations. Oh let me tell you, it was a shame I was reading this book on my phone because if I had a paper copy I swear there would've been a mark on my wall from throwing this book. And my GOD the muffin lady made me want to tear my hair out I've never seen muffins mentioned so many times in one chapter, let alone an entire book. To those people who loved this book, you are either so strong that I can't even begin to comprehend the will power and strength you have, or you just love a bland story.
I very much enjoyed this book.I see it was her first one. i loved the characters and the stories interwoven in the book. I would love to see a sequel to this one. i know there are some grammer issues butoverlooking that the story was fantastic.
I have read this book twice and plan to read it many more times in my lifetime. It is my favorite book of all time...and time is what it's about..time travel. You will never forget this book!
