While this is the only D&D erotica I've ever read and I'm not much of an erotica reader in general (pretty much at all, honestly, unless the Kushiel series by Jacqueline Carey counts), I have a sneaking suspicion it would be the best even if I'd read a lot of it. I could not put this down, and thoroughly enjoyed the world-building, the characters and the plot mechanism was leaps and bounds more clever than some supernatural erotica mechanisms I've heard about it in recent years. Sally Courtnix rolled a natural 20 in WIS.Things I loved:- The woman is 100% the hero of this hero's journey- Wonderfully diverse characters with flaws and their own agendas; no Mary Sues- Compelling narrative in an immersive world- Clever humor scattered throughout- A tall, broadly built warrior woman sometimes mistaken for a man who doesn't have an Eeyore bone in her body- Sexy, sex-positive, consensual sex scenes (note: sometimes including sadism)I'm hoping Courtnix will expand on this story and eventually create a novel from this world and these characters.

An easy read that challenges monogamy and pokes traditional gender roles in the eye. The characters are flawed, candid, they do stupid things, always with the best intentions (or they're just horny, depending on who we're talking about) with solid but brief backstory. An adventure with a bit of sex thrown in -because it's part of the plot.

There are many things I loved about this story. I love Brede - she is a woman after my own heart. She's not traditionally beautiful - she's large and scarred but it didn't detract from her sexuality. I loved that she didn't doubt herself when it came to being naked. I loved that the women were strong and the men were varied. As a sociological statement, I feel this is the book to share. The style of the story is as expected - it's not a deep book (I wish it had been just a bit more). As an erotic story - I felt the sex was a little lacking. It felt held back. I've read a lot of erotica and the sex drives the plot more than the plot does. This book didn't have that. It was actually quite mild. That's not a complaint but if you are looking for something super smutty - this probably is not the book for you. However, if you want a heroine who looks nothing like Barbie and a love interest who isn't a high rise banker - then I highly recommend picking this one up.It's a quick read and probably a great vacation read.
