The Road Beneath Me Reviews
Kate Swan is thrown out of her home in Whitby after she refuses her domineering father’s demands that she obey him by marrying a man she despises. Meanwhile in Shetland, Malcolm McFadden is heir to the Garstan Estate, and is having disagreements with his father too over the land. Malcom also proposes that he will marry Rowena Murray, but she is having second thoughts, and so Malcom leaves Shetland. Malcolm runs into Kate and there is an instant attraction, but events mean that Malcolm has to return home to Shetland, vanishing without a trace. Will Kate ever see him again? And will love and determination see her through?Jessica Blair has written a compelling saga – it is not something I would have picked up of my own accord off a shelf in a shop, but regardless of this, I quite enjoyed the story.I liked the settings in the book, I’ve been to Whitby and the surrounding areas on holiday before so this was particularly interesting to me, and I think I enjoyed the story that bit more because of it. The descriptions of both the settings and the scenes were very well written and I was able to picture the storyline in my mind. The Road Beneath Me is a tale full of emotion, difficulties, hope, romance and love, with some sadness but also some happiness in there too. This is an impressive book which fans of historical fiction will enjoy.
Not the best book. very obvious how it would end. I really only finished it to see whether there would be a twist but there wasn't/ -not recommended-
a bit naff.
