Galen & the Prince Reviews
Ok, so um, I don't know...I...just, no.(view spoiler)[I hate giving a bad review, but I can't help it this time. Honestly, after the first paragraph I was shaking my head thinking, what am I doing...and then about 30% in I wasn't really sure where the book was going. All the talk of the villain 'Sento' the sorcerer, and him raping little boys and what not...(all with juvenile writing style and dialogue) should have made me put the book down, but I hate not finishing something that I have started...I'm a sucker for punishment. It also baffles me in some books, where a person however many hundreds or thousands of years old, is drawn to the mewling teenager. In this case, a three thousand year old hero of the story, Darne, who is basically forcing himself on the heroine (yes I know he's a boy but he comes off as angst ridden teenage girl...I'm sorry lol) a confused 15 year old virgin boy, Galen. I'm also confused as to the age focus for this, because it reads to me like a young adult book, but with all the sex and explicit scenes, it can't possibly be, can it? Sample from book..."Uh, I only just met Darne, he's sorta been good to me these days, and stuff are happening, I don't know exactly what to make of it, and I feel ok around him, and I was in trouble when he found me, and the bad guy is still after me, he says the bad man will get me, and stuff is happening, with us, and I really don't know what to think of it, cause, it's Darne, and sometimes I feel like I'm being used, and sometimes I feel like it's, just simply ok. And before you guys came out, he told me he likes me." Galen smiled at the ending.I don't know...If you focus on the story of two people finding each other and slowly falling in love, without all the rapeyness feeling to it, I'm sure it would be lovely. The author could have taken the premise and built something pretty amazing out of it... The main character Galen, who is 19 or something, whines as though he's a five year old. Seriously, saying 'I hate your friends' while said friends are standing RIGHT THERE is stupid and immature. Way to ensure they hate your guts, mate. And the way he spoke to the King and Queen? Are you retarded? They could zap you into oblivion. The other thing that bugged me was how the perspective would skip from Galen to Darne in the middle of a paragraph, then suddenly back to Galen again. It was confusing and gave me whiplash. It made me put the book down halfway for a few hours. Finally (view spoiler)[Why the hell two powerful men are after this kid is beyond me. (hide spoiler)] The tiny part of me that kind of wants to know what the deal is with the sorcerer, Sento, is violently overwhelmed by the writing style. Honestly, it felt like a first draft. There was little world-building, and apart from some hints of depth from the two main characters, the rest were 2 dimensional. That being said, with a lot of fine-tuning and decent editing this could still be a decent read. If the author releases an updated version, I would be willing to give it another go. The idea was good, but the execution had a lot of problems.
No. nononononono...*shakes head*
