The Bridge of Deaths Revised Edition: A Love Story and A Mystery Reviews
The Bridge of Deaths reads like something far beyond fiction: it reads like a mission of discovery, a search for truth propelled by the author’s passion and curiosity, trying to piece together stories she heard in all the way back in her childhood about her grandfather, who was one of five casualties in a mysterious aircraft crash. The research that M.C.V Egan wove into this book is astounding in depth and breadth, beyond the usual amount of work usually done by other historical fiction writers. The mystery is wrapped in psychic aspects of the possibility of reincarnation and in romance that is all the more enjoyable because of the contrasts between Bill and Maggie, opposites attracted to each other. They set out to learn about the crash with the help of Catalina, a character who obviously represents the author herself in her drive to resolve conflicts between different accounts of history, different version of truth, and conflicting snippets of evidence: “She held up a photograph for them to see of two men walking in a snowfall across a bridge somewhere in New York City. They were her two grandfathers, the one she never knew, who died in cold Danish waters, and the one she wasn’t related to by blood, but certainly by bond of great childhood memories…”Five stars.
I received a paperback copy of this book, with the original book cover, in return for an honest review.I have to start out by saying I was a little leary about whether or not I would like this book. I knew from the beginning that this was not one of my usual reads, but I was intrigued and took it to my local library and myself and a librarian did a little research check on it!! The more we read about the book and the reviews that went with it, it intrigued me more and I set off for home to start reading it.WOW, what an amazing story this is!! I was extremely fascinated and addicted to it from beginning to end!! The book is very well written and is very fast paced!! I could tell that the author took a lot of time and did a lot of research to bring this story alive!! I had half this book read before I went to sleep the very first night!! I felt like I was part of the story and could relate to the characters!! It's a MUST read Adult book and a refreshingly unique story that will keep you reading more!! Thank you, Mcv for this fabulous story!!
After having read the same book with a more academic nature I was surprised at myself for looking forward to re-read the book!Given, I prefer the first to this copy but how many authors can make you look forward to reading the same book? Not many. This book is far more accessible and the people who read fiction for escapism sake will find this version far more rewarding. I must say, it turned into a far faster read than I initially figured. Then I recalled that reading the first book I was forever looking up documents etc. The story is simple. Reincarnation and real research works in tandem to bring two lovers destined and the past together. The real story is that this book is not close to fiction. Little of this novel is fiction and that adds some wonderful spice to the story. WaAr
An Interesting historical/mystery/paranormal/romance!This book is a compilation of historical facts, fiction, paranormal activity with a little romance thrown in the mix. There are three basic characters: Maggie, Bill and Catalina, who is providing information about the death of her grandfather back in the summer of 1939 in a plane crash by Skype with Maggie. The author states that she is not an historian but has researched this cold case extensively for years and this book is the result of her efforts. Ms. Egan delves into the mystery with loads of facts and figures that are mind boggling at times. The reader reviews the information and backgrounds of the deceased from this plane crash along with the characters. A romance develops between Maggie and Bill after they meet by serendipity. The couple soon learns that they are connected by paranormal dreams that led to uncovering some of the mysteries Catalina needs in order to solve the case of her grandfather's death. At times some of the facts and figures become tedious to read but the the romantic interludes break up the monotony of this.I found this book to be unusual but interesting.
Not my cup of teaThe description of the book was very different than how the story evolved. Thought it would be more historical than using past life regression, etc
