I won this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy on the condition that I give a fair and unbiased reviewI will start by saying that I was disappointed that this was not a complete work. I'm still getting used to authors releasing books in a serialized format... i.e. wool & Silo. Having said that though, I will say that I like what I've seen so far. I'm drawn to stories with a mystical bent and this one has definitely peaked my interest.I have enjoyed the descriptive way the scenes have been set. The dichotomy between the protagonist's modern, independent, lifestyle in the north and the enveloping, somewhat smothering feel of family in the south. To be honest, I felt like I could taste the atmosphere when Carter was describing North Carolina... it reminded me of parts of Houma, Louisiana.Anyhow, the story is dealing out more mystery than witchery right now... but I like where it's going.
