Reviewed for Hearts On Fire ReviewsAs always with an anthology, there are some I like better than others. These are pretty even for me because they are connected by the theme of sweetness, something I love to read about. The Best Thing on Eight Wheels Rated 4 The roller rink has been in Troy’s family for generations and it’s been a struggle to keep it afloat. It has always come first for Troy, sometimes (often) even before his love, Zane. It’s difficult to remember what is important when history and obligations are weighing you down. Troy knows something has to be done to show Zane who comes first. Especially when a huge part of Zane’s first step to accepting himself occurred at the rink years ago, with the borrowing of a pair of scissors from a cute boy. Troy does make things clear and it’s romantic and sweet. I liked this one.A Time Traveler’s Valentine Rated 3.5 Kabal is a time traveling cop and his boyfriend, Ish, is an archeologist. They can only meet up a few times a year in different times. This time is a little bit different and Ish doesn’t know how to handle the news he hears. These are not young men, Ish is 44 and Kabal nearing 50 and that was refreshing. I liked that only Ish sees Kabal how he really is. I wish there had been more descriptions of Ish – it is mentioned he has four arms! Tattoo Day Rated 4 Sean has his boyfriend, Nolan, meet him at the bar and even gives instructions that he will pay for Nolan’s drinks. Since Sean is a notorious cheapskate, “Sean never paid when he could help it”, Nolan knows something is going on. Sean has a plan and it is adorable. I loved the idea of the box, that was so clever. Nights Burned Up In Flame Rated 3 This was the weakest of the bunch for me. Jeremy and Bobby work opposite hours often and don’t get to see each other than in passing. When they finally have the time, it starts as a D/s scene but I didn’t really understand what was going on. Was Bobby hurt in the past? Traumatized? He seemed to sink really fast and then it’s a sweet moment but I was confused by what came before. . Dogged Rated 4 This was so cute, with two grown men chasing after dogs, shouting “Muffin!” and “Biscuit!”. Made me smile and the “Nana” lady with the homosexual grandson was so cute. This story is fluffy at its finest. Sold! Rated 4.5 Undoubtedly my favorite of the anthology. Phillip is a successful CEO who has been roped into participating in a bachelor auction by his very efficient assistant, Dennis. He considers it “the worst parts of slavery and prostitution crammed together and covered with a thin chocolate shell of respectability”. But he’s a good guy, so he’s doing it, with gritted teeth and a smile through it. Just like his first time. I am embarrassed to admit that I got the Chuck Woolery reference. The auction doesn’t start off well, with a one of the bachelors taking exception to a gay man participating. I absolutely loved Phillip’s response to him, two fingers indeed. Go, Phillip! You see where the story is going fairly early and that’s okay, it’s worth it. Cheesy, filthy lines “Full of yourself, aren’t you? I’d rather be full of you” caused me all kinds of happy. I loved this story and need to find more by this author.

3.75 StarsReview also posted on:Anthologies are always tricky to review. Individual stories meant to come together as one cohesive collection. A lot of times they fail but not with this set of stories. Some I loved and others were a good little distraction, but overall I enjoyed reading it. What follows is how I felt about each story. The Best Thing on Eight Wheels By D.K. Jernigan & K. Piet 4 Stars I really liked this short. It’s a snippet of time in the lives of Zane and Troy. Troy is left the family business to run and while working at the roller skating rink is something he’s always done, running it alone is something completely different. Zane has been patient with Troy and the hours he works but it’s taking a toll on him and he’s becoming tired of being alone. Troy see’s what has been happening and plans a very special night for Zane at the rink. This story was sweet and romantic. Troy and Zane work well together, even in such a short story I felt the love between them. Well done.A Time Traveler’s Valentine By Blaine D. Arden 3 starsI loved the idea of this short, a paranormal with a time travel twist. Kabal is a time travelling cop who has been in a relationship with Ish for 10 years, this story is about their tenth anniversary. These two only see each other twice a year but are faithful to one another. That’s love and I got that but something was missing. I needed and wanted more I felt like I was reading an excerpt not a short story, adding to this can only make it better. Tattoo Day by Raven de Hart 3 starsThis was a cute little story about Nolan and Sean told in Nolan’s POV. Sean plans a special day for Nolan. He has Nolan meet him at a bar, Nolan’s nervous unsure of what Sean is up too. The interaction between the two at the bar was sweet and funny. Their special day turns into something romantic and steamy hot. Yup, I could get on board with more of these two!Night Burned Up in Flames by Emily Moreton 3.5 starsThis story was hot but very tender. I really liked this one and wanted so badly to be able to say I loved it but as I got closer to the end it started to bother me when I realized I wouldn’t find out why Bobby reacted to sex the way he did. I really wanted to know what happened to this sweet guy. What I did come away with from this story is unconditional love between two very sexy men. I definitely want Bobby and Jeremy’s full story.Dogged by D.K. Jernigan 4 StarsA smexy story about Anton and Thomas, who’ve been eyeing each other at the dog park. A lot of fantasizing has been going on but little else. Luckily for them their babies Muffin and Biscuit make that problem go away. What enfolds is a very quick first date followed by a quick sexy afternoon with a promise of more. Loved this one, more please!Sold by Erik Moore 4.5 StarsI loved, loved, loved this short! Somehow this author was able to write a short story that felt complete. By that I mean there is a beginning, where I’m introduced to Philip and Dennis and connected with them immediately, a middle that had me wondering where the story was headed and an end that I have no problem calling an HEA. It’s funny and sexy, who could ask for more....well actually I could! Very well done!
