Blurb tells you what you get - narcissistic college jock meets scorned, introverted, and smartass high school girl. Sparks fly as he wants in her pants and eventually her heart. Meanwhile, she gives in to her body's desire but keeps her heart guarded. ^^^ It's a storyline I've seen and read repeatedly, some done better and some done worse. Nothing special or new. The main focus of the storyline is romance. There are a few emo r/t themes about parental pressure to perform, but not a lot of actual sports scenes or angst themes r/t sports.Older Readers BewareI didn't read carefully and thought that I was getting a college forward NA book ... Whoops:/ What I got was YA with sex and juvenile drama set to the marching band of her absentee parents. In other words, she's free to run amuck through the nights, go off on a wine-drinking couple vacation, and have boyfriend sleepovers 2 hours away. He's in college and acts like a typical God's gift manho athlete. She's going into her senior year of high school (18-years-old) and acts her age with melodrama and typical teen angst. I'm guessing that a younger audience 17-21 would probably enjoy this book. The jock is sweet, horny, & stupid. The female is saucy, horny, and shy. Older readers not looking to relive high school... Probably skip this one. I started already & just decided to finish it on out. The pacing is fine. The plot is weak in a simplistic way, but at least it doesn't have holes. As An AdultFuck if that doesn't make me sound like my mom, ehhhh. Anyway, as an adult with a brain full of 35-years-worth of BS experience, I didn't really respect the end of this book. The female MC was shit on by a guy when she was a sophomore. Imagine this... ... If the late Paul Walker would won his bet. In the closing chapters of the book, the jock learns who the villain is and doesn't believe the FMC. Two weeks pass by (instantly) before the jock realizes his error and grovels for forgiveness (about a one page' worth.) Yes, we all make mistakes, but I hate the idea that the youth of the world get the message ^^^ that is love. And, I hate for young single ladies to even consider that love would involve a man believing a semi-buddy over the woman he supposedly "loves." And, I hate the messages that an "I'm sorry" fixes everything.^^^ That is how, five years later, we end up with TSTL, doormats in the adult book who are flabbergasted to find out Betty Boobs has been in her bed, in her house, riding her husband like a donkey for the last four and a half years lol. Just sayin~ Anyhow, the groveling scene falls into the epilogue a year later, which is basically a couple of pages to prove they made it a year.Bottom LineMe...Teen readers...

This review was originally posted at Tina, The Bookworm. I was torn between 3 and half stars and four stars. I went ahead and gave Pitching to win four stars. What this rating really should be is “THANK YOU CARRIE ARRONS FOR GETTING ME OUT OF MY BOOK HANGOVER!” unfortunately Amazon and Goodreads don't allow me to give that kind of rating so four stars it is. Pitching to Win is my first baseball romance with the actual baseball included, so yes I know that doesn’t make a lot of sense but the other books I have read with baseball kind of just said oh so and so is a baseball player but never give you an insight on baseball. Pitching to win actually taught me a little bit of baseball and now I may need to actually keep up with my baseball team and of course google hot baseball players. Like I mentioned I was in a book hangover like a seriously bad one where every book I picked up was blah and I felt like it was homework to read. But thankfully the bookish gods helped a girl out and brought me Pitching to win a perfect light, fluffy, cute romance. AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW BOOK HANGOVER IS GONE! Our StoryPitching to win is definitely a light, fluffy, cute romance. There is a bit of instalove but you know what I loved the most about Minka and Owen. The banter. The sarcasm and their relationship that wasn’t purely based on sex but on actually getting to know each other, having Netflix marathons like REAL couples. I hate to admit this and that goes to show just how many romance novels I truly read, so I was about 50% in and nothing had gone wrong! I was like waiting and waiting for the other shoe to drop because seriously this couldn’t have been more perfect. I was seriously worried I’d hate this book if it didn’t have some dramatic feel to it. But it did and it definitely pushed me into loving this book and wanting to continue the series. It’s definitely the perfect solution to the a book hangover. And it brings both the high school and college world together. Owen is in college and Minka is in high school. I wasn’t entirely sure how that was going to work out but it did and I need more books like this. This is a page turner and I loved every minute of it. Our CharactersMinka is our leading lady and she has gone through something so mean. I really felt sorry for her. I also liked how sarcastic she was and how that didn’t change around Owen. What I didn’t like was the self-doubt and the doubting in Owen so many times. But I definitely understood her fears and she had every right to those fears but c’mon girl he was hot and seriously romantic. Owen is now the reason I will begin to watch baseball, I didn’t realize so many good looking men played baseball and looked so good doing it. Okay I’m getting out of hand here sorry, anyway, he isn’t the total douchebag jock we are used to. Let me tell you I am tired of those. Owen he’s different, he knows his usual approach to girls wasn’t going to work on Minka so he really upped his game and really proved to be different from other jock guys who are jerks. I personally thought Owen did the most growing as a character for me. I felt like he really did go above and beyond for Minka. Minka took her time growing she did have a minor set back where she did go into high school mode which is understandable because she is in high school. But for me, Owen totally won me over. OverallIf Carrie Aarons decides to continue this story (Team Miles & Chloe right here) I NEED TO READ THAT BOOK. So yup, if this series continues expect to see more reviews on it because I am certain that Carrie will spark my love for other baseball players. For a debut novel it was good and I can’t wait to see how this (hopefully) series turns out and seeing Carrie grow as an author. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review, this does not influence my opinion in any shape or form.

Another baseball-themed romance that was fun-to-read, but nothing different or out of the ordinary. So many of these sports-themed romances these days are simply a replace the names and locations and you've got yourself the same NA college-aged angst with the popular jock who rules the campus and stumbles right into the beautiful but not-so-popular and outgoing girl of his dreams. Even the likable and jaw-dropping sports gods alone just aren't getting it done for me these days. I want something unique and new. There were some glaring errors (not tons but enough) that drove me a little crazy (ex. "pour" that should have been "pore"). A good line by line proofread would have caught these types of problems. And for grinches like me, it matters.

Minka is about to start her final year in high school and is enjoying her summer break with her friends in their hometown. The last 18 months have been rough on her. She was the victim of an incredibly mean bet and as a result of that her self-confidence was completely knocked out. She prefers to keep her head down and blend in quietly.Minka is very cautious around guys and trust is not something that takes lightly. When she meets Owen Axel, the town golden boy athlete, her defences are on high alert. Why is this guy talking to her, there must be a hidden camera somewhere or maybe he has been dared by someone? There is no way someone from the 'in' crowd would ever lower themselves to talk to someone from the 'out' crowd."You're this perfect person. Everyone wants to include you. I have never been that way. And I don't mind it being the outsider." - MinkaOwen is away at college studying and also training to go pro in baseball. For the last two years he has had his fun with parties and girls who are more than happy to give themselves to him. He is kind of over that now and Minka completely intrigues him. It may be that she isn't falling over herself to be with him or it may be her witty, smart comebacks that leave him wanting to get to know her more."Her sarcasm and biting comebacks surprised me. No chick had ever talked to me like that. Usually they didn't do much talking. But is actually left me wanting more." - OwenThese two have very different lives, one is 'in' and one is 'out.' Owen has grown up in a very wealthy lifestyle, whereas Minka lives an average life. These two have more in common than they first realise. Minka shows him how to appreciate the simple things in life. Owen slowly builds up her confidence and shows her just how beautiful she is."How could I not touch you? How could I not worship you? God look at you" - OwenI love how much they both change when they realise that they each have someone who believes in them, that they have found this amazing connection in each other. I liked the slow build, it all happened at the perfect pace. This was a really sweet story of first love.

Pitching this a 4.5 stars !Minka is an unassumingly gorgeous hip-hop &rap-loving book nerd. A painfully humiliating experience had made her put walls around her heart and shield herself from men.Owen is the sexy 8 pack Golden Boy baseball superstar, the hometown hero, who can get any girl he wants without effort. Except Minka. As the Summer unfolds, they both realize that they had many things in common, and they could not get enough of each other. When the cause of Minka's pain shows up, wounds are reopened, trust is broken, and their love is tested.Pitching to Win is actually the first baseball sports romance I've read. I've started to take some interest about the sport because of Carrie Aarons' vibrant writing. I even learned a new term, Toreplay(ing). LolThis was her debut novel. And although I caught a few typos and tiny grammatical errors (which is a common occurrence even for seasoned writers with excellent editors), I could say, " Wow! She's one to watch out for." She may be new in the arena, but she is equipped with all the goods. I'm really looking forward to reading her next books.I heard she's working on Hitting To Win , Book 2 of her Over The Fence Series, featuring Miles & Chloé 's story. I'm sure this is going to be equally good , if not even better than her first novel.

This is a cute new adult story about high school love, rampant insecurities and sweet redemption. Minka is an upcoming senior in high school but she’s been majorly burned by her peers and those scars still ache. When Owen, king of the popular crowd, comes home from college and approaches her at a high school party Minka is extremely wary of his intentions.Owen isn’t to be dissuaded – there’s something about Minka that he realizes is different and he wants to know more. AND then the push-pull-cat-mouse-relationship-back-and-forth begins. This book is adorable and sweet and very typical new adulty. Which is absolutely okay and enjoyable, but I found myself rolling my eyes at times. While it was slightly melodramatic at times for my taste there were other moments that had me giggling like a schoolgirl. Owen is over the top sweet, and of course – over the top hot. There was plenty of steam to leave you overheated and more than enough romance to satisfy your desire to swoon. Aaron’s debut didn’t hit it out of the park for me, but it definitely rounded third. I’m looking forward to seeing what she comes up with next! 3.5 stars![I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review]This review looks prettier on my blog: http://obsessedwithmyshelf.com/2015/1...

Short and Sweet Mini ReviewThis was a quick and actually fun read. I thought that the author walked the line between the older edge of the Young Adult world merging into the New Adult world well with the characters. I liked both Minka and Owen. Minka, despite the fact that she’s kept herself to the fringes due to a heinous situation, is quite a strong character. She’s snarky, intelligent and while is very much like many girls her age, she is also a little more grounded than most. Owen is in many ways the typical golden boy in the looks department and in baseball. He’s got the arrogance and yet it’s tempered by his sweetness and charm though he can be quite clueless, which had me wanting to smack him upside the head a few times. I liked how their relationship progressed. The attraction and crazed hormone moments were there and that huge pothole pissed me off, but the push and pull and how the worked their issues out worked for me. Now to see what’s in store for Miles and Chloe.

I randomly decided to pick up this book. I had no idea it was going to be so hot or so good. I loved the characters, the story, and pretty much everything. I loved the take on the bad boy who is not so much changed by the girl, but still doesn't have her come easy. I also loved how Minka was not your typical heroine. She not only made Owen work for her, but also was tough as nails. I could not put this book down and it's a total scorcher. Besides Owen and Minka, I loved Minka's friends Chloe and Kelsey and I hope they get their own books. I also would love to see them paired with Owen's hot baseball player team mates and friends.Carrie Aarons debut novel is amazing. I've read almost all of her other books and finally got around to the one that started them all. It was wonderful to see how strong her story telling skills are and much stronger they've become with time. She's really an author who I feel is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered by other readers. I'd strongly recommend this book!

Pitching to Win is a light, easy and sweet read. Minka is a sweet and sassy girl still in high school. Her father is not around much, always at work. Minka's mother passed during child birth. She had a rough sophomore year when a popular guy does her wrong just to win a bet with his friends. She is now a senior and has trust issues when it comes to guys. Owen is in college and went to the same high school as Minka. Star baseball player, popular with the in crowd and the ladies. On summer break, Minka catches Owens attention. She keeps her guard up not understanding why another popular guy is trying to get with her again. Owen doesn't give up and slowly wears Minka's guard down. I enjoyed watching the relationship bloom and their banter between the two of them. There is not much drama in the story, but an enjoyable read. I'm ready to read the next book that involves their friends. Miles caught my attention and I want to find out why he is so grumpy. Great read and Thank you!! •• I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. ••

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun and easy read and pulled on my heartstrings a little bit. Minka (Um, coolest name ever) was so sassy and headstrong. I love a reluctant heroine because I love watching them fall ridiculously in love even though they fight it to no end. It makes the story interesting to me and I think Carrie executed that perfectly. Axel (Um, coolest name ever part two) was so charming and sexy. He totally saw through Minka's shield and fought for her and I love heroes like that. He wasn't cocky about it either. He was very genuine. He really just liked her for her and that made the read really refreshing. I think anyone who likes sports romances and romances in general will enjoy this book like I have. It was great.

Carrie Aarons pitched a perfect game with her book Pitching To Win, the first book in the Over The Fence Series. I fell in love with Minka and Owen throughout this story, the struggles that they each faced, although for entirely different reason, they were able to find comfort in knowing that the other understood them better. A story about not always taking things at face value, not judging by what you have heard or what you think you know, but on who the person really is. This book was a 3.5 star read for me and I highly recommend this series to others!Owen is the town golden boy, a left handed pitcher, with a famous former MLB father, who is playing his way through college and hoping to be drafted. Always having it easy when it comes to girls, Owen is home from college for the summer where he plans to work out for baseball, drink, and pick up girls. He never intended to fall for Minka Braxton and have her invade every inch of his carefully guarded heart. Owen finds himself wanting Minka more than he wants baseball sometimes, and the calm she brings to his stress filled life is something that he desperately needs. Minka Braxton is entering her senior year of high school with one goal in mind besides doing well academically, she wants to stop allowing others to bully her for the mistakes of her past. When she "meets" Owen at the first summer party she throws so much sass in his face that she knows he will move on to an easier girl who will willingly drop her panties at the sound of his voice. Little does she know that Owen doesnt give up easily and he is determined to get to know Minka in ways that he never has before with a girl.A story filled with longing, repaired relationships, friends that will stand by you no matter what and a slow growing love, Pitching to Win, will grab you heart and never let go as you read. I promise that you wont be disappointed. And the last thing I have to say is Carrie Aaron, bring on Miles!!!!!! I CANNOT wait to read his story.

Pitching to Win is the first book in Carrie Aarons "Over the Fence" series. You can currently get the whole series on KU! It's told from alternative first person POVs between the main characters, it does have an HEA and there is no cliff hanger. There were some things I could give or take with this book. I almost feel as if it's a second chance romance, only its not. I think the thing that I enjoy most about it though, is that it's real. The author is fantastic with pointing out that life isn't perfect, nor is any one person. We all make mistakes. She ties it into her writing flawlessly.Ms. Aarons also does a great job of leading into the second and third books in the series from the get go. That being the case, it's easy to understand how I devoured the whole series in two days. I just had to know what happened with all these characters! :D

Minka and Owen *dreamy sigh*With NA books, I'm all about the pacing and if it works or not. And Carrie Aarons totally made this work. There isn't like instant, unexplainable "OMG I love you so much," but there is enough constant flirting that it hooks you in and made me not want to put this one down.Owen is for sure my new book boyfriend, he's not pushy and overbearing like some of these other heroes, but he does use his charm to his advantage. The friends that surround these two break up the emotional baggage of their love story with humor, and its so well written that it only helped me fall in love with the story more.

OH MY GOD. When I say I couldn't put this book down...THAT IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT! I bought it the day it came out, and read the entire thing in one sitting.I am a huge sports fan, and this book fed my baseball cravings. Minka and Owen's flirty, steamy interactions kept me on the edge of my seat, and the cast of characters surrounding them were hilarious! This book has everything you could want in a NA read: flirting, sexy stuff, heartbreak, and a HAE.I can't wait for the next book in this series!

*ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review*3.5 Stars... I wanted to give this recent read a bit of a spotlight review. I think it's fairly common knowledge that I love a good sports story, so I was definitely curious about this one. Minka knows all too well how it feels to be the ongoing joke among the popular crowd. After being the butt on a humiliating prank she avoids any time in the social limelight preferring to stay out the outskirts of all the activity. Her plan works relatively well until baseball star Owen Axel sets his eyes on her. I found this read to be pretty refreshing. I was wary of the drama level when I realized the one of the MCs was still a high school student, but Minka surprised me. I kept expecting out of proportion blowups but I was very pleased to see that the majority of the story felt extremely realistic. The progression of Minka and Owen's relationship was fitting to their situations in life and I enjoyed that it flowed pretty swiftly. It also touched on some topics that I enjoyed watching develop. These include Minka's self confidence, and both her and Owen's strained relationships with their respective parents. It's these relationships that made the book stand out for me. I was torn between 3.5 stars and 4 stars for most of the the book. I settled on 3.5 stars and here's why. While most of the book is noticeably absent of the unneeded angst and conflict, there was some drama. It's not the drama that I minded. It might have been a little too perfect without any... BUT the drama that did come didn't sit well with me. I think it's just because I didn't find the reactions to the "revelation" fitting with the character. Maybe I just had a higher expectation from them at the point that it all went down - which could also be a compliment to how much I enjoyed the maturity (of Owen especially). That being said, I still really enjoyed it and would look forward to reading a continuation of the story. I felt like the author gave us a really good set up for future stories to come that would focus on Minka and Owen's friends. I definitely would follow this one to see what comes. I hope you give it a read, especially if you're in the mood for a sweet young love story with a swoon worthy baseball player!

Pitching To Win is the first book in the Over The Fence series. I absolutely love books about jocks.. especially baseball jocks, and this book hit a home run on my field! I would give this book a 4 stars and definitely recommend to others. This story does touch on a sensitive subject that a lot of teenagers will experience because bullying unfortunately in this society is huge, so that being said I want to give this author a huge high five for making this story seem real and believable. Minka and Owen's journey is not an easy one but its quite explosive from the start. Can Minka let down her barriers she has built around her young heart or will her insecurities get the best of her and ruin any chance of making it work with Owen? Can Owen be the person everyone wants him to be or will he finally find a way to just be himself with out all the glory of popularity and fame? Go get this book you won't be disappointed and the side characters in this story were amazing as well and can't wait to read about there stories as well.. so stay tuned for Hitting To Win Book 2 Miles and Chole's journey and we all know this one is going to be a bumpy ride but one that I can't wait for! Thanks Carrie Aarons for a great book and I look forward to much more from you in the future.

Minka has never been one to be in the spotlight. She just wants to be loved, but when the one she trusted preys on her innocence, showing his betrayal to the while school leaving her to be ridiculed and alone, well let's just say that left a mark on her. The beautiful, and rich people hurt you, stay away, never give in.Owen the golden boy of his home town and school is back and sees the beauty that is Minka, only she doesn't fall at his feet. Something he isn't used to, he find that he likes it more than anything and wants to know her even more. Perfection is something he understands and strives for and usually is lacking, in the eyes of his father. So when he begins his pursuit of Minka, he is all to aware of how hard he will have to fight to show her how perfect she is and how they could be together. The past however has a way of creeping up and shattering all that has been recovered and built anew.Endearing and loving those are the words I would use to describe this amazing read that I gobbled up in a day...I kid you not. I couldn't put it down. Owen is far from perfect but is willing to prove that he can be. Minka has to learn to trust, something that can easily be broken. Their struggles will make them stronger and stand the test of time. The only part I didn't like was when I realized I was done reading. Can't wait to get my hand on Book two!!!

This is a rather short and light story. But it isn’t all that simple. The characters are developed and they are pretty original. But the story is a bit known. The all time star falls in love with the normal girl who doesn’t believe in herself. Characters Minka: Is a girl who doesn’t really know how to live with the attention she got from Owen. She has stiuff going on in her life that make her want someone to talk to. She gives in pretty quickly, but there’s always something that’s holding her back…Owen: He can be really nice, but doesn’t really remember how to be just that, … Nice. He can be dirty mouthed and he can be very convincing but he wants her. He does know how to get her, but sometimes giving up is easier than pulling through. StorylineThe star of the school falls in love during the summer, the normal girl needs someone but doesn’t know to really let him in. They grow close together, but will they make it? TitleHe was pitching to win, and not just a game. This time the first price was Minka. Lovely!EndingA happy one! That made me happy as well. I can’t wait to read the next couple of books. But there is still some waiting left to do. I’m giving this book 4.5 stars!

Minka has not had an easy life: her mum died in childbirth; being raised by a non-existent dad, and being used and ridiculed at school. You can completely understand her caution when star pitcher, Owen, shows an interest in her, distrusting his motives. Owen, though, is completely different from the others in the 'in' crowd. He is completely down to earth and is mostly oblivious to the drama around as he has to deal with constant put downs from his own dad. Can he convince Minka to give him a chance? This takes you back to the drama, pettiness and alliances of high school. Minka is incredibly mature for her age with everything she has been through but wants to be loved for who she is. Owen is very similar in some ways but has a tendency to act immaturely without thinking things through. High school drama has been kept on the down low to provide us with an opportunity to see Owen and Minka's relationship develop. There will be times when you want to bang their heads together to knock some sense into them but these are characters you can completely relate to.***Reviewed for LBM Book Blog***

I received this book in return for my honest review. Yes, there a lot of NA books with very similar plot lines. Different names and places, but generally the bare bones are the same, hot, popular guy meets beautiful, intelligent, yet somehow unpopular girl. And I think the reason is that that this is a plot line that works well, it's relatable and fun.Having said that I would like to read something with a different spin for a change.Owen is the all star baseball player, he cannot put a foot wrong, except in his fathers eyes he is lazy failure. Hidden beneath the cocky exterior is a fragile guy trying to make his overbearing father proud.Ninja is beautiful and cleaver but became the school joke after a boys bet was made. Shaken and sworn off men she isolated herself from her peers. That's is until Owen finds her at a party and desires to Pursue her, and you can imagine the rest (no spoilers from me) :) This was a fun, quick and easy read and I will read book two asap.Claire

Pitching to win by Carrie Aarons***ARC received in exchange for an honest review - Sanne / Scandalous Book Blog***Minka Braxton has had her fair share of problems in high school. So when the schools golden boy decides to make a move on here she is suspicious. Owen Axel just returned home from college for the summer and just wants to let loose. What he didn’t take into account was the beautiful girl showing up for one of the parties he’s attending.A girl haunted by a high school scandal - a boy who’s popularity still gets the best of him. Will these two be a perfect match or will past events remain to haunt them?I found this to be a cute novel that was pretty mainstream yet had a few of its own twists and turns. Around the 90% mark : tsk tsk tsk! ;-) Bad boy, bad boy.Side note: I’m very curious about Mile’s and Chloe’s book - now that will have to be an entertaining read - definitely after what we’ve seen of them in this book.

I really did like this book. I received it for an honest review and would like to thank the author for the opportunity. I would even give it a little more than 4 stars.Minka was used to not being part of the in crowd and always a little on the outside. She decided to not let it bother her as much anymore since being humiliated at a party. Then she re-meets Owen. The golden boy in her town who's two years oldee than her. Owen doesn't remember her but they instantly feel their connection. Minka tries to deny it at first but can't help but give in to the temptation that is one after a while. It's a wonderful teenage sports romance. I really did like it except for some odd things such as both their parents giving them a hard time and just suddenly at the same time even they apologize and want to change. Another thing is the breakup before the hea which seemed kind of forged.Anyway I'd really recommend it to everyone who likes a sweet love story that may be predictable but still is cute.

For Full review check out http://bookplusheart.weebly.com/conte...High School can be a cruel place. I think most people either loved high school or loathed it. I was in-different. Some things I liked and other stuff not so much. For Minka, high school was her walking hell. She was an extroverted person. With her dad as the town’s police chief and her mother deceased, she’s been raising herself for most of her life. Minka loves her solitude and reading. Her two best friends, Chloe and Kelsey drag her to a part one night, and many things change for her.

I was given an ARC for and honest review. Pitching to win is the first book in over the fence series. I love the banter and sacrasmm between the characters. Minka is a high school student who hasn't had it easy. She was a victim of a bet by a senior, that she now has hard time trusting people because of it and tries to be on the outside. Owen is your typical college jock who everyone likes. When they meet up Minka doesn't fall for Owen's usual lines. So he does what he can to get her to give him a chance. I can't wait for book 2 to come out.

Carrie Aarons hit a home run with her 1st book! Wow, I devoured this book yesterday. Minka & Owen heated up the page with sexual tension until the point of explosion. Hot Hot Hot! When Owen does what all men do at some point in romance novels - I was pissed! How could he? You'll have to read and see who it turns out but damn "Pitching To Win" deserves praise for a rookie outing... Off to read "Hitting To Win"!

I read the blurb and thought it sounded good I like to read something different .Owen is the all star baseball player, he cannot put a foot wrong, except in his fathers eyes he is a failure. I don't normally read high school romance because I don't like reading about kids having sex but the blurb sounded interesting so I gave it a chance. Great plot, great characters, great set-up for future books with secondary characters.
