Farewell for a While is the story of a young couple in the Old German Baptist Brethren. Confronted with discord and dissention within the Church, the lovebirds place their upcoming nuptials on hold. Rebekah and Dustin must face the truth about their past, their families, and themselves in order to have a future together. In the meantime, Rebekah uses her loss of an eye as a child and resulting monovision to coach a young girl who’s diagnosed with eye cancer. She also finds herself caught up in a mystery with her fiancé.Lavy’s writing is captivating from the first pages. I was interested to learn about the Old German Baptist, although sad to see the division within the story. As the book progressed, it became labored, and I wanted resolution a tad bit more quickly.

Farewell for a While by Sharon A. Levy is the story of Rebekah Reed and her fiancé, Dustin Cripe. It is the second book in the Sometimes We are Asked to Forgive the Unforgiveable series. Rebekah and Dustin belong to the Old German Baptist Brethren Church. It is an interesting story and it continues with the mystery from Deadly Secret (Book One). You get to learn about Old German Baptist’s. Their traditions, lifestyle, and how the Church is organized. Rebekah and Dustin have to solve a mystery and overcome several obstacles to get married. With their faith and love, they can overcome any obstacles in their path. I was provided a free copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I have now done something I never did before in my life: Read a novel about German Baptists. To my knowledge, Sharon Lavy is the first person who has written such a thing. There have been a lot of Amish novels written (and in my opinion most of them are rubbish—don’t get me started on that one), but none set among German Baptists. Since my husband and I were both raised German Baptist, Farewell for a While caught my eye when I heard about it. I also remember meeting Sharon Lavy many years ago when she and her husband spent the night with my family.Read my full review here.

I received a print copy of this for an honest review. This is my first book by Sharon Lavy and I look forward to more. I found the book enlightening to German Baptists and their beliefs. The book had suspense, romance, and struggles that we all face in life. Rebekah and Dustin are an endearing couple that face obstacles as they plan to marry. If we hang on to our faith and trust God, He will work things out for His good. This book is a great reminder of that and how we should help our fellow man.
