    I really think that Ichijo and Ranta cover a lot of the basic stuff I want to know or want people to know about food and nationalism. For that: great primer. I sometimes wished the book would venture a position as to what implications the various phenomena discussed might have in future, but I suppose you can only ask for so much from a text aiming to act as a foundation for an area of study.
