Reviewed on Lili Lost in a BookBack in town, some guy stumbles into the Candle Shoppe, frantic. He comes up to Mel and tells her that someone is out to get him, that someone wants to kill him. And then, suddenly, he drops dead... Literally. Detective Shorts once again tells Mel to stay out of it... But does she listen? Of course not, she's Mel! Haha. She feels compelled to unravel this mystery. I mean, this guy specifically sought her out, that's strange in and of itself, so yeah this piqued her interest. She soon finds herself immersed in an urban legend about a ghost named Smiley that, if you see him, you'll find yourself facing imminent death. This book was so much fun, not surprisingly! I especially loved Tiny! He is one of the most awesome characters ever! The nature of the murder was very interesting and intriguing and I could not wait to find out what the heck was going on... which is why I finished reading it in one sitting :)I am officially addicted to this series! I Love that it's so fun and lighthearted and super short, yet mysterious and suspenseful!

This book has the possibilities of being a cute series. In fact, it is part of a series...#7! As such, I really didn't care for all the allusions to the past, especially with Mellow and the police detective. Read on my Kindle.

Too cute, no mysteryToo cute, no mysteryIt never claimed I would be scared but c'mon, this plot was so thin and the characters so two dimensional! Sixth grade essays have more depth. And don't get me started on the ghost. Cutesy and pathetic at the same time.

Couldn't finish. Seems to have been written for the very young

This book is Very poorly written. It contains bad spelling, bad grammar, no real plot, and very shallow characters. I had to quit reading because I was so frustrated with the book.

I'll admit it. I read the book because of its hokey title. This was number seven in a series, so there were a lot of character relationships I had to guess at, but they were mostly so obvious the author really didn't need to describe much, I.e., big guy runs a gas station, he and his buddies all ride motorcycles and are willing to step on anyone who causes trouble for his friend - his name is "Tiny". Right. The main character's name is MELLOW Summers. Really? This book had me chuckling from the start. An older, wackier Nancy Drew, this book is perfect for my grade school granddaughter.Considering the probable target audience, I give this book a solid 4 stars.

Really?Mellow is a delightful character although I wouldn't want to be her boss or have too many employees like her. She's undisciplined but is persistent. Of course you have to believe one can talk to ghosts, which frankly could be scary. It was a bit predictable and contrived, but I enjoyed the story. I was willing to enter and enjoy Mellow's world. I would probably do it again.

Ms. McNutly is a good storyteller and this story is a perfect example to sample. That said, there is a severe absense of sound editing. There are instances of using the incorrect personal pronoun as well as other repeated errors. I'd encourage this author to keep writing and find a good editor.

A very (very) cozy paranormal mystery that's quite enjoyable if you totally suspend your disbelief. Think Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden here. The book needs a good line editor, but it's still fun. 3.5 stars

This is the first of the series that I have read and I will be sure to read the rest. There was so much adventure and intrigue that I could not put it down. This story was well done and a fun to read.

Mel Summers sees ghosts. A man seeks her out because he thinks a ghost is trying to kill him and drops dead at her feet. She thinks it is more than a coincidence and despite being warned away by the local police she still investigates.
