A Valley Experience by Pam Funke is an interesting, thought provoking, educational book. Although it is Christian book it is not a preachy book. The book is a little slow moving at first while she is building a foundation, but really picks up after a while. For the right age, it would be a good book for young ladies to read to help them learn the consequences of bad choices. However, I would suggest a parent look through the book (if not read and enjoy) to help decide if your daughter is ready for some of these topics. I appreciate that the author got the point across without to much description on certain subjects, giving the readers a little credit, that we too, have an imagination. One of my favorite things about the authors writing is she allows you to know what people are thinking, giving you some insight as to what is really going on. A good book, worth the read!

I sat down a few hours ago to read this book and I literally could not put it down. I read it from start to finish as I was so captivated by it. This book deals with real life issues and I think that is what pulled me in. The story of Brianca tugged at my heart in so many places. This book deals with heartache, strength, feelings of failure, determination, trust, mistrust... I could just go on and on. I had so many emotions going through me as I read. I really felt for Brianca as she went through so many ordeals that young girls should just not have to deal with. But in the end she came out of it and I was very pleased with a happy ending. There were many times I didn't think this was going to end in a positive way. This is definitely a 5***** book and I highly recommend it. I was given a copy of this book by the author for my honest review.

What a refreshingly great read author Pam Funke has presented to us. This was my first time to read one of her novels but it will definitely not be my last. Any of us who has ever been a teenage daughter or the mother of one, knows the truth to the way this stressful time is presented. As our story begins, Brianca Euley and her mom are in the middle of these stresful years and to add to the stress is the ever threatening sibling rivalry with a younger sister. These problems are common in many families so we start out thinking we can predict the storyline--but WOW !! --are we ever wrong. A family that faithfully attends church and knows God but not intimately and never turns to Him for help with this problem, gives Brianca the basic God knowledge she could have relied on, but doesn't. Instead she lets each problem she faces become magnified and begins to make bad choices that lead to the life destroying events that ake this a novel that should be read by every family, especially mother/daughter book clubs. Brianca is not popular at school but somehow makes the cheerleading team alone with her only friend, Carrie. Carrie and her widowed mom are Christians and they provide Brianca with the only support system she has. When she is with them, she prays with them but it is more for them than from her heart. She feels God has deserted her but never shares this feeling with them or anyone else who could have counseled her. Following a bitter argument with her mom causing her to be grounded by her dad, she runs away from home, going to Carrie's and not knowing any of this, Carrie's mom takes the girls to catch the bus to cheer camp. The two moms almost fight at the bus lot, embarrassing their daughters, and Brianca's mom let her go off to camp without making up. Life at camp continued to me problems for Brianca. She is not allowed to room with Carrie, but put in a room with some very mean girls who verbally abuse her and then destroy everything she brought to camp. She and Carrie report it but have no proof so she feels no one believes her. Eve though she is allowed to spend the first night in Carrie's room, she knows she must return to the other room the next day. To avoid this, she runs away during the night and accepts a ride with a total stranger who appears to be a friend but drugs her and sells her to huan sex traffickers. She is kept drugged and repeatedly raped for days, then sold to a rich sex trafficker who after initially raping her, treats her like a princess. She lives in luxury for the first time in her life but must prostitute at the demands of her new owner. She begins to feel "loved" for the first time in a long time as she mistakes her owners kindness for love. When she breaks his rules, hiding money she has been given off record by some johns, he beats her so severely that she is bedridden for weeks. God's voice repeatedly speaks to her but she never listens, she never hears. She does occasionally think about her family, home and Carrie but feels she can never go back so she tries to forget. Eventually this hiding money does get her beaten almost to the point of death and as she recovers, she learns she does have a real friend--the stable boy--but as he helps her escape, he is murdered before her eyes. She succeeds in escaping with the help of her dead friend's friend but he is afraid for his life too so drops her in another town with enough money for maybe 2 weeks. Since our story takes place in Florida and the beach has always been her peaceful place, she spends time there trying to decide what to do. Again she makes another bad choice--she meets and is be-friended by another starnger who is part of a gang that rape and rob her of what little money shee has. And so her habit of making one bad choice after another and leaving God completely out f her life continues. Eventually she lands in a tavern operated by a God fearing woman who gives her a job and a room above the tavern. Suddenly her life looks better but as her loneliness continues, she looks for acceptance in the only way she has learned--sex--one night stands with tavern customers. After becomig accustomed to thislife, her knight in shining armor comes along and after a very short courtship, she marries him, only to learn that he is a very controlling wife beater. It seems as though her life is destined to be one of loneliness, abuse and no love. She begins to sense that still, small voice as God continues to speak to her, but she does not respond. I think I need to stop here so that I do not spoil the entire story for you. This is a must read for anyone who has ever had to deal with any of these problems or anyone who hasn't. It is very inspirational book of God's love that never leaves us but allows us to turn our backs to Him. It is the story of how making bad choices can have long lasting, sometimes permanent consequences, that only God can make right again. It is the true story of a God that never stops loving us, never leaves us and is always waiting to welcome us back into His caring, protective arms whenever we are ready. Get your hankies ready and open this book for a wonderful experience in reading pleasure and feel it drawing you closer to the God who loves you.

E-book gifted by the author for reviewA Valley Experience is the story of Brianca Euley, a rebellious teenager who believes that her parents, her mother especially do not love her. She distances herself from her family more and more after her little sister reads her diary, then tells all her friends what it said. She thinks that no matter what she does they will never accept her for who she is, so when she is chosen to go to cheerleading camp she is thrilled because it means getting away from the people that cause her so many problems. But things do not turn out the way Brianca wished, some of the other girls believe she did not deserve to be a cheerleader so they ruin her things and trash her room. Feeling like she has no one else left in the world that can help her, she runs away from the camp and headlong into a world she could never imagine and a whole lot of trouble. Will Brianca's stubbornness be her undoing or will she finally realise that people really do love her for the person she is and not the person she thinks everyone wants her to be? Pam Funke brings the reader a truly moving and sometimes devastating tale of one young girl's struggle to find her true identity. Brianca's character bothered me at first because she has a family who loves her, but because of her wanting to grow up faster than need be she pushes everyone away and treats them like they do not matter to her because they are stopping her being who she truly believes she wants to be. Sometimes reading what happens to Brianca is very difficult to read and did bring me to tears, but life is hard, things do not always go the way we wish they would go and that is when we need to find the strength in ourselves to find a way through whatever hardships are thrown our way. It was very interesting to see Brianca's character grown and change with every event that happened to her, it was a natural and very believable progression. The underlying message of the tale is to have faith in God and believe that he is always there watching over you, even when think he is not. It was not done in an over the top or preaching manner which I feel makes the story all the more enjoyable and will make it more attractive to a wider audience. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, but I did have a couple of issues with it, I felt that the story itself could have been edited to make it flow a bit smoother as it tended to repeat itself at times. Also, when there were conversations between people I got a bit confused at who was speaking and had to re-read some of it. But all in all, a wonderful and inspiring tale that should be shared and enjoyed by everyone. Warning: Contains strong sexual and violent themes

This Book caught my interest right away. A lot of family drama to start out. Bianca feels left out and does not get along with her Mother, brother and sister but usually does get along with her Dad. She has a best friend Carrie that helps her a lot emotionally. Bianca and Carrie try out for cheerleading and then how to cheerleading camp but end up being assigned to different rooms, Bianca gets put in the room with the girls that are mean to her. Bianca decides to leave the camp and takes off in the middle of the night. She ends up getting picked by a guy that sells her to another guy who also going to sell her to someone else. He uses her to make money from other men and he is also very mean to her. She makes friends with a worker that and he helps her escape but he gets killed doing it. She makes it to help and he takes to a hotel by a beach and she takes up with a guy name Liam and a adventure with him at the beach. But then come to find out he is actually using her and his friends rob and rape her. She then ends up in a homeless shelter. She leaves there and then works in a restaurant for a year. She meets Dale there, they marry but after they marry he is very mean to her and hurts her really bad , so bad he has to take her to the hospital. She recovers and is nice for a while but then did it again because of her being pregnant. He turns himself in. In the end she end up going back to her family but finds out some bad news went getting there. This is a very involved book, very interesting done, it kept me wandering what was going to happen next.

I received the book from the author for an honest review.Wow what an inspirational read. Brianca is your typical teenager. She feels as if her mother doesn't love her, thinks she prefers her younger siblings to her. Low self esteem, never feeling good enough. After some mean girls tormented her at cheer camp she decided to run away. This is the start of her heart breaking adventure. She ends up being picked up by a man who shows her a wonderful time then sells her to another man who uses her before selling her to someone else. This man sells her out to other men. After a friend helps her escape, she ends up trusting all the wrong men along the way.Ending up fighting for her life. I was really surprised this book has a happy ending after everything Brianca went through. I found myself crying through some of the book. It just breaks your heart. Then rejoicing for the times she picked up and moved on. It was such a sad story but with light at the end. Makes you wonder how anyone could go through all that and come out of it a kind, wonderful person.

Exceptional Read!I said this was exceptional because I really can’t think of another word to describe the book. It really spoke to my heart in many ways. I am on the board of directors of a women’s shelter for sexual abused women and that may have something to do with it. This book was very hard for me to put down. The story was about a teenage, Brianca, who has what normal teenagers have which is issues with their parents especially her mom. Brianca does what many girls do and that’s runaway. The story goes through Brianca’s life as a runaway and does it well. My heart was breaking with every page. The author does a great job of developing each character and making them believable. The story is a hard one to read when you know this is what many young women go through each year in our county. I applaud Pam Funke for writing about such a difficult subject and doing such a great job about it.I received the book for an honest review but that didn’t have any bearing my review.

What an amazing book! This would be a good book for that required summer reading that schools seem to ask the kids to do. A teenage girl makes a bad decision and finds it snowballing. Brianca starts by thinking that her parents don't care about her and starts disrespecting her family. That leads to her running away from cheerleading camp. Each time she thinks she finds an escape from one bad decision, she finds that the "glittery" answer is not always gold. Each time she thinks she has found real love or someone who really cares about her, she finds that she has not taken the time to really know the person- and that can have extreme consequences. The whole time God is trying to call her back and she just refuses to listen. In the end, she finds out about real love and how to find it- or rather wait for it. This book reads like someone's actual testimony. I was given a beta copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I found the book a stay up late, can't put it down, page turning style of book. However, with that being said I found parts of it hard to get though because of its subject matter and yet it is all around us. This book deals with family dysfunction, low self worth, RAPE, being sold into the sexual slave trade and therefore prostitution, bullying, and spousal abuse. It starts out as a young 17 year old going off to cheerleading camp with her best friend and there she is bullied and runs away. This book does have a happy ending where she finds her way back to God and finds happiness along the way. This book is not for everyone but could be a good parent child discussion starter HOWEVER a parent should read it first. Not really for anyone under 16 or 17. At least that would be my recommendation. I received this book free from the author for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I could relate with the daughter from when I was a kid, but I relate with the mom too with my own children. Brianca has a hard time feeling like she fits in anywhere and runs away from cheer camp in the early hours of the morning and never looks back. She is kidnapped and sold into human trafficking. After escaping she meets the man of her dreams and gets married. Her husband beats the puddin outta her. Can she ever get things turned around? Is it too late for her or is God still right there beside her? This book has put me through a LOT of different emotions. It has made me happy, sad, angry, scared, frustrated and so much more. I really liked this story, it's not exactly like every other story out there and I appreciate that. I recommend this book.

This book had me from the beginning. Pam did a wonderful job of creating the characters and allowing you to visualize them. Bri, the main character literally could be anyone's teenage daughter. She sees her home life completely differently than the rest of the family. It shows how a simple event can be perceived SO differently depending on the person. This book follows Bri and her choices, and the consequences of those choices. It's riveting, sad, spiritual, and happy. Her journey is not an easy one, but you feel like you're with her every step of the way. I would recommend this book, and have to many of my friends. The ONLY reason it's a 4 star instead of a 5 is there were a couple mistakes made during editing where a couple words were characters so you had to guess at what that word was. But the story, and the writing is worth 5 stars, and sharing!! GREAT job Pam.

This book was an awesome read for me, even though there were some awful things that happened to the main character. As I read, I cried, cringed, laughed & rejoiced. I am glad that the final result was a happy ending, but there are plenty of bad & sad things that happen in the course of the book. This book, to me, is an awesome testimony to the power of God's love & forgiveness (no matter what you've been through - or where you are coming from). I plan on buying the final published copy, and I believe most women would enjoy reading this book.

Brianca Euley faced much danger; being a rebellious teen, all her bad choices led her down the road to devastation. She can’t find love in men, in night-clubs or anywhere that the world would offer as fun and exciting. As a matter of fact all these things she will find out lead only to emptiness, loneliness and danger. There is one and only one that will fill the void in her life and that is her savior Jesus Christ. How far will Brianca go down the path of desolation before she allows God to rescue her? This is a book I would recommend to anyone who is searching for true love. Girls and women in particular who feel like they are not loved; who are not finding contentment in what the world has to offer. Read this book and see where searching for love in the wrong places led Bri and how she finally found what she really needed. This is an eye-opener story that I hope will witness true love to the reader.

I loved and hated this book, the situation which bianca found herself in was upsetting and I kept thinking "you are so stupid". So many of the situation could have been different if she was smarter and had more self confidence, but that's what made it a great book it got you thinking and involved.
