4 stars!!While this was a sweet and predictable story, Promise Me This ended up being a book that I didn’t know I needed – likable main characters, fun & flirty plotline, and smoking hot sex scenes. After just finishing a highly emotional series I craved something lighthearted that would give me a couple of hours of mindless fun and this book did just that.*****************************Nate Connorsis the campus playboy with little to give and much to hide. Having grown up in an abusive household and a first-hand witness to the physical and emotional damage violence has, Nate suppresses his dark, kinky bedroom tastes and distances himself from everyone, especially women. Jessie Walters is a sassy, carefree woman working at a tattoo shop and one of Nate’s friends. As part of her photography hobby and school assignment, she gets Nate to take her to visit some bridges for her photo shots, and her friendship with Nate starts to change. She’s always been able to tell there’s more to him than just this uncaring bad boy façade and when he opens up about her heartbreaking family dynamics, she doesn’t judge him or shun him. Having always been attracted to each other but never acting on it, Nate and Jessie’s little trip together forces them to realize just how strong their connection is. This author is not only brilliant with the dirty talking and smokin’ hot sex scenes but she’s also good at portraying the buildup and the foreplay, the tiny little details that make me sigh in contentment and swoon at the simplicity of a description.*****************************This book is a very character-driven story with a predictable friends-to-lovers plotline. There were a few 3.5 star moments when I thought the writing was a bit repetitive in both POVs and there were a few 4.5 star moments in regards to the emotional scenes where both characters open up. I enjoyed this book for what it was worth and while there wasn’t anything major I had to complain about, there wasn’t any part that wowed me either so I’m giving it 4 stars. Promise Me This is the 4th book in the Between Breaths series and can be read as a standalone. I’ve read this entire series out of order and had no problem following the storylines. If you’re in the mood for a fun, hot and lighthearted feel-good romance this is a good pick!ARC provided by Penguin Intermix via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 StarsPromise Me This was my favorite in the Between Breaths series. Jessica and Nate’s friends-to-lovers romance was full of heart and fiery hot intensity! Instead of being filled with angst and drama, Promise Me This was filled with realistic emotions and reactions, setting it apart from many New Adult reads out there.Jess and Nate are friends, first and foremost, and that’s exactly the way Nate wants to keep it. He’s afraid of getting close romantically with any girl because of witnessing the longtime abuse his dad has inflicted on his mother. He’s terrified of becoming him. Nate does hookups only; never with the same girl twice and never with any emotional connection. But things are about to change when Nate and Jess suddenly see each other in a new light. Going on a road trip for Jess’s photo project forces them into close quarters and in the process they each share emotionally while their physical attraction goes from simmering to blazing, and then to irresistible. Soon Nate’s harmless attraction to Jess becomes a full on need to be with her, and he’s terrified. Jess has never looked at Nate in a sexual way, he’s always seemed to straight laced and “Square” to her, but walking in on him while he’s pushed up against some girl shines a completely different light on him. And she is intrigued! Jess realizes Nate’s been hiding his true self under a calm, carefree façade, when really, there’s a powerful intensity to him. Their road trip brings them closer than ever and Jess can understand why Nate has such issues, but can she ride the storm he’s going through while he confronts his demons? He goes hot and cold struggling with his desire for her, giving in and then regretting it. I was worried when I read the synopsis that I’d be frustrated with Nate’s constant hot and cold feelings towards Jess, but it wasn’t that way at all. He didn’t completely shut Jess out when he struggled with his feelings, instead he confided in her, and took action by seeking professional help. I love it when there’s reasonable actions and thinking in characters! I get very frustrated when a couple has issues because they shut each other out. Not so here. Jess is just as reasonable. While some of the guilt and turmoil Nate experiences after being with Jess hurts her, she is patient and understanding. She doesn’t stew over it or give ultimatums, but she’s not a doormat either. Jess was firm without pressuring Nate, assuring him that she’d be there as his friend, but she wasn’t going to nag him to let go and let her in. Part of the struggle is that Nate wants to be dominant in the bedroom, likes to be in control, likes it a little rough, but then feels completely ashamed and worried those desires doom him to turn out like his farther if he gives into them. Figuring out that what happens by mutual consent is completely different from the abuse his dad heaped on his mother is tough. In spite of all these struggles, Nate and Jess’ romance was filled with sexual tension and steamy scenes! I think this was the hottest book in the series! Very, very HOT! I loved the realistic progression of this romance and the fact I could easily put myself in either Jess or Nate’s shoes. Christina Lee’s talented writing shines through in Promise Me This and she did a fabulous job at creating multi-layered characters with true-to-life emotions and struggles. 4 Pushing the boundaries StarsPromise Me This was a little different from the previous books in the series. I felt like Christina Lee pushed the story a bit and it went the right direction.NateNate is a player and he’s known to never bed the same girl twice. He also has daddy issues and a somewhat dark past. He doesn’t want to go off the deep end and works very hard to keep his control in check. I liked Nate. He’s the typical bad boy we love to read and yes at times I felt certain things were blown out of the water, but other than that, he’s a character you can learn to love and understand.JessieJessie is the opposite of rich Nate. She has tattoos, she colors her hair all the time and she likes the bad boys with gauges and are rough around the edges. She’s had her eye on Nate, but doesn’t want to do anything with him because of his reputation with girls. Jessie is not your typical bad girl and that’s a good thing. Sometimes when the Heroine is too strong, it can be a turn off for me, but I really enjoyed reading Jessie.OverallNate and Jessie go on a road trip to take pictures of bridges. I really like this and through there mini road trip they kind of form a relationship. This is not the entire story, but just a tiny part of it. You can really see how Christina Lee builds up the relationship and there’s plenty of character development. However, Nate comes from a broken home and an abusive father and he doesn’t want to become that. Nate works hard in keeping his anger in check, but when he enjoys the darker side of sex, it confuses him.The guy likes it a little rough and kinky in bed and thinks it’s bad. Now, I read a lot of dark books, so to me Nate is very tamed, but I know a lot of readers who will be on par with this. Jessie is my kind of girl in the sense she isn’t timid or shy around Nate and all she wants to do is take photos.Promise Me This was such an easy read overall was enjoyable. I would have liked it darker, but I’m not sure everyone is up to my kind of dark reads. If you are a fan of the series you will not be disappointed. Can be read as a stand-alone.High angst.Sweet romance.Lovable characters.Steamy sex.'Promise Me This' is just as good as the other books in it's series. It's an easy to read with all the elements you want in a New Adult book.I really enjoyed the role reversal. The tatted, rough and ready chick & the rich, polished, square guy.The drive for the angst was that both the characters 'pasts' concentrated on their experiences with their fathers. We were told how they've changed as a person because of them. For me, the 'past' was sometimes overtold in the inner-monologue and I could have done without.I also liked the mini road trip, the feeling of exploring a whole new experience with one another, and the girl coaxing the guy out of his heavily battered shell. If you loved the other books in the series, then you'll like this too.

I loved this book! Jessie and Nate are opposites. Nate is a clean-cut guy from a wealthy family. Jessie doesn't come from money, she's got tattoo's and blue hair. As opposite as the two of these characters are, when they get together their chemistry is amazing. The sexual tension between them is off the charts sexy and there is definitely some very hot steamy scenes in this book. I loved Jessie - she's smart, strong and knows what she wants. Nate is very sweet and has been keeping some family secrets that are really messing with his head. I could not put this book down, it is fantastic. Just the right amount of angst. This is the first book I have read by Christina Lee and I can't wait to read more! I have not read the other books in this series but can't wait to go back and read them - I really enjoyed this author's writing style and loved this book! Highly recommend to anyone who loves a sexy romance! **ARC provided in exchange for an honest review**

Can Jessie be the light that Nate needs?Promise Me This by Christina Lee was a New Adult book that surprised me in that Ms. Lee made Nate and Jessie’s sexcapades steamy. I have always been a big fan of friends to lover story-line but I love the added element of how the heroine helped the hero. Jessie was the driving force to allow Nate to face his fears and acknowledge the connection between them. So if you are looking for a book that had romance, sexiness, and with emotional complex characters then go read Promise Me This. Christina Lee

I've had a bit of a Christina Lee fest and the thing I love, is her characters. They are so well developed. I love the way the characters mix through the books. I'm thinking of making a family tree so I can track them all. Hint. Hint Christina put one in the front of the next book. Emile Zola did one when he got so far through his Rougon Macquart series, and he was a pretty special writer. In Promise Me This we get Nate's story. Please, please don't tell Bennett but I think he is my new favourite Lee-boy.He is a perfect son, a great friend, sexy and passionate and as you would expect he has issues that he has built into a monster. Talking of monsters, that's what he tells Jessie he keeps in his trousers."You're living up to your nickname," she said with a wink. And quite possibly just then, I might have seen a flash of disappointment in her eyes. "Too bad for that monster you say lives in your pants."Jessie - tattooed, blue haired, photographer. "There was something raw about Jessie, unrestrained and empowering, so unlike the girls I normally hooked up with. It turned me on - and scared the shit out of me at the same time."She is a perfect role model. She lost her dad but lives her life by the ethics he instilled in her. "Jessie, promise me this: Explore all the different sides of you. We all have darkness and brightness inside of us. You won't know exactly what you're made of until you embrace all of it, feel it, live it. Only then will you be able to face all that life has to offer, head-on."The story flows perfectly. Friends, to ignition of feelings, to tempting situation, to resistance, to resolution. The developing of the relationship is done really well, with the sexual tension building - made me blush (I think that is why Nate is my new favourite)."The need in her eyes turned into unadulterated hunger and fueled that inner part of me that I was trying desperately to ignore. It was like she was light to my darkness. The key to my enclosure."I have read the books out of order but it really doesn't matter. It made me smile to read about Cory because I know good stuff is around the corner waiting for him.My favourite quotes:"Let me be your moon - so that every night, I can illuminate the lonely cavern of your soul.""Let me be your sun - so when I burn out each night, you can be the breath and the beacon that leads me home."Loved it. I've totally caught up now ready for the next release.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: Very steamy romance that will pull at your heartstrings. I have really enjoyed this entire series and would recommend it to all New Adult contemporary fans!Opening Sentence: I backed the brunette against the wall, my lips at her neck. The Review:Nate is quite the player when it comes to beautiful women. It’s not that he wouldn’t like to be in a relationship, but he doesn’t trust himself in one. His father was very abusive to his mother and Nate recognizes some of the same demons in himself. The only time he ever had a girlfriend was in high school and there was one night where things got a little out of control. Ever sense, Nate has always held certain parts of himself in check and that means never letting anyone get too close. But there is one girl he can’t seem to help but want to get close to and her name is Jessie.Jessie is a beautiful girl who works in a tattoo parlor. She has crazy colored hair and tattoos all over her body. She has always dated a certain type of guy that is similar to her, but that hasn’t really worked out so well for her. Her and Nate have been friends for a while now and they always have a good time teasing each other. Jessie knows that Nate is not her type because he comes from a wealthy family and wears polo shirts. But one night Jessie walks in on Nate with another girl and it sparks an interest inside Jessie that she never expected. She knows that Nate is a player, but she can’t help being attracted him. They may be polar opposites in many ways, but there is no denying there is something between them that could be really great if they would both give it a chance.Jessie was such a great character. She has a witty personality and she doesn’t care what other people think about her. She does what she wants and she is always very honest about how she feels. She currently works at a tattoo parlor, but she is also going to school so she can become a photographer like her father. She grew up in a very loving family, but her father passed away suddenly a few years ago and that has been really hard for her to deal with. I loved how open she was with Nate about her past and she never judges him. She is one of those people that is easy to talk to and it’s pretty much impossible not to love her.Nate is such a great guy and I really felt for him and the situation he found himself in. Growing up in an abusive home affects everyone differently and it always leaves some type of scar. Watching as he struggled with all of his personal demons was really hard, but also inspiring. He doesn’t deal with everything perfectly, but at least he tries to do the right thing to the best of his ability. He wants to be a better person then his father even though he feels that he has a lot of the same weaknesses, and I really respected that about him. His relationship with Jessie is very hot, but they also complement each other extremely well. I loved how they could talk about anything and make each other laugh. It was a sweet romance and developed at a great pace. Overall, I thought that Nate was a great character and I enjoyed reading his story.Promise Me This is a sexy story that tugs at your heartstrings. The character development was great and the pacing was perfect, but the story was a little forgettable. I read this about a week ago and I am having a hard time remembering everything that happened, but I do remember enjoying it while I was reading it. The romance was very steamy and well written. I was surprised by the fact that this was slightly more erotic then the rest of the books in the series, but it worked really well with the issues that were covered. I would actually recommend this to anyone that wants to try erotic romance, but doesn’t want to jump right into a full blown erotic book. This story just slightly scratched the surface of that genre and gives you a little taste of what you can expect from that type of book. I have read all the books in this series and I have enjoyed each one of them immensely. I think that Lee does a wonderful job writing stories that are full of raw emotions and lots of steamy moments. Overall, this was an entertaining, quick read that all new adult contemporary romance fans will really enjoy!Notable Scene:Nate laughed and clapped Bennett on the back, reminding me of how alive and unreserved he was in every other way. With his friends and his sense of humor he lived out in the open—even with his daredevil antics, how he always talked about his next rock-climbing or snowboarding adventure—but there was that one area in his life that was most cryptic.I’d just figured he was immature, given too much too early from his wealthy family. But tonight in the bathroom, I saw a flash of something different. Something that resembled a deep ache—an unfulfilled longing in his face—a split second before he’d pushed that girl away. It was there. I knew I hadn’t imagined it.Regardless, Nate was way too straight-laced for me with his perfectly tailored jeans and buttondown shirts, even if they did hug his muscles in all the right places. And the girls he spent his time with probably all looked the same—privileged and gorgeous.I liked at least a little gravity to the guys I dated, so I never paid Nate much attention beyond our easy and playful friendship. But tonight I’d admit it was the first time I could picture myself up against that sink, with his hot lips against my neck.FTC Advisory: Intermix/Penguin provided me with a copy of Promise Me This. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

"Give it all to me," she murmured in my ear. "The wild and the sweet, the light and the dark. Because I need them both."All the feels people! I have ALL THE FEELS right now over this book! I really loved Nate and Jessie together and their story is one filled with hope and the promise for something better. The two couldn't be more different- she is artistic with her tattoos and love for photography, where Nate is built like an athlete and fits the preppy, frat boy image. The tension between them has been simmering for quite some time, but it's only now that they start to see each other for more.Jessie knows Nate is a playboy, never hooking up with the same girl twice, but to accidentally walk in on him kissing another girl and actually see him in action, makes her see him in a completely different light. She can tell he is holding back, that there is a wildness brewing beneath the surface that is desperately trying to break free. Nate has always been interested in Jessie, but feels they have too good and easy of a friendship and the last thing he wants is to destroy that by showing her who he really is. An overnight trip to Nate's hometown changes everything between them, as they get to know each other better, and slowly start to reveal parts of themselves they never dreamed they would.I really liked watching Jessie and Nate get to know one another in this book. They have been friends sure, but they really didn't KNOW one another. Jessie always assumed Nate lived this privileged wealthy life, but in reality, she couldn't have been more wrong. Nate is terrified of becoming like his abusive father, and therefore never lets himself go the way he longs to when he's with another woman. He feels shame by his darker sexual desires, as he never wants to hurt a woman like his father has hurt his mother. He doesn't see that there is a difference between the two, especially if it is a consensual experience. Jessie isn't afraid of this 'darkness' as Nate would call it. It's quite the opposite. She likes the things Nate does to her and likes his dominance in bed. He is too caught up in believing the worst about himself, that he completely misses that she is granting him the one thing he is too afraid to seek out but desperately needs- acceptance.Jessie was such a great character and such an amazing support for Nate. He can't get past his demons and is too afraid to drag her down with him. Even when he pushes her away, she is still there for him as a friend, encouraging him to seek professional help to heal the emotional scars his father has left him with. Until Nate finds his own acceptance and realizes that he is nothing like his father, he will never be able to move forward to pursue a deeper relationship with Jessie.I have to talk about the kissing in this book. I loved it! So many people underestimate the effect of a really good kiss, but Christina nails it. Jessie and Nate kissing was so incredibly hot, passionate, and INTENSE! I loved their scenes together because there is so much underlying tension between them that they won't be able to deny for long. The result is explosive and I like that they don't hold back with one another.I really like that Christina makes family an important aspect of this book. Not only do we see Nate's problems with his father, but we see the shell of a woman his mother has become, and how his brother Luke is changing- and not for the better. Nate loves his mother dearly and is heartbroken over her situation, wanting nothing more than to see her shine with happiness again. We also get to see Jessie interact with her mother, and their dynamic is totally different. Her mother is supportive and wants the best for her, but also warns her to be careful with her heart. She is a good woman and I love that she reaches out to Nate's mom. Jessie's memories of her father are pivotal in this book, as he has made a great impact on her life and what she wants to do with her future. He not only impacts Jessie, but his words leave quite the impact on Nate as well.I always enjoy Christina Lee's writing, so it's no surprise I also enjoyed this book. I am a huge fan of the series, so it was nice to see Avery, Bennett, Ella, Quinn, Rachel, and Kai again. I am quite curious as to whether Jessie's friend, Emmy, will get a book of her own in the future. Fingers crossed!*Received a copy of this book via the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.*

Nate has a reputation on campus for being a love them and leave them kind of guy. He doesn’t kiss, it’s to intimidate, commitment, no way. A quick hook up with never a repeat performance is all the women get from him. It’s not that he doesn’t respect women, it’s that he doesn't trust himself. Nate comes from a violent family life so he fears that he too will be prone to abusive behavior. Nate has a secret he can never reveal urges that he forces himself to suppress. However, one girl makes him want more.Jessie is a strong, independent girl; she is putting herself through college working at a tattoo parlor. Even though he should stay away, Nate cannot stop himself from wanting to be around Jessie. They keep things strictly in the friend’s zone. It does not take long for Jessie and Nate to admit they want to try it at more than just friends. They are definitely attracted to each other; they can be themselves with each other. Their easy friendship makes it seem so simple. Will Nate’s secrets and his lack of trust in himself stop him from having the life he wants and the girl of his dreams? Christina Lee is truly a genius at New Adult Romance. I was in love with Nate from the minute I read his first words; he had me falling for his preppy charm. His demons haunt him as he is trying to find his way in the world. Raised by an abusive father, he is concerned; he will turn out like him. Nate has sexual urges of dominance that he does not want to express fully. He is terrified that they make him as abusive as his father. Therefore, he suppresses his dominant feelings and only lets a little show when he finds a willing one-night stand. However, in his heart and soul, he craves something more, something he thinks he can never have. Then one day Jessie notices him in a way she never did before after accidentally walking in on him in a compromising position in a bar bathroom. Jessie always thought of Nate as a poor little rich boy. Sure, he was hot, but not really her type. She usually went for the tatted up bad boys. When she walked into the bathroom bar and spotted Nate with a girl pushed up against a sink in a very not so boy next-door kind of way, Jessie saw Nate in a completely new light one she found herself desperate to explore further. They had been friends lightly flirting and busting on each other. Never did either one of them think the other could be interested. An opportunity, throws them together and they get to each other. I loved how the two characters found more and more out about each other as the book progressed. The first sexual encounter when Nate lets some of his dominance show was hot! Hot! The second sex scene is even steamier; with each experience, Jessie and Nate grow closer and closer. The BDSM experimentation well written and well thought out. A chapter that is my favorite is when they both realize without saying it to each that they were making love and not just having sex, my heart just about melted it was a hot and tender scene all at once. I could not help but root for this couple as I read each page. Nate’s relationship with his dysfunctional family is heart wrenching had me angry for him and then crying for him and his brother. Jessie’s close-knit family in comparison made for a deeper story. "Promise me this, explore all the different sides of you. We all have darkness and brightness inside of us. You won't know exactly what you're made of until you embrace all of it, feel it, live it. Only then will you be able to face all that life has to offer, head-on."This statement really expresses exactly what the whole book was about and it truly touched my heart.I love Christina Lee’s writing, she has become my favorite New Adult writer and I cannot wait to dive into one of her other books. This is the fourth in the series, but the second book in this series I have read; you do not have to read the books in order to follow the stories. Each couple has their own story if you want to know how the background characters got together, you can easily go back and read a book without feeling confused or lost. I was also excited to read the sneak peek of Dakota and Shane’s story characters from Whisper To Me book three in this series cannot wait for that one.I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

3.5/5 StarsThis review and many others can be found on my blog - Feed Your Fiction AddictionPromise Me This was another strong book in the Between Breaths series. This book focuses on Jessie and Nate (who were featured briefly in the last book). The synopsis summarizes the book relatively well, so I’ll skip straight to my review. What I loved:Nate’s story. Nate has abuse in his background, and he doesn’t trust himself to get close to anyone , so he’s avoided relationships. But he can’t fight his attraction to Jessie. At the same time, he fears the fact that he has urges toward dominance in the bedroom – in his mind, this might lead him to end up just like his abusive father. I could definitely understand where Nate was coming from with his fears. After all, a cycle of abuse is common, so it would be natural for anyone who’s suffered such abuse to be afraid of perpetuating that cycle. This is something that would often be on the person’s mind. Nate fears his darker side, and Jessie helps him face that.Family dynamics. Because of his father’s abuse, Nate’s entire family has suffered. His mother is submissive and has given up on the things that she enjoys and lost touch with the people who love her (Nate’s extended family). And then there’s Nate’s brother. Nate fears that his brother is ready to follow in his father’s footsteps, and it terrifies him. This fact also makes him that much more afraid that he might someday be like his father too. The fear and shame related to these types of family relationships felt very real to me.Jessie. I loved that Jessie is a strong, confident woman. She doesn’t originally think that Nate is her type, but she senses something a tiny bit darker in him, and she actually likes that. The relationship between Nate and Jessie was incredibly well-developed – it moved at a relatively slow pace, but I never got bored with waiting for them to find their way to each other because the relationship was always moving forward in some way.The negatives:Issues downplayed. The only thing that made me not love the book was that I felt like Nate’s issues were downplayed a little bit (even by Jessie) and then resolved a little too quickly. I get that Nate was reassured when he was told that his desire for dominance in the bedroom wasn’t related to wanting to dominate women in an abusive way, but I felt like his personal issues based on his past abuse actually did need to be explored more. (I kind of hope that Nate continues to get help in the future, after the book ends). I’m not saying that I think people who like dominance in the bedroom have issues, but in Nate’s case, I think he had a valid reason to fear this, and I think the link between his past and his urges could have been explored a little further. I also kind of had a little bit of an issue with the philosophy that we need to embrace our dark sides – not so sure that I necessarily agree with that in real life (though I definitely do think we can’t ignore the painful parts of our lives and expect them to go away). I don’t know, I guess I just felt a little uneasy about the complete dismissal of Nate’s concerns – we are all shaped by our pasts in many ways, both good and bad, and Nate would have to deal with his (and it would take more than a quick conversation or two to get him past his issues). So, all in all, I really liked this one, though I did have a few issues with the ease with which Nate finally overcame his obstacles. But this was more of a personal issue with me. I give this book 3.5/5 stars.***Disclosure: This book was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. More Reviews Here: Readers Live A Thousand LivesThis is seriously the perfect series for New Adult fans. It has all the elements you want from a New Adult book, but each book still feels fresh and new. It never feels like I am reading a carbon copy of something else. I was really excited when I found out this book would be about Nate and Jessie since they both seem so different.I’m starting with Nate because that boy wormed his way into my heart. My poor poor Nate. He has not had it easy growing up. He has spent his whole life watching his dad abuse his mother and now he is watching his brother spiral down the same path. His head is not a pretty place and he worries that he will end up like his dad, which is why he stays far away from relationships. What Nate can’t see if that he is so different from his dad and that he is a truly good person. My heart really broke for him and what he was dealing with, especially when he finally started to combat those demons.Jessie is simply awesome. I absolutely loved this chick. She is independent and spunky and very much her own person. She has no problem taking care of herself. She is self-assured and knows what she wants in life. I loved this about Jessie. I loved that she was the strong one in the situation and that it was the guy who had demons to work through. That was a nice change of pace and role reversal compared to a good amount of other New Adult reads. I also loved how supportive Jessie was of Nate. She was there for him when he really needed someone and was the support system he needed to finally be able to make changes and face his childhood. I loved that despite the attraction between them and the confusing feelings, she was also capable of being a good friend to him when he needed one.Nate and Jessie on paper look like polar opposites, but in actuality they work perfectly together. They would never have considered one another each others type, but then again they have never been more attracted to someone else. It was fun to watch them sort through what they thought they knew and discover what they actually wanted. It was just a very fun relationship to watch develop. I really just loved them together.I also want to discuss the domestic abuse side of the story. I’m not going to lie, it is very very difficult to read about and those scenes are just plain scary. My heart broke for Nate’s mother and for whatever reason she believed she needed to stay. It hurt even more because it wasn’t just hurting her but it was also hurting her two little boys. I can’t even begin to imagine what it was like for her and those two boys growing up. It is even worse because I know this situation exists out in the real world and it makes me hate people like Nate’s father. There is no excuse in the world for his abhorrent behavior.Promise Me This is another good read from Christina Lee. I have always enjoyed this series and I really do love the way she takes typical New Adult elements and makes them her own. I also really just loved that the girl was the strong one in this book. I would really love to see these roles reversed more often in New Adult. All in all, Nate and Jessie have great chemistry and that chemistry resulted in a great read.

A sweet, emotional, and lovely New Adult romance, Promise Me This was a great read. It was another wonderful book in an already fantastic series and I really enjoyed it.Jessie was a great heroine. Tough, independent, but also kind and compassionate. I really liked how she helped Nate face his issues, encouraging him but never pushing him farther than he wanted to go. She was a lovely character and I really liked her.Nate was also wonderful. He had trust issues but not with other people. Because of his violent father, he had difficulty trusting himself and that had him keeping women at a distance because he didn't trust himself not to hurt them. But, in reality, he was very sweet and a truly good man who would never knowingly hurt someone. He was great and I really liked him as well. The romance was lovely. I thought Jessie and Nate were so sweet together, especially with how Jessie helped Nate come to terms with his family issues. And they definitely hot some super hot chemistry together. I thought they were a wonderful couple. The plot moved quickly and I was kept interested the entire way through. I only have one complaint and it was that something felt a bit off to me. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there was something about this book that didn't flow with everything else. It might just be a combination of a bunch of little things but I can't pinpoint it. There wasn't anything wrong with the major aspects of the book but something didn't work and if I can figure out what it is, I'll let you know. But, otherwise, this book was great. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was perfect.Promise Me This was a wonderful New Adult romance that I really enjoyed. Sweet, emotional, and an overall lovely read, this book was great. Romance lovers, this is a book you'll want to check out.*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

The wild and the sweet, the light and the dark...I am a big Christina Lee fan, and the Between Breaths Series rocks! The author has an awesome storytelling gift. Her ability to make us connect to the characters, to feel their pain, their joy, their love, and um...other things is amazing and wonderful. Each book in the series is about a different couple, but they all continue to be included in each story. Their relationships are interconnected and deep, friendships that feels like a family that you want to be part of. As each layer is exposed you get to see beyond the surface and into the past and the heart of the characters. You become their cheerleader, encouraging them to overcome the painful events that keep them from fully reaching for their dreams. You become their nosy, but well intentioned friend, yelling at them to get their head out of their a$$ and grab ahold of the best thing to ever happen to them. You gasp, you drop your jaw in surprise, you smile, you snicker, you giggle, you sigh, and then you melt into a puddle of goo...and then you wait for the next book in the series because you can never get enough.

Some subjects are so painful and dark- not romantic at all in fact- so it takes a talented writer to weave the two together to create a heartwarming, passionate and hope-filled story that is above all about love. Each book in this series introduces characters that need to heal and find that special someone who is right there to love them and encourage them along their path. In this case, the story swirls around two characters that were introduced in the first book, Nate and Jessie. I didn't read the first book, but read the others in order since. I think this one would be fine as a standalone or out of order as it is only loosely connected to the series, but my recommendation is to stick with the order of the series as best because several of the minor characters were introduced in earlier books.Nate is nearly eaten alive by trying to contain his emotions over growing up in a home rife with domestic violence and seeing evidence that his brother is on the cusp of continuing what their dad started. He is also confused about his sexual needs that, in his mind, tie in to his fears that he'll be just like his father. It is for these reasons that he has strict rules when he gets physical with women which he does often enough to get the manwhore label. His reputation is that of a one and done and as a daredevil with the adrenaline-filled stunts he engages in. But one night, he is brought up short when Jessie, his only female friend, pushes her way into the women's bathroom he is in with an anonymous hook-up. Having her seem him like that shakes him and he slowly starts to realize that he cares about her opinion because he has always cared about her as something more that he doesn't feel he can have.Jessie and the gang from the tattoo shop she works at to help pay for college are pretty tight and they hang at the bar together once a week. This week, Jessie finally saw how Nate, the guy she calls Square, earned his reputation. His clean cut looks and the fact that he comes from money is generally not her thing, but the look in his eyes in that bathroom haunt her. There is more going on under the surface of Nate than she could ever imagine. She feels attracted to him and really wants to get to know the real Nate. A day trip to another town for her photography project with Nate as her guide brings her exactly what she wished for- and more.Spending time with Jessie in his old town, opens up the painful past for Nate. They both open up actually and its scary, but freeing. An unexpected night in a hotel has him unleashing a bit of his dark side. Instead of scaring her or disgusting her, Jessie is right there urging him on. He draws back, confused and scared about what is going on. Jessie gives him space and encouragement, but each time he draws away it is hard on her too. Jessie shows him that it is okay to open up and trust others, to get help, and he starts to do that very thing. Change is hard and Nate feels lost. Jessie doesn't know how long she can keep putting her heart out there and if Nate can ever heal enough to take it and offer her his own heart too.As I said, this one gets into some dark things with Nate's past, but it was an incredible journey of self-discovery, acceptance, courage, hope and love. I was amazed how the author told her tale without me once feeling it slid into useless drama or affectations of feeling. It was hot and passionate without that aspect overwhelming the story. All elements balanced well and the story was so well paced considering it was strongly character-driven.Nate needed to heal and it was tough on him, but he was courageous and tender enough to do it. He had a reputation for being a shallow, rich boy user, but that wasn't even more than a thin veneer. I loved getting to know this guy through his first person narration. He was barely holding it together and trying so hard to do the right thing. I felt so sad for him that he mistook that his taste in dominating his sexual partner was the same as his dad's abusive nature. He berated himself and tried to hold back while all the while he was miserable. It was a vicious cycle.Jessie came along and was his rock and the catalyst for change in him without being pushy, snarky or moody about it all. Jessie's experiences were so different, but she was a breath of fresh air. She didn't judge and she tried to be so patient and understanding even when her heart got involved. Jessie was mature and, for lack of a better term, seasoned in her experience with relationships and sex. She was honest and had so much to give. This made her perfect for a guy like Nate. I spent the last half of the book silently cheering him on to just take what she was holding out to him freely. All in all, I was enchanted and all my emotions from laughter to tears were engaged. I keep saying it, because its true- this author and series are some of the best New Adult Contemporary Romance out there and I recommend it highly to those who enjoy this genre. Even though who prefer adult contemporary romance would probably enjoy these for the depth of the characters and plotting. My thanks to Penguin Group for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Let me be your moon—so that every night, I can illuminate the lonely cavern of your soul.Let me be your sun—so when I burn out each night, you can be the breath and the beacon that leads me home.(From Promise me This)As I sit here trying to work out the right words to describe the outstanding book that was Promise me This, I find myself struggling for the right words. This book was AMAZING. But I can’t use that as a review right? You came to read this to find out if the book was worth investing your hard earned money in and I can answer you in one word, YES!!! So I have its amazing and yes buy the book. Great review so far huh?Now to get serious. I absolutely loved this book. There is just something about this author’s writing that snags me from the opening line and has me hooked till I finish the last word with a satisfied sigh, EVERY SINGLE TIME.This book was an emotional roller coaster. I’d go from chuckling to fighting tears to fanning myself (because it’s a hot one) to wanting to rip a characters head off, to wanting to hug a character, but all through it I was loving every word. This is a story of opposites attracting, finding the one person you can be totally free and your true self with, friends, family and all the crap that comes with any of the aforementioned.Who would have thought the brainy, studious and let’s face it a bit of a man whore Nate would ever fall for Jessie the fiercely independent, tattooed, photography student. But that’s exactly what happens and it’s a journey that’s worth the ride.“He studied my lips corner to corner and then his gaze slid up to my eyes. I tried to keep them wide open instead of closing them on a sigh. Because the intensity of his gaze was all consuming, devastating even. There was so much written there, behind those amber beauties. So much darkness and brightness, pain and splendour. So much I wanted—and now, needed—to know. If only he’d allow me that privilege.”Our hero Nate comes from wealth and privilege and what seems to be a stable family. But looks can be deceiving. What goes on behind closed doors and has been for years has made Nate into what he is now. He doesn’t do relationships only one night stands, he lets his friends only so close and is terrified of becoming his father. Our wonderful heroine Jessie is putting herself through college, works at a tattoo parlour and is following in her late father’s footsteps and is studying photography. She may not come from wealth but Jessie has family that loves her unconditionally and that’s almost more important. When these two put their heads together to help Jessie come up with a theme for her project, neither suspected where it would lead them. A simple road trip that changes everything. So much comes out that neither can go back to where they were before. Lines are crossed and revelations are made and Nate and Jessie are forever changed by the events of that trip.I don’t want to give anything away but to say what happens is both heart wrenching and at times extremely hot is an understatement. When they return to reality things are different and it’s fun and interesting to see them interact after all the events of that weekend. Jessie has managed to bring to the surface a side that Nate keeps hidden. It’s a side that he’s scared of and with Jessie’s help he starts to see it as what is really is and that he shouldn’t hide from it. This is one of the reasons I loved her. She didn’t run away from the drama but stayed and helped him work through it. Jessie balances out the darkness in Nate and he balances out her.“Give it all to me,” she murmured in my ear. “The wild and the sweet, the light and the dark. Because I need them both. They make up who you are. And that’s the Nate I want to belong to.”When you add in their friends, family (can I just say I love Jessie’s mother) and other characters, you get a book that you will not be able to put down till you are done. Oh and the ending……I loved it.While this book is part of the Between Breaths series it can be read as a stand-alone novel. I encourage you though, to read all the books as each one is beautifully written and has characters you will fall in love with as I have with each and every one of them. It is also told from alternating points of view which is both needed and allows you to get the fuller story I feel.I’m already desperate for the next book. Good thing I stalk, um follow this author everywhere and won’t miss it. If you haven’t already picked it up yet, I love this authors writing. This is an author who if you read Young Adult, you need to read and add to their auto buy lists.

The Between Breaths series by Christina Lee has been fantastic. Each book has been well written, full of depth, emotional, and entertaining. The characters in this series are very real young people from different walks of life and different difficulties in finding their place in this world. It is about learning self acceptance, growing as a person, and learning to love with a free heart.Promise Me This took me by complete surprise. We met Nate in the previous book. He was this rich, privileged, carefree guy, player around the campus, known for his one night hook ups, and daredevil activities. He is also loyal to those he loves, family and friends. Beneath his carefree demeanor and charming manner, there is a very troubled young man hiding some hideous secrets. He carries the scars from those secrets deep inside his soul. He will never let those secrets out. He will never let anyone see those dark shadows and monsters hiding in his soul. He is afraid that if he opens that door he will unleash a monster he is unable to contain and control.Jessie is strong and independent young woman. She is from a close knit family background. She has learned compassion, acceptance, and respect from her parents influence in her life. Unlike Nate, she does not come from a privileged background. After the loss of her father, her family has struggled financially. She pays her own way through school working at the tattoo shop as a receptionist. She has made some very close knit friends through the shop. One of those friends is Nate. Nate is completely different from most of the guys she hangs around. He is clean cut, preppy, built, gorgeous in his own way, and tattoo free. But his dynamic personality has endeared him into circle of friends. One night she walks in on Nate and a girl in a bar bathroom. The scene she witnesses has her looking at Nate in a completely different way. She sees him as an attractive man rather than her goofball square friend.Jessie’s photography project will bring her and Nate together. While working on this project they will get to know one another. Jessie will see some of the dark secrets that Nate is hiding. She will encourage him to accept who he is and let his inner darkness shine. As Nate begins to learn to let his inner secrets out and seeks help through therapy. While he is learning to accept his nature and understand his fears, his family life will drop further into the pits of hell. It is time for Nate to come out of hiding and let his feelings surface. It is time he stepped up to the atrocities occurring in his home. But until he is willing to let go and let it out , his relationship with Jessie will never go anywhere.Jessie sees that Nate needs to let out his inner darkness and secrets. She likes his darkness as well as his lightness. She wants him to accept who he is. She wants him as he is.Promise Me This is much more than the scars from domestic abuse. This is about accepting your very nature and learning that goodness and darkness go together perfectly. This is a book about learning self awareness and respect. It is also a beautiful romance that is built on the much more than attraction and chemistry.Christina Lee is a fantastic writer. Her characters leap off the pages and grab the reader by their heartstrings. Her books are fun, witty, intelligent, deep, and romantic. They have the right amount of angst and the right amount fluff. The sexual tension and chemistry is sizzling hot.I highly recommend Promise Me This by Christina Lee. This book can be read as a stand alone novel or in series order. The Between Breaths series is fantastic!

I have had a mixed history with this series, but I have been really excited to read all the books in this series because I really enjoyed All of You, the first book. This book did not disappoint! It actually took me back to when I first began this series. The likable characters, steamy sex scenes, and warm fuzzy romance made this book an excellent New Adult book. The relationship between the characters had great development from friends to lovers. The mutual respect and support that Nate and Jessie provided for each other was heartwarming. Over all, this was a great, quick character-driven read that was a bit predictable."Let me be your moon--so that every night, I can illuminate the lonely cavern of your soul." ― Christina Lee, Promise Me ThisWe met Nate Connors in All of You. He is the best friend of Bennet and all-around ladies' man. Despite his popularity with women, he maintains his emotional distance because of his dark family history. Until Jessie Walters breaks through his hard exterior...Jessie Walters is an audacious, tattooed photographer that works at the local tattoo parlor. She has always seen through Nate's pretenses, and has been there as his friend despite his inability to open up to her. When Nate suggests his hometown for Jessie's school photographer project, everything will change between them. When Nate shows Jessie what lies beneath the surface it will either drive them together and pull them apart.Nate's broken relationship with his father has cast a shadow over his life. As Nate tries to work through his abusive family history, Jessie is there to support him every step of the way. He is trying to reconcile his fantasies with the difficult realities of his life. Jessie helps him see that the his dark history doesn't have to eclipse the light."Promise me this: Explore all the different sides of you. We all have darkness and brightness inside of us. You won't know exactly what you're made of until you embrace all of it, feel it, live it. Only then will you be able to face all that life has to offer, head-on." ― Christina Lee, Promise Me ThisUltimately I can't give this book five stars because its plot is missing the complexity that I enjoy. My biggest complaint about the books in this series is how predictable they are. They follow all the tropes. That said, I really loved this book for what it was. I found it to be a heartwarming friends to lovers story, and an excellent addition to the Between Breaths series.★★★★** ARC PROVIDED VIA NETGALLEY IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW **

3.5/5 WARNING: NEW ADULT. ABUSIVE TRIGGERS (parental) BDSM Type situations (handcuffs and "orders" during sex (all consensual). Read review at own discretion.I wanted to read Promise Me This because I have loved the Between Breathes series. They are all friends so can be read separately, but I will admit I am a little fuzzy on a few of the characters but remember other pieces of stories.I like that Nate is conscious of his past, and that those who are abused is more likely to be an abuser. But I think that at times he is being overly cautious. He has desires to be more wild in sex, but he restrains himself because of a negative encounter as well as his fear of losing control. It was a journey for him to realize the difference. He is more straight laced in day to day life, but has his reputation of being a player. He had his own limits such as no kissing, etc, and he doesn't do long term.Jessie is more of the wild girl, blue haired and tattooed. She is fiesty and can hold her own. Nate likes this and they try to maintain a friendship where they are bantering back and forth and giving each other a hard time. One night when she admits to having been handcuffed and it stirs Nate's lust but again he is afraid. She calls him square and has heard rumors of his one night stand ways, but when she sees him pushing a girl against a sink, she thinks there is more there than she thought instead of money bags boy. When they take a road trip for Jessie's photography project we get to see them open up to one another while they drove and then exploring some of their feelings and attractions for each other. Nate holds back so much, and Jessie realizes it, and helps him to realize that its ok to be rough and bed and do the role playing when both partners are consenting and it stays healthy--only in the right context. This one did push some of my buttons because I have been in an abusive relationship that actually started as a bdsm type arrangement. So I don't know if it was truly more explicit or if it came from a bit of my sensitives. From the trip everything got pretty tense because of his fear, their mutual attraction and the back and forth. There were some pretty hot moments right along side some bravery, arguments, and trying to figure out how it will work for him. Nate really started standing up for himself and trying to be more open about what he went through. He also tries to get his mom to see the light and eventually had a stand off with both his dad and his brother Luke. The ending was sweet and I am glad that things worked out in some ways. It was realistic though and nothing was easy about it and some of the secondary characters still were in a place that was not so bright. But Nate was able to realize the difference in his thinking and how it is okay and not to be with Jessie and how he thinks outside of the bedroom is what shows his beautiful and kind heart. Bottom Line: Steamy but also riddled with Nate having to come to terms with his passion and what he fears he could become.

Promise Me This is made of all things hot and sexy! REVIEW:The story:Nate the privileged playboy & Jessie the tattooed carefree girl are complete opposites on the surface. Working together at the Raw Tattoo parlour, they become close friends, never giving into the attraction that sparks between them. Nate is adamant that he doesn't do relationships, fearful of unleashing a darkness he believes hides within him. But after they take off on an impromptu road trip for Jessie's photography assignment, they get to know each of on a deeper level and the attraction between them becomes so much harder to fight. It was difficult to watch Nate struggle with his inner demons, especially since he was so wrong about the evil person he believed he could be. But it was beautiful how supportive Jessie was with him, and how she not only helped him, but encouraged him to seek out professional help too. She's so strong and was an incredibly positive influence in Nate's life. The characters:Nate might come across as the happy carefree player, but there is so much more lurking under the surface. After his horrible childhood, he fears there is a dark and violent monster inside him. He has such a low view of himself, it took a lot of internal soul searching and help to finally see that he is a truly good and caring man.Jessie is such a vibrant character. She's full of life and driven to achieve her goals of becoming a photographer. I also really respected the fact that she's been through a lot too, after the death of her father. But she never let that break her, instead she used it as motivation to make something of her life. The romance:Jessie and Nate have always had chemistry, with their cheeky teasing banter, but never acted on…until now. And as soon as they give into their attraction, boy do things get HOT! Their romance is intense and deeply passionate. It was beautiful to see Nate finally feel like he could embrace his sexuality with Jessie and not hide or feel ashamed of who he really is. The Writing:This is by far Cristina's sexiest novel in the series. The sex scenes are more experimental and also a little riske. BUT Cristina never fell into the trap of turning this book into an erotica rather than a romance novel with sex scenes - and this is extremely important to me as lately a lot of authors have done this. The story and character development never suffer and the actual storyline still takes centre stage.FINAL WORD:Promise Me This is made of all things hot and sexy! An with a deep, emotional story & rich, complex characters PROMISE ME THIS makes for one powerful read!CONTENT:Sexuality: medium-strong / several sex scenes (including some mild domination)Violence: medium-strong / scenes of domestic violenceLanguage: medium / several f wordsDrugs & alcohol: mild More reviews at The Reading Realm

This review was originally posted on Three Little Birds Book BlogA story about balancing darkness and light, Promise Me This is a sweetly sexy, yet poignant novel about being true to who you are without fearing the different facets of yourself – the good and the bad.I’ve wanted to read a Christina Lee book for a while now, because her work is pretty prevalent in my world amongst my book friends. In fact, I’ve had All of You, the first book in this series, for months, but with my never ending TBR list, I never got around to reading it. Thankfully, that didn’t affect this story for me. This book is definitely a standalone, and although characters from previous books are mentioned, it was more of a passing glance, since this story was all about Nate and Jessie. The two protagonists in this love story are about as opposite as two leads can be. On the one hand, you have this preppy, rich boy from a perfect family. On the other hand, you have a down-to-earth, saucy chick with colorful tattoos, who was raised on pennies and lives in a basement. They’re from two different worlds…but not in the way you think. There’s a richness to Jessie, a light and joy that she exudes that no amount of money can buy. And Nate knows first hand that appearances don’t mean anything. This was more than just a story of opposites attract, it’s more like opposites complement.Nate finds in Jessie a person who wants to see all of him, someone who isn’t afraid of his shadows. Jessie finds in Nate more than what meets the eye. After a day trip spent together, these two realized that the tension that’s been underlying their friendship can’t be ignored. It sizzled and sparked. I must say that I loved the sexy scenes between these two. It was hot, raunchy, raw, and sweet, without being cheesy. Christina Lee wrote those scenes in a way that I felt the two characters connecting, I felt their need for each other, as well as their fears. As Nate and Jessie grow closer, Nate struggles even more with his past, since he knows he has to come to grips with his fears if he has any hope of moving on. The subject matter in this book is heavy, but the way it is dealt with is light. Personally, I felt like the issues Nate and his family face were glossed over, and I would’ve appreciated more scenes where I was shown the ugliness and angst, so that I could feel everything that Nate was experiencing. I wouldn’t have minded a longer, more in depth story, but I think readers who appreciate a dash of reality in their make-believe will love this book.Although I was left wanting, I am intrigued. I want to read the other books in this series. As I mentioned before, this is a true standalone – a complete story, but I still want to read about the other couples, if only to experience some more of those sexy scenes. :) They’re hot!Bottom line: If you love NA, then you’ll love this book. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a fast, steamy read with enough angst to pinch, but not bruise.

I have loved this series so much. Interesting situations that lead to different combinations than you might expect makes this one, oh so good. It's New Adult at it's best.Characters. I love Nate. From the outside, he looks like the privileged rich kid cruising through college. Clean cut with an athletic build, he doesn't do relationships. Why? He grew up in an abusive home and he's greatest fear is to become his father. He's so far from this father, it's not even funny but he's not so sure. So he sticks with hook-ups. Hook-ups where he holds himself in check with a set of rules that keep it impersonal and safe. No getting close to girls. The problem is Jessie. She's a part of the group of friends he hangs with. They are so not each others types so being around her should never be a problem, right. You keep telling yourself that Nate.Jessie is wonderful. She's a tatted strong girl that likes the skinny tatted and pierced boy. Nate's muscled arms and athletic build are not her type at all. But when she catches Nate in a compromising position, she starts seeing him differently. Her upbringing couldn't be more different than Nate's. Her dad's wisdom has strengthened and molded her into a hard working and confident person. The banter between these two is so fun. She's Blue and he's Square. They don't seem to go together at all. His lack of tats and abundance of muscles to her pixie build and tats are light and dark. His dark secrets to her healing stories from her father are dark and light. And mixing them together was that unexpected combination that made a perfect fit.Story. What I adored about this story was the lack of misunderstanding/lying between the characters. When other stories do this, I often find them too contrived. If someone would just speak up the issue would be fixed. But with this story, these two don't misunderstand each other. They aren't lying to each other. In fact, once they spend time together, no one has gotten Nate better than Jessie. They never saw each other as their type. When they discover their chemistry, what keeps them apart is the personal battle that is waring inside Nate. It feels more real. Writing. This author is so good at dealing with the New Adult years. I connected with the characters and enjoyed the story unfold. I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. If you've loved the rest of this series, you should pick this one up too. If you haven't tried this series, then give it a try. New Adult at it's best.

Promise me This is the fourth book in the Between Breaths series. Each book can be read as a standalone, and I have found with this series that this is really the case. Sometimes you get a mention or a cameo of a character from another one of the books but not very much. They basically all just live in the same city/world, but other than that each book is completely focused on the main characters. Which works out great for people that want to pick and choose which books they want to read or to read them out of order. You won’t be lost at all.Promise Me This is the story of Nate and Jessie. They both work at the tattoo shop, but on the surface they seem like complete opposites. There were so many things I enjoyed of their dynamic. I liked that at first glance they each didn’t appear to be the kind of person the other would go for. Jessie likes her guys rough around the edges, slim and cut with tats galore. And Nate is anything but that, Jessie thinks that he lives up to her nickname for him after all, which is Square. Nate has always had a crush on Jessie but he keeps people at a distance because he doesn’t trust himself to not turn out like his father. Just the fact that he was so worried about treating women badly made me know that he was nothing like his father. Another thing I liked about the two of them, was that while Nate always kind of had a thing with Jessie, she never thought twice about him that way until she walked in on him with one of his hookups. It was like the veil had been lifted and she saw another side of him.So much of their boding took place on a short trip they took together. I loved everything about this trip. I loved Jessie’s passion for photography and I really loved how Jessie started to peel back the layers and get to know Nate. It brought me to realize what was my favorite thing about this couple. So much of their connection and communication was nonverbal. She really just got him. It was so clear to see. She could tell when he was getting lost in his head, and she was able to pull him out. I fell in love with their nonverbal dance completely. It made me think- now these two people are perfect for each other.Just like in Before You Break, Promise Me This deals with a tough issue that may be difficult for some people to read about. It deals with domestic abuse. Nate had a tough childhood, and I really liked that this was address so classily in this book. Therapy was used and Jessie helped Nate along the way too. I loved Jessie and Nate so much. They are each such strong characters on their own and to see them weave themselves into the others life was beautiful. There are no other words for it. Whether you have read all three books or none of them, read Promise Me This. It is a great New Adult Contemporary Romance.

3.5 StarsPromise Me This follows the tried and true NA formula - Good Girl meets Bad Boy. We know what happens in these books. It happens every time, yet we still love them. And THAT is why they remain so popular. A new love will test the boundaries of passion between a privileged boy next door and the tattooed, blue-haired girl who helps him embrace his wild side... Nate has developed quite a playboy reputation around campus. It's not that he doesn't respect or trust women; he doesn't trust himself. The men in Nate’s family are prone to abusive behavior—a dirty secret that Nate’s been running from his entire life—so Nate doesn't do relationships. But he can’t help himself around one girl…Jessie is strong, independent, and works at a tattoo parlor. Nate can’t resist getting close to her, even if it’s strictly a friendship. But it doesn't take long for Nate to admit that what he wants with Jessie is more than just friendly. With Jessie, he can be himself and explore what he’s always felt was a terrifying darkness inside him. Even when Nate begins to crave her in a way that both shocks and horrifies him, Jessie still wants to know every part of him. Testing their boundaries together will take a trust that could render them inseparable… or tear them apart. To be fair, Promise Me This was slightly different to other NA reads. The Good Girl was tattooed and into the kinky stuff. The Bad Boy was from the right side of the tracks but with a mountain of daddy issues and a penchant for kinky f-ckery. We didn't fully explore 'that side' of his personality in this book because I think the story would have descended into something dark and WTFish if that were the case. But we did get to know these characters and exactly what it was that floated their boats, and why.Their relationship was a pretty good one - also a rarity in an NA. Jessie was a strong, confident young woman and an absolute breath of fresh air. Nate treated Jessie with respect and care at all times throughout the novel. The dynamics of their relationship actually worked well. A lot of this was probably to do with their friends to lovers situation. This book was a quick and entertaining read and I was in the exact mood for this type of story so it really buttered my biscuit. I'm glad I gave this one a shot! *ARC received from Netgalley in exchange for review<3 Full review - https://onceuponabookblog.squarespace...<3 Facebook - https://onceuponabookblog.squarespace...
