It started as a simple revenge short story. Then it kind of grew on me as I realized I could ask some bigger questions. I’ve been told that the main character isn’t really likeable. But I like him a lot. He’s got some good qualities even if he is capable of doing some horrible things. But aren’t we all? Is this a thriller book, or more pointedly a thriller short story? I find it hard to define exactly which genre it falls under. It's a crime thriller of sorts but it's not a chase story. The plot moves along in a manner similar to a psychological thriller I believe. There's plenty of introspection, but if I had to call it something I guess I'd put in the crime thrillers category though I don't really see myself as a crime thrillers writer. Regardless of genre, I like this short story. I believe it puts some things on the table and isn't that what stories are supposed to do?...

This was an excellent short story that really got me thinking. Everybody has had a boss like this at least once in their life, and butt kissers seem to be a dime a dozen! I liked how this story played out. Mr. Drouant is a fine storyteller, and I've enjoyed everything I've read from him. Yep, I'd recommend this story and author.
