Madame Gretchen Reviews
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. After reading Madame Gretchen by Kayla Lords, the first thing I had to do was take a cold shower because this was one of the sexiest, most erotic stories that I have ever read. Then as if writing such steamy sensual scenes wasn’t enough, Ms. Lords made the story so sweetly emotional that I felt it in my very soul.Madame Gretchen is a Domme at the most exclusive BDSM club in the area, The Iron Maiden. In order to receive your membership in the club, you must participate in her six week course designed to not only teach you about the BDSM lifestyle, but also to help you get in touch with your wants and needs. The class began with six students – a mix of Dominants, submissives and switches. With such a diverse group of characters, there was someone and something to relate to for every reader. As Madame Gretchen challenged each participant sexually, she challenged them emotionally. Watching each person overcome their fears and find their inner peace was actually inspirational and touched me deeply. I understand the fear of baring your body, I understand the fear of being judged and found lacking, and I understand the reality of self-doubt. Ms. Lords touched on each one in such a way as to help you conquer those fears just as the characters did. What is amazing is that Ms. Lord, despite the limitations of a novella, was able to create three-dimensional characters that I believed in completely. Each of the class participants was authentic and I found myself cheering them on in their quest to find happiness. The glimpses into their lives away from the class as well as their inner thoughts just pulled me further into the story until I was so intertwined in their lives that I was sad for the book to end.The story flowed so naturally that time flew by while I was reading. I am so glad that I read this book in private because I was so turned on by the time it ended. I enjoyed every part of this story and can only hope that Ms. Lords has more in store for Madame Gretchen and the Doms and subs of The Iron Maiden
This book packs a lot of ideas into a deceptively small space, using an intriguing framework. Six characters are applying for membership in a BDSM club, and to get in, they have to attend (and participate in) a series of orientation workshops administered by (of course) Madame Gretchen. The truly innovative part is the way Kayla structures that story. Gretchen sets the stage and winds things up at the end, but each class is seen through the eyes of one of the students. In the process, we get to see how each of those people became interested in joining the club, really getting a solid feeling for who they are as people. This isn't a sextet of slim young hardbodies, either - the grandmother is just as important as the twenty-something couple, despite the cocky alpha's attempts to steal the show. Imperfections are embraced and cherished, not mocked to provide entertainment or humiliation. That's absolutely wonderful in this age of airbrushed illusions of perfection. These are genuine, realistic people, warts and all.I do have to knock this book on two points. The minor one is the copyediting; there are several places where some punctuation could be added to good effect, and a handful of typos (such as "is" for "his") that are easy enough to decode in context. More significant is that a certain sex toy is used in a way that completely shattered my suspension of disbelief; its core function is exactly to prevent the quandary for which it was employed. I can't even write it off as one character playing mind games with hidden information; the physiology is simply wrong.Ultimately, those flaws did cost this otherwise five-star story a star. I still recommend Madame Gretchen wholeheartedly as an exquisite peek into the world of kink. You won't look at your "everyday neighbors" the same way again.
Sucked me right into the world of the Iron MaidenThe book title does its job in that it piques my curiosity and had me open the book in the first place. At the time I started reading, I was taking a break and thought I'd just read a few paragraphs. Well, that "break" of mine extended to include the entire book! So, yes, I read this story cover to cover. From the very first page, I found myself immersed in the leading protagonist's perspective -- Madame Gretchen's. What I loved about this book as well is how it took me into different points of view that not only included Madame Gretchen's but every new kinkster being initiated into an exclusive BDSM club. Lively dialogue, memorable characters, hot scenes, great trainer -- my, I bet you'd want a real Madame Gretchen to step out of your e-reader and also have her own fun by the end of the book.In other words, I highly recommend this read and can't wait for Kayla's next book, whatever it is.
I have been following Kayla Lords' blog, A Sexual Being, for a long time now and I also had the pleasure to read Kayla Lord's three previous novellas, "Big Game", "The Adventures of Sir and Babygirl" and "Sir and Babygirl: Bound by Love".I loved them because they were well written, very erotic, with an interesting narrative and characters one can relate to. Both stories fuelled my imagination and I felt sad arriving at the last page.I have enjoyed Kayla's fourth eBook titled "Madame Gretchen" very much.It is clear Kayla Lords has matured as a writer. Boy can she tell a hot story.Madame Gretchen is somewhat conceived as a frame story and each of the 6 kinksters get a chapter. These people grow, evolve and gain self-confidence and self-knowledge.The kinksters Randy Boy, Bella, Drake, The Switches and Ivory are portrayed in such a way they could be you, me or your neighbour. They are everyday people with their wishes, fears and (anatomic) imperfections and stand very far from the Christian Grey's of this world.A good story is one you can relate to. I must admit I was touched a few times. I had a couple of laughs too because a few scenes, merely described by a phrase or two, were, for me, funny and recognizable.Overall I had a great time reading this short story, got really turned on and once again it was over way to quick. After the first few pages I was completely sucked into the story and in my mind's eye the dungeon, the atmosphere, the people were very tangible.Madame Gretchen is about real-life BDSM.I know that because I myself am a proud and happy member of the lifestyle.Every erotic scene is pleasing and surprises by its originality. They are never boring but rather new and sparkling. It also appears Madame Gretchen is very good in what she does. But even a Dominatrix has feelings, doubts and insecurities. You get an insight in the world of Domination and submission and a crash course on the do's and don’ts in the world of BDSM.It is the prefect antidote against the popular but erroneous vision shown in a very popular movie.Madame Gretchen is about trust, pleasure, lust, love, pain and so much more. But most of all it is extremely well written and thus comes highly recommended.
Have you ever had a kinky fantasy of being a member of a well respected BDSM club? What would you have to do? How much could you handle?Madame Gretchen takes you on a hot journey with a little twist. A very popular BDSM night club requires their "possible" members to endure a series of test/ classes to see if they are worthy. The author takes you on this journey with a Dominatrix that has a sadistic way of showing members their true nature. Madame Gretchen is hot with curves and her latex suits, high heels, purple lipstick the way she holds herself and demands respects leaves the students drooling. You also meet the mix of types when it comes to students from the typical kinky couple who think they know everything, the shy girl who thinks she isn't beautiful because she isn't skinny or model material. You also meet a heavier voluminous woman who is old enough to be most readers mom or grandma she carries herself with the love of wise years. The attitude most wish we had: "take me as I am or walk the hell the other way"! You will also meet two men my goodness Madame had a big class... The first man is middle aged and been through a lot be careful with him though ladies he is a sub through and through. Then of course the egotistical jerk, he got the body of a God and he knows it. It's a great time watching him get knocked off him pedestal.Throughout this book you will need a fan because it is gonna get HOT!!! They will learn to submit, lead and best of all they learn things of themselves they didn't know or maybe we're afraid of.I thoroughly enjoyed the heat, scenes, torture-oh yes-and the surprises, as it kept me captivated to the end.Ds Little One.....because one is never enough5 Star Review
Title: MADAME GRETCHENSeries: N/ACategory /Genre: Erotica, BDSMRecommended for: 18+ due to sexual contentReceived from: Kayla Lords (Beta read)Grammar/editing: A – near perfectThis is a stand-alone novel. If you have ever visited Ms. Lords’ website (A Sexual Being), you may have read a short story there about a visit to The Iron Maiden. She has expanded on the dungeon with the tale of the membership process.Since I know Kayla Lords personally (as in I know her real name hehehe), and have spent some time with her and her Sir, I teased her that I was going to try to match characters with some of the real people we met…Not saying too much there. I personally identified with one of the characters…. so much so that it brought me to tears. No, she didn’t use me as a character, but I think most of us would find some elements in at least one of the characters that we will recognize in ourselves. Who do you identify with – the Dom, the Domme, one of the switches, one of the submissives, perhaps the baby-girl, or the rope bunny? Each of the characters is uniquely different and represents at least one of the many general groups within the BDSM community. Kayla is an amazing author who is gifted in providing an erotic tale while also giving us a kink education that is fun for us and the characters. Will we be returning to The Iron Maiden in the future with Madame Gretchen? One can only hope (littles are in charge of pouting and begging – whatever works to make it happen!)
If I could have given 4.5 stars I might have, but I have to admit that would be more about my preferences for "BDSM within a relationship" rather than a pro-dominant situation. However I started reading this book knowing what it is and enjoyed it immensely.Spoilers ahead:I loved how the author moved through the story focusing on the point of view of 1 character. Each person's "story" brought forward a unique experience of BDSM and sexuality in general. Ivory made me giggle. In many ways I was glad that Mami/Missy and Big Daddy/Pup dropped out of the class early; with the exception of Madame Gretchen herself, I found the characters' true-to-life anti-switch thoughts tiresome. Although I do feel that the author proved with her writing that she may have been able to utilize Madame Gretchen to do some lovely teaching about how incorrect the ideas about switches are. While I did find much of Madame Gretchen's "pro-Domme angst" inexplicable/irritating, I was very touched at her reaction to the letters, especially Drake's pleading for an "Old Guard style training."
I really enjoyed reading this book about joining a BDSM club. I liked reading about the different characteristics of the characters and being able to hear their thoughts. The characters are not your typical 'Barbie' and 'Ken'. Read the book to see which character is most like you. The book entices you to read more and is very interesting. BDSM books are my favorite books and I especially like reading books by authors who live the lifestyle. It make the book more authentic, not a research project. Thank you Kayla for your insight and for sharing you stories. I don't live the lifestyle, but it fills my fantasies on a daily basis. I look forward to reading more from Kayla Lords.
I wanted more if Madame Gretchen's story!
