Charred Tears, book two of the Heart of Fire series, picks up right where we left off in Charred Heart and I definitely recommend book one be read first. It is always difficult to discuss the next book in a series without crossing the line of spoilers, but I will try. We are now familiar with the main players and this has opened the door for more awesome world building, as well as more in-depth information on other peripheral characters. For me this installment was the crown roast of the banquet and very satisfying indeed, and I found I enjoyed this installment even more than book one. There are some awesome plot twists, secrets unfold, and I can't wait to find out what happens next. The writing continues to be clean and well structured. The turmoil surrounding Chace and Sky kept me glued to the pages devouring each little morsel as it was served. Chace's trials are significant and his self recriminations just shy of the point of wanting to slap him and tell him snap out of it, but he definitely man's up when it counts. Sky well as much as I really love her character, there were a few times where I wanted to shake my finger at her and say aren't you the one who set out to kill the dragon to begin with, poor you get over it already. Of course in her defense she does have a lot of new information and revelations to swallow, so we can cut her some slack. As much as I enjoyed book one, for me it was more of an appetizer, where Charred Tears was a meal and a very satisfying one indeed. As far as the smexy goes, there is a saying about good things come to those who wait, insert winky face here. I will definitely keep my eye open for the next installment, I have to find out what happens next. I won an ARC copy of this book in a giveaway and received no compensation for the writing of this review, other than the joy of reading a new story.

Oh Gunner we have you to thank for making a heavy situation more amusing, "if by bad, you mean is it the most disgusting, infected, horrible thing I've seen since I became an emergency room doctor, then yes, it's bad, Chace." Chace he's starting to realize some things, and that maybe his choice was I don't a mistake..." Skylar is the Protector," he started. "She takes care of us. I take care of her." Gunner I loved his a** ya'll have no idea how much I love that man! "I'm really looking forward to this ride," Gunner said sarcastically. "Ya'll need to eff and get if over with. This is killing me." Chace he's a good guy, he's go through hell and back to make sure his girl is happy sacrificing himself, "I get it. I'm more than willing to let you use my body for your pleasure until you decide to forgive me," he said, grinning." Yeah, there was a damn cliffhanger but I didn't think it was to bad and I'm ready for Skylar and Chace to get their happy ending so bring on book 3!

Holy Shit! Absolutely amazing. Thought book 1, "Charred Hearts" was good, but book 2 blew it out of the water. Talk about a lot action and drama going on this round; not to mention a whirlwind of emotions that Chace and Sky have for one another. Here's a couple that definitely have a lot of heat and chemistry, and how can there not be as this is an author who can write terrific and unbelievably hot, drool-worthy sexcapades. Hell, I was jealous of all the hot sex she was getting. When it comes to magic, I can take it or leave it, but all the magic that's weaved throughout is something new and different and I absolutely loved it! I don't want to give away too much so I'll leave it at that. I can't wait for the next book in the series, "Charred Hope". It can't come soon enough.

Slightly better than the first. Though the sex scenes still seem forced

I got a copy of this book from a tour host in exchange of an honest review.Full post here: http://lilypondreads.blogspot.com/201... Yay I was so excited about the second book already being out when I finished with book one and to get it on the tour, was even better! I love Dragon's in general and reading this series I have learned that I also enjoy dragon shifters. I am going to have to find more books to fix my craving for them after this one!Chace and Skyler are back. Book two takes place shortly after Chace got what he wished for in exchange of betraying Skyler. The big bad blue dragon comes with a surprise that rocks Skylers world. The people she trusted most betrayed her and now she wants answers. Answers about her mother, about her friends and what happened to the rest of the shifters.I really enjoyed this book. I loved the character growth in it even thought I believe that Skyler is a bit too trusting. I did really like seeing her grow in other parts, especially when she started to come into her own powers. What she could do with them shocked me a little. Did not see it coming.Chace is still swoon worthy, even if he did screw up badly in book one. Now he has no powers, and he isn't sure how to get them back. I love how Lizzy worked that into the book and that he did not get his powers back quickly by the end of the book. But Chace has learned his lesson, but even with the crazy chemistry that's back between them, Skyler has a hard time forgiving him for what he had done. Now there's a war raging and Skyler with her new status must figure out which side to choose, as soon as people stop lying to her. This book starts on a great note and the action explodes at the end of the book, keeping me hooked throughout. Not as many sizzling scenes as there was in book one, which left more to the storyline. I loved that the relationship between Skyler and Chace has been so realistic. He hurt her, lied to her and she has a hard time forgiving him. Which I can see happening in real life.I am eagerly looking forward to the last book in the series, especially with the way book two has ended!

After reading the first book in this series, I immediately started reading this second installment. Wow! I loved the first book, yet somehow I feel as if I loved the second book even more. Sky really comes out of her confused state and becomes the person she is truly destined to be. There's so many aspects of this installment that I really loved that it's hard to really pinpoint what the most important parts are! Everything flowed so well together that I actually devoured this book within just a couple hours. Chace finally gets what he wants. He's not magical anymore, he's as close to human as he was before he was cursed. Now that he's gotten what he wanted, he realized that it's not what he wanted at all. You'd think someone would mature more in a thousand years, but well... he is a man after all. =P. His internal struggle with himself was very well done, the magic peeking through where necessary, keeping the reader with the hopes that the magic will truly return and there will be the fantastic HEA we all want. Just not in this installment ;)I think my favorite part of this installment is the figurines and the magic involved all around them. Would love to go into more details about it, but I totally won't spoil it for you! I'll never look at a mythical figurine the same again, though!I definitely want book three now. Next month? Yeah. Totally not fast enough for me! I've read quite a few books from this author, but I have to say she's totally outdone herself this time. Definitely a must read series for anyone that loves their shifter stories!Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for honest review.

Well hell...wasn't expecting half of what happened in this book...but gotta say, I actually liked this one a bit more than the first book.We pick up with Sky feeling betrayed and stuck on the island with Gavin while Chace is in his cabin hurt and fevered. From there, things start to get fun...gotta say I loved Gunner! Although Chace and he are friends, Chace never really appreciated what that meant and Gunner's attitude on calling him out on things was great. Yep, Chace definitely needed the kick in the butt to make him aware he has been an idiot for a large part of his life. However, that doesn't mean I don't still really like the guy. Skylar can definitely match him in obstinacy. Where he was caught up in being human and not making the most of what he had, she still struggled to believe her life was not what she thought it was and that the slayers are not who they say they are.Mason, Caleb, Freyja, even Gavin surprised me in this book. I'm still not sure what to make of Freyja and Mason. I loved the fact that the shifters are not all dead, but wished that Chace didn't struggle so much with understanding women or how to get his magic back. So of course, we're still waiting on his final epiphany and Skylar is back with the slayers...At times I think she is too hard on him, and at others, I want Gunner to kick him in the a$$...HARD. And why or why do the women always just walk right into danger? Luckily, less than a month until the final book so stay tuned!

Chase no longer has his powers and now he realizes what he gave up, and I'm not only talking about his powers. He now realizes what he gave up when he traded Skyler to Mr. Nothing. But how can he make her realize that he has learned his lesson and make her see how sorry he is, and would she ever believe him? There is more going on with the Slayers then they originally thought and more to Skyler being the Protector also. Whatever the slayers have done to the shifters Skyler can undo. Can Chase get Skyler to trust in and believe in him enough in time to save her from trusting the wrong people? Can he save her from making a wrong choice that may put her in more danger? This book was great! I loved it! There was lots of danger and some souls searching. There was some great making up! And some pairing up of enemies to go against a common enemy. I would highly recommend but I do say this should not be read as a stand alone. You do want to read the previous book first or you will be lost. Looking forward to the next book!

This was a really easy read, and a great addition to the series, although I did feel that it tried a bit too hard to make it into an epic adventure rather than the love story it was in the first book, but in the end I think it paid off as I am now very much looking forward to reading the next book in the series. The main characters are Chase and Skylar, Chase now suffering from the loss of his magic and Skylar being abducted by her ow father. The two at the beginning of the book are far away from each other and suffering because of it; however Skylar escapes from her father and goes to find her Slayer friends while Chase with the help of Gunnar tries to heal. Skylar discovers her powers in this book at a time when Chase has none to help her. The two in this book should come together more but that is not the case. The storyline and pacing have been massively stepped up in this book in order to build up to the war coming in the next one- I think.A great book 4 stars

******ARC**********8Loved this book as a follow up....hated it ends in a cliff hanger....is the next book out yet....Love the Chace and Sky connection again. Now I have to question Mason's and Dillons real motives...It was nice to see that Gavin truly loved Sky even if he couldn't show it any other way than he did.

**Originally written for Book Bliss book blog.**Review: 5 starsGeneral: AHHHH!!! It was so so short! Charred Tears was absolutely stunning, a beautiful and fantastical ride that I could not get enough of. This book is definitely not a stand alone and this book is just as amazing as Charred Heart so there is no reason not to start there! Like I said, the only thing wrong was this book was a novella and I wasn't expecting that, I am not so patiently awaiting Charred Hope. This book was just as engaging, spicy and well done as book 1. It does start almost immediately after the book ended. The descriptions in this book honestly blow book 1 out of the water, because while book one was steeped in sex and character building, this one was steeped in pure, beautiful plot. This was the section where we learned way more about the world and all it's dirty secrets. Goodness are there dirty secrets everywhere! It was insanely original and a little over the top but so fantastic just the same. I would kill to be able to do what Sky can!The book was well paced, the characters as entertaining as before but with more information on certain side characters, like Gunnar and the mysterious Gavin. The action in the book was breathtaking each time and Lizzy Ford knows how to write a cliffhanger, it's a fully finished novel but leaves you dying to know what comes next! While it wasn't as sex influenced as the first book the scenes still sizzled and I'm rooting for forgiveness.Characters: Skylar: Skylar isn't too different this book. We learn more about her powers and get to see how see deals with the aftermath of a triple betrayal (Dillion/Mason, Chace and technically dear old dad). I found her to be believable from all angles and loved her reaction to it all. She's growing more comfortable with the world she's thrust into and I am very interested to see how the changes we will learn more affect her.Chace: Chace really does have a huge change. He essentially repents and accepts his new role in life and his love for Skylar. I still love him, he's even more loveable now because he didn't lose his alpha instincts but you can see the change in him.

I am officially a Lizzy Ford minion. She writes such imaginative, wonderful stories that just whisk you away for a couple hours of adventure through reading. I've called her previous books kindle-bruisers and candy reads. Kindle-bruisers because you're hanging onto every word, punching your kindle with one finger to get to the next page; candy reads because they are these delicious nuggets or bonbons that you can't help but want to shove into your mouth until you become diabetic.I read Charred Heart, the first book, last month, and was so excited to read Charred Tears this month! The final in this trilogy, Charred Hope comes out in January, so the rumor mill has it. Phew! Not a long wait in between books at all! You MUST start with Charred Heart. You need to meet Chace and Skylar and find out why the heck we are where we are and what is going on.This book picks up where Charred Heart left off -- Chace is without his magic, Skylar is mad at him and still convinced she can trust the people she was brainwashed to work with, there are a host of new (or more participatory) characters in this book. Skylar annoyed me in this book. She has this holier than thou attitude, is overly persecuting of Chace and everyone that isn't her, etc. While she's coming out of her shell, she was a jerk in this book. I know she has a lot to process, new information, etc., but since she's taking the reigns of control, I don't feel like I owe her any slack. Big girl panties, Skylar. Big girl panties. Another little facet of her I found unbelievable/annoying is how she calls Gavin/Mr Nothing "Dad". Dad is something that is affectionate, lifelong, earned. I suppose it rubbed me the wrong way because there is no way in heck I'd be calling him Dad quite so soon, happy or not to be reunited with him.Gunner the panther was my favorite. He brought such wonderful levity to intense situations while being perfectly serious. His sarcasm isn't heavy and rude, it's just that perfect amount that makes you snicker. Ooooh how I hope for more of him in Charred Hope, coming in January!

Her writing gets better and better with each passing book! I love this series and have high hopes for the last book in this series Charred Hope that comes out later January 2014. The characters are great and the book is a fast paced read that at the end will leave you gasping and wanting more. The author is known for her great cliffhangers on her other series and this one is no different. This is a must read for a matured audience. I have to admit that this series is by far my favorite with a few others of hers coming in close seconds. This author has the ease and capability to captivate the readers and not let go even after the book ends which is a rare gift in and of itself. Love love love it! Can't wait to see what this author has in store for her readers in 2014.Amazon Book Description~Skylar is being hunted by the very people she used to trust. I am totally in love with Chace, he may be selfish, but he has learned from his mistakes and is at least trying to make up for them. This second book in the series is even better than the first, and I loved the first one. I was pulled right back into their world from the opening line and did not put it down until I had finished the last page, which was good and bad since I wanted more and didn't savor at all. These are characters that pull at your heart because they seem so lost but are trying so hard to make things right for themselves and others. The plot could be done with or without shifters because its a situation that almost anyone could find themselves in. Chace betrayed Skylar by turning her over to a dragon not knowing whether she would live or die, he gave up his magic because he wanted to be human, now he is clinging to life so that Skylar will not go down with him. Chace has been selfish for more than a thousand years but is starting to see that it is no way to live and all he wants is to find Skylar and make it up to her. Skylar is being held by her father and trying to continue hating Chace but misses him and is totally conflicted. When Skylar gets away from her father she goes back to the slayers but finds that what she has been told may be true. With Dillon losing his hold on reality and Mason acting strange she may not have any choice but to trust the man who betrayed her. A war that has been raging among the shifters for thousands of years is being revived and she finds herself in the middle. Will she protect her shifters or go back to the slayers who have been killing them? This is a fantastic trilogy and I am going to hate to see it end, but all good thing must. If you haven't tried it yet now is the time. Hot sex, hot shifters, great story, great characters and a romance that will make you cry.

Whew! so amazing! I'd say this book is even BETTER then book 1. Charred Heart helped us get to know the characters but Charred Tears developped their personalities and character by leaps and bounds. I love the love/hate relationship between Sky and Chace. It keeps things interesting and unpredictable. In Charred Tears we start understanding the true motives of what is really going on in the shifter community and exactly what each side is after. While we still are unsure of what Mason's intentions are, they certainly seem more in allegiance with Chace and Gavin then they are with Dillon. We won't know what Mason's true intentions are until Charred Hope I imagine though. There's still so much unknown but every new tidbit of information we learn about Sky's plight makes me love this series more and more. The relationship between Chace and Sky is core to this series. They are trying to discover and get to know each other as well as themselves. There is so much drawing them together but because they didn't see that draw until huge mistakes had been made, they have made the struggle at hand that much harder. Chace's magic is still unattainable and he needs Sky to help him with that. He's still just as stubborn as before he lost his magic but at least he's now learning to be less selfish. Will Sky realize that she needs to accept him too? Can't wait for Book 3....Charred Hope

Okay, I’m officially addicted to this series. Charred Tears is the second book in the Heart of Fire series. It picked up right where the first book left off, not missing a beat. The world really grew in this one. The shifters and relationships, more clear. Ford did a fantastic job laying out the details and back story without slowing down the storyline. Everything flowed so well. So much happened in this segment. Secrets were revealed. There were some fantastic twists. I’m literally itching to find out how it’s all going to play out.I’m still struggling with Chace. I don’t really like him all that much, not even in a ‘love to hate him’ kind of way. I’d be perfectly content to see Sky walk away from him and never look back. He grew up a little in this book, but I just can’t shake the jerk-ish, selfish vibe he gave me from the first book. But maybe there’s still hope for him. Like I said, he did grow up a little.Hmmm ... What else can I say without spoiling anything? Oh, I loved the figurines. They were just perfect.Overall, Charred Tears was a great read, even if I still don’t like Chace. There’s lots of action and it kept me guessing. If you haven’t checked out this series yet, then you should. I totally recommend it.

I liked the second book in this series but it didn't knock my socks off. First of all I have an enormous problem with Chace's language. He is a dragon, more than a thousand years old and probably fluent in many languages, yet he constantly only curses. I've read about other characters, thousands of years old and their language is worthly, their knowledge just floats out every time they open their mouth but Chace is only cursing and went from cold, arrogant and selfish to whining and self-pitying. It was disappointing. Sky got on my nerves quite a few times as well. She never thinks ahead, never analizes a situation and doesn't give two cents about consequences - she dashes into danger, always bragging that she can take care of herself, ends up in trouble and needs rescuing and then only yells and curses and is annoyed with everybody else. I get that she has trust issues - she was brainwashed for years and Chace used her badly - but either get a grip and be willing to face it or back off completely. Don't screw him, kiss him and spend every day with him while trying to convince the reader that trusting is so impossible.

The 2nd book in this series. Dragons :) oh Dragons make me smile. Moody, bossy, selfish, and ever so domineering. So imagine when Chace has lost his magic and the love of his life is in mortal danger. Though I like the moral and trials of this story. The trust me or not trust me tug and pull between Chace and Skylar got a little annoying. Every time you thought maybe they'd worked things out. Sky would suddenly remember Chace betrayed her. I know I know, all part of the story! But with steamy heart moving love scenes in between the rift seems too unrealistic. It wasn't bad enough to deter me from reading. I was enthralled as always. The finale in the end kept me on the edge of my seat. A battle between shifters. Griffins, Dragons, Lions, Panthers! Wow...the action and thrill did not disappoint. I even said out loud "Noooo! You can't leave me hanging like that!?" I am too ansty for the release of Charred Hope! I have to know...does Chace get his magic back? Is the King, Gavin really dead? What does Mason show Skylar of her mother? Is Sky's mom alive? Aaaaah~! I am counting the days!!!!!!

Charred Tears picks up right where Charred Heart left off. And I got to say I was sucked in from page one. While the heat factor is less in this book, there is more of the world exposed in this installment. I was glad Chace’s character grew, but was disappointed that Sky seemed stuck. There was no growth for her. At times I wanted to yell at her to pull up her big girl panties and deal with the poo. Gunner was a breath of fresh air. Love his sense of humor and tell it like it is mentality. Chace’s idea of a pillowcase being first aid was freaking funny, and all the oranges! For Reals, I hope the magic cabin gets it’s spunk back. I can’t wait to see what happens next when Sky is in the questionable hands of Mason and his lot. Grab the book, a warm blanket and your beverage of choice then get lost in this ever developing world of shifters, slayers, and protector.

Charred Tears picks up right where Charred Hearts left off. Sky learns that Gavin is her Dad. She has so many questions. She is so conflicted on what to believe. You end up feeling sad for her being caught between two worlds filled with secrets and lies.Chace is determined to find Sky and fix the mess he made when he left her. He finds out that his life and Sky's life are tied together. If one dies so does the other. In this pat of the journey Sky learns that she has the ability to wake up shifters who had been put to sleep by the slayers. That can be a good or bad thing depending how you look at it.Will Sky forgive Chase for what he did? Will Gavin learn to tolerate Chace? That is just a couple of questions you will get answered in this book.Going to start book 3 in a few minutes. So many questions still to be answered.

lizzy ford is such a genious she is the only author i know who can write a book and have it published all in a few weeks. i like how much chase has grown up in this book i didnt think he would but it did take awhile... sky still does not fully trust him and i do not blame her. it will take alot for him to win eachothers trust.. everyone around sky lies to her it is hard for her to trust anyone.. she wishes she could save the slayers but she doesnt know if she can and in the end everyone keeps the secret from her about what they think happened to her mom... i hate that someone dies in the end. it is also amazing that sky finds all the sifters that went missing they were never dead and she finds out how to bring them back.... i really loved the book but hate cliffhangers... lizzy ford you were amazing

Nothing short of a Lizzy Ford Mind Blower. I loved Charred Tears a little more than Charred Hearts. Book 2 in the Heart of Fire series you see the characters come alive. Charred Heart was filled with Chace and Skylar's passion, but this book gets to the heart of their relationship. Chace is challenged in this book to fulfill the destiny he sacrificed to be human, and now he must face many obstacles and feelings of helplessness as a mortal. I have to admit from the start, I do not always like books that follow the same two lead charterers. I prefer series that mix things up, but this was a great follow up to the first book.Another book with loads of intrigue, surprising twists and turns, with plenty of smexy steam. I really like the lead characters, even dig their whole dynamic. The supporting characters gained more depth, Gavin and Mason. Oh boy, I have a new book boyfriend in Gunner!!!The only ugh moment, the book ends in a cliffhanger!!!!! Noooooooooooo!!!! Hurry with the next book Ms Ford!!!Disclosure - I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions and ratings are my own.

Chace discovers the curse he is under is not exactly what he thought it was. He is clearly regretting betraying Skye, and can’t fix things fast enough to start repairing the damage he’s done. Skye is figuring out that she’ll never truly sever the connection with Chace, but doesn’t trust him enough to really try to fix things yet. The war between the shifters is only just getting started and Skye is not confident which side she really belongs on. She still hasn’t regained all her memories, she remembers Mason being there with her and to support her over the last few years and relies on that more for now. I am not disappointed in this second book in the series, and definitely don’t want to wait for the third. Lizzy Ford definitely writes shifter stories very well!

For me, this series just keeps getting better and better. It definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for what may happen next. This book wasn't as much about sex,sex and more sex as the last one was. Not to say there isn't some of that too. THis was more about trying to earn trust back and figuring out who Sky is. I have a feeling that in the next book there is going to be even MORE suprises and I can't wait. I still love Chace but it is nice in a way to see him as more vulnerable in this book. This book is definitely a A plus. Not many books work at my emotions but this one just had a way about it that I couldn't help myself.

Dragons, griffins, and Pegasus oh my...This one starts where the other left off. Sky is remembering more of her childhood and finds out her father his the head Dragon. She is told Chace is dead but he is severely injured and is no longer magically. Skylar figures out what being a protector means and sets out to release all the little figurines in Calebs house while being hunted by her own people. Skylar doesn't trust Chace so he must prove himself after betraying her and get his powers back to save her.Loved it can't wait for the next book!!!!! If you enjoy shifters and other magical creatures read this, you won't be disappointed but read CHARRED HEART first..

Still not greatI was not completely happy with the first book nor this one. I like good ol steamy sex scenes, but a lot of times it took over the book. In addition, Chase grows as a character. Yet, Skylar is portrayed as a scorned b**ch and very whiney. I bought this book in hopes things would get better. The storyline itself is great, but there is no real meat to the story. I have not decided to read the next book, but I hate not knowing an ending, but in this instance I just may forgo the ending; particularly for a $2.99 price tag.
