I'm not really a reader of this type of fiction, but I received it in Goodreads First Reads as a giveaway and wanted to look at it objectively.First, I really liked the exotic and historical setting, which is why I entered for it to begin with. The author does a good job of creating a unique story and setting the backdrop of an ancient world and makes sure that historical information isn't just completely shirked aside, but rather is sprinkled in 'lightly' as to not overwhelm. Second, the author maintains a well blended balance of romance, erotica, and storyline. I admit I was pleasantly surprised at the main character's resolve and stubborn strength, as I judged her a bit too early as a total dipsy push-over. As someone who generally stays away from this genre, I can say that this was an easy and pleasant read.
