*May contain some MILD spoilers*First of all, I would like to say a HUGE thank you to April, who recommended this book to me!The Glory is truly an utterly fantastic, moving, heart-wrenching and beautiful story about courage, kindness, friendship, family, perseverance and love. This is the first novel I have read in 2016 and I just could. not. put. it. down.It is superb! I loved the story and the alternating POVs. It was exciting and a little different and just all in all a wonderful read. It's unpredictable and exciting...I had no idea how it would end or what turn the story would take next. One of the things I loved most about this story was the characters! The Glory is a very strong character driven story. We see multiple different POVs throughout the story but of course our two main POVs are our main protagonists: Alexandra Blakewood and Will Greyton.ALEXAt the beginning of the novel I must confess I was not overly keen on Alexandra. In ways I could sympathise with her and I understood why she behaved the way she did...a little. But I didn't find her particularly likeable to begin with. She does something stupid and lands herself in trouble and at this point I did really feel for the girl because things escalated beyond her control and she never meant for the disaster to happen.(Of course, I disapproved of her doing what she did in the first place, however...if she hadn't then we wouldn't have story.) However, I loved the growth of her character throughout the novel. She's fiery and brave and determined and those were the things I loved about her character and I found that more of her good side was revealed as the story went on. Yes there were times when I wanted to shake her with frustration and yell: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU IDIOT?!" but, by the end of the story my opinion of her had changed completely. She had really grown on me and I loved her passion and love for horses. Her relationship with Scout was bumpy to begin with but the bond they eventually formed between one another as they went on their journey was endearing.However...nothing could ever beat the relationship between Will Greyton and his beloved Arab mare horse Shiraz!!!Their relationship is so special and beautiful and adorable and so, so strong. They say that a dog is a man's best friend...well in this case a dog has absolutely NOTHING on Will and Shiraz's relationship. I loved the way they took care of each other and the love they had for one another. (In many ways it reminded me a lot of Sean Kendrick's relationship with his beloved Waterhorse - Corr - from The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater, but this story is different. The characters are different and the horses are different...but both relationships are every bit as gorgeous as the other.) WILLThe male protagonist of the story and without shadow of a doubt my FAVOURITE character! He's strong, selfless, brave, loyal, caring, incredibly kind and so unbelievably sweet. He has the biggest heart in the whole world and these wonderful qualities of his meant were what enabled him to make so many sacrifices for the ones he cared about. My heart broke for him throughout the novel. He worked hard his whole life and was doing so well in his life and one incident involving his father resulted in him giving up so many of his dreams.I adored his relationship with his father and their bond was unbreakable. His devotion to his father and of course to his beloved mare Shiraz was so endearing and heart-wrenching. Will has lost so much in his life and when he was faced with the prospect of losing his dear father forever and his precious Shiraz, my heart just shattered into a million pieces for this poor boy. He didn't deserve to go through all that pain. Any of it. And to be faced with so much responsibility at the age that he was was so unfair but, Will being the kind-hearted soul that he is would do all of it all over if it meant that he could protect and hold onto the ones he loved. Oh and did I mention that he's every bit as gorgeous on the outside as he is on the inside? No?Well he is. Utterly, utterly gorgeous! <3 He is absolutely perfect and definitely my favourite character.I was completely enraptured and wrapped up in both of their stories and just unable to put it down---and THAT is before our two protagonists even meet! And when they do finally oh my! The story enters a whole new realm of exciting!I loved how Alex and Will's relationship grew and developed slowly over the course of their daring journey together. There were definitely moments when I wanted to shake Alex because she was being so stupid but at the same time there were countless moments between them that just made my heart swell to the point that I thought it might burst. Their relationship is beautiful and adorable.I loved the way they looked out for one another...even when they thought they shouldn't.But they couldn't help themselves! Their relationship was stunning and I loved reading every moment. My emotions were in constant turmoil throughout this story because I started off not really liking Alex and falling completely in love with Will from the very first time he was introduced in the story; to then loving both of them and wanting both of them to win. For a while I couldn't decide between them and worst of all, the fact that this novel was so unpredictable meant that I had no idea who would win!In the end, my heart went out for Will to win The Glory because his motives were so selfless and caring and I wanted him to win so badly. I wanted them BOTH to win but I wanted Will to win more than anyone! The end wasn't what I expected but I absolutely LOVED it!It was the perfect ending and I was left with a massive happy smile on my face when I read the last sentence. Will and Alexandra! <3 (Forever!)With regards to the other characters...Of course, I adored Will's dad. The fact that Will and his dad were best friends as well as Father and Son made their relationship all the more special and loveable.I had expected to hate Alex's biological father - Sam Blakewood - but I actually really liked him and throughout the novel I was praying that they would one day find their way back to each other.I despised Jeremy - Alex's stepfather. I gave him the benefit of the doubt at the start but I definitely hated him by the end, and I am so pleased with the outcome of his character by the end of the story. With regards to Alex's mother - Natalie - I could not make up my mind about her during the first half of the story. She came across as weak and just didn't seem to understand her daughter. She made a few bad calls and allowed herself to be swayed by her manipulative husband, Jeremy. However, if that hadn't happened, then we wouldn't have such a beautiful story and so many relationships that were formed over the course of the story would never have happened. ;)By the end of the story she (like Alex) had really grown on me and, like with Sam, I was praying that Natalie and Alex would find their way back to each other too. I don't want to spoil this book for those who haven't read it so I will simply say that The Glory is a MUST-READ!For a story centred around a brutal long-distance endurance race, it is fast-paced and exciting. It is a beautiful, romantic and powerful story about courage, willpower, love and sacrifice. If you love unpredictable stories filled with strong, memorable characters, endearing friendships and family bonds, stunning romance...and of course HORSES!!! then this is DEFINITELY one you must read!I loved every moment spent reading this book and it is one that I shall definitely be reading again! This is the first novel I have ever read by Lauren St. John and she has completely blown me away with The Glory! If you haven't read this book...READ IT NOW!(Thank you again April for recommending this amazing book to me! This is definitely one of the best books I've ever read! What a wonderful way to begin the New Year. Thank you.)

Alex Blakewood's parents despair of her destructive behaviour and send her to a US bootcamp. Will Greyton's hopes of college are already in pieces for lack of money when his sick father's medical treatment makes him desperate. Both seek salvation in a 1,200-mile horse race from Colorado to Oregon, through every kind of landscape and weather imaginable on two incredible horses. Will and Alex fates are intertwined as they fight their personal demons and the competition in their bids to get to the finish line first. Lauren St John loves horses and wide open spaces and this comes through in the rich detail that brings this story to life. The pace never slackens. I couldn't put it down.

This is my first horse story by Lauren St.John and considering I am not that interested in equestrianism, I really enjoyed this book. The plot and pacing were thrilling to read and the characters were believable and their problems became your problems. Will and Alex and their slow progress in a relationship was endearing and sweet to read. I loved every second that they shared together. The descriptions of the scenery and the horses, especially Shiraz and Scout were beautiful. The ending was the best part and for me, it ended perfectly. I definitely recommend it!

An utterly glorious, sweeping and heart-pounding epic story of the ultimate cross-country horse race. Exciting and beautiful - a real modern classic.

This is honestly one of the best books I have ever read! It was so beautiful and filled with love, adventure and hope. The characters were amazingly written so that they bounced off each other and you never felt yourself getting annoyed with any of them for their actions. The ending was so fairytale, the kind where all the ends are tied up and everything falls into place. I just loved it!

Super knížka, která vás jen tak nepustí. Příběh Alex, Scouta, Willa a Shiraz jsem si zamilovala stejně jako ten Casey a Storma. Zhltla jsem ho jedním dechem.

I received a copy in exchange for a fair and honest review on my blog Nayu's Reading Corner! Yet another brilliant horse read from the talented Lauren. There's all her trademark points of complex main characters who have attitude & life circumstances which are less than ideal. There are 'enemies' (for lack of a better word) who are cruel, manipulative and underhanded. I liked how dramatically both Will and Grace enter each others' lives, continue to be at odds for a fair part of the novel, and how much they grow as people by the end. They both endure heartache for themselves and their animals. They face lots of trouble, which to be fair Grace not so much deserves but she does have attitude issues so the difficulties she and Will face develops them personally, helps them draw on inner strength neither knew they had. I mean that both literally and figuratively, since The Glory is a month long race that is daunting for all who entered it. Grace is a little bit too wishful in leaving her troubles behind her, but rest assured by the end things have a way of working themselves out, even the parts which I thought Grace couldn't get out of but thanks to the generosity and mercy of other characters she doesn't have to deal with the fall-out. Not being a direct horse fan I found it interesting learning how horses needed to be treated when they are on a super long race, how much rest they need and the type of nutrition they are given while in the race. Whatever faults Grace and Will have, they adore their horses and do anything for them. Grace can be a little minx but I had to give her credit for some of her 'crimes' because she put a lot of thought into what she did (mostly...she did also act on spur of the moment which did put her in danger). I'd better stop here as this part of the review isn't quite short (but I did type at top speed) or I'll end up telling the entire story! Know that you will need tissues when you read this, you will get a wide range of emotions for all the characters, and will definitely want to reread this one day. You might like to know that since reading it I've learnt there will be a film!

    1. This book spans 1,200 miles (and more). It took me two nights - and two breakfasts - to read. When you finish this book, you'll wonder whether you were sitting on a racing horse you galloped through it so fast. Also, it's a big book. This isn't my way of bigging up the fact that I read a 200 page book in two days. My ARC is 445 pages long.2. This book adds to my collection of books-by-Lauren St John-that-I-loved.After reading and loving all Lauren St John's books (especially The One Dollar Horse series) I wasn't nervous at all to jump straight into The Glory because I knew it would be good and I knew it would keep me hooked. Thankfully I wasn't disappointed: the characters, the horses, the plot - I adored everything about this book and honestly, if you've not read a book by this author yet then why not?!3. Potter approves. And if he does then so should you.

4.5/5 stars. I fell in love with Will, Alex, Scout and Shiraz. The dual POV added to the understanding of the story and made me fall in love even more. The scenery was unimaginable, I felt as though I was actually riding along with them. The idea that both went into the race for different reasons, very much in it for themselves but found out that they strengthened each other and brought out the best parts. The only reason it isn't a 5 star is the ending, I felt like it could have been drawn out more. Going through the streets to the finish line. More about Will and Alex when they found out they would be so close to each other. Definitely a read for anyone who likes action-romance books and horses. 100% recommend

SPOILERS!!!The Glory is by Lauren St John. In this book there was a great use of switching POV's (Point Of Views) and when they were switched it fitted and it felt like it flowed with the story. Lauren also used different symbols for each chapter and having the 'symbol glossary' meant that I and anyone, who was reading the book, could look up everyone and know what they meant. In five words this book was: tension, rivarly, fear, love and adventure. When Alexandra Blakewood meets Will Greyton both entered in the competition named 'The Glory'; they are almost immediately rivals. But when conditions change; they find themselves working together in persuit to win $250 000 (the cash prize)...

This was a really good book! It was interesting and kept me hooked the whole time while keeping to the storyline. A girl on the run from the law. When Alexander Lakewood si sent to a US boot camp for "out of control teenagers", she only has one thing on her mind, escape. Every option seems impossible until she meets Scout, and out of control palomino mustang. A boy on a mission to save a life. Will Greyson thinks that thing can't get any worse until his father becomes fatally ill, and he might have to give up the grey Arab mare he loves. The Glory. A race across the American West. Can both Alex and Will make it throughout without losing their lives? And who will win it? Read this book to find out!

Really awesome book. I love books that involve teens tripping all over the country ( or the world, i'm not picky) and this one had the added bonus of horses, subtle humour, history of the old west and a touch of romance.Plus the landscape is this book is beautifully described and fills me with a longing to set out on my own road trip.Finding a book like this that features many of the things/topics I love and is actually a great read is like finding a unicorn. Highly recommend. The only thing that brought this book down to more like a 4.5 star rating is that I wish the ending had been drawn out a bit more. Just riding through the street to the finish line would have been perfect.

On behalf of my 10 year old sister and myself, I can definitely say this is one of our favourite books we have read in a while. It combines the hardships of life with horses. The main characters are in a 1200 mile horse riding endurance race for very important causes, but there are many twists and turns along the way...

Za mě se jedná o zatím nejlepší koňskou knihu, kterou jsem přečetla a že jich bylo dost. Měsíc v sedle je opravdu krásný a emotivní román. Mně osobně chytil za srdce a čtení jsem si opravdu užívala.
