ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest reviewLisa Swallow delivers a crazy, sexy, intense whirlwind of drama, music and romance in her newest release, Cadence , a spin-off of the Blue Phoenix Series.Readers will get in lost in a palpable rocker romance that will have our hearts beating the same tune. When Tegan Hughes shows up announced on her rockstar's brother Blue Phoenix European Tour, she never expected to have such a strong connection to Ruby Riot's guitarist, Jax Lewis. Keeping away from Jax and his rockstar image proves to be harder than she thought when both Jax and Tegan have this intense connection to one another. As Jax's popularity continues to rise, Tegan's relationship with him begins to get tested when the media and fans are made aware of their romantic relationship. Can Tegan handle being a rockstar's girlfriend? And can Jax understand Tegan's needs to pursue her own dreams and passion?Cadence is the perfect example of what it means to be in a relationship. Ms. Swallows allows her readers to understand both perspective of her characters in an organic and raw way. She has written Tegan and Jax's relationship in a beautiful, heartfelt manner allowing readers like myself to feel and understand the struggles that they have to face. Though their relationship may have been scrutinized by the public, Tegan and Jax knew that they had to make it work in order for them to fulfill both their dreams and aspirations. Cadence reminds us all that trust, understanding, respect, and communication is the key into making any relationship work. So if you are looking for a book, where you are introduced to a fresh new rocker band who will leave a lasting impression then I would definitely recommend you to read Cadence. I love Lisa's Blue Phoenix series and having only recently read Jem and Ruby's story (which was my favorite of all the books) I was really looking forward to reading Cadence. Overall, it was a very enjoyable read and I can't wait to read Nate and Riley's story next. From what I learned previously, Jax is a total man-slut but he has a heart of gold underneath that player persona. What I didn't realize until I read Cadence is that he's drowning in this new world that he's been thrust into, and he doesn't have the self-discipline required to keep on the straight and narrow. At times, he was extremely immature and way out of line, but, for the most part, I felt an urge to mollycoddle him and shower him with love.Tegan has begged her brother Bryn to let her tour with him and he reluctantly agrees. The minute she meets Jax they form an instant connection and I just knew the sparks were going to fly. Jax's star is ascending and he's in hot demand. Tegan doesn't want to be another one of his groupies so she tries her best to stay away from him. When that proves impossible, she insists that they try dating in an attempt to have a normal relationship. As they grow closer, they often grow further apart. Both are young and relatively inexperienced, and they most definitely are not equipped with the wherewithal to deal with the intrusive press and Jax's obsessive fan base. While Jax is sweet and protective of Tegan, there is no ignoring his destructive side. While Tegan is falling hard for him, she worries he will bring her down. Eventually, they deal with their demons, and the obstacles to their love and they get their HEA in the end.I really enjoy Lisa's writing style and her last book was exceptional - her best book in my opinion. The writing in this one was not quite as good but still well executed. I felt the plot dragged a little in the second half, was quite repetitive in places, and some of the dialogue was cringeworthy. However, it didn't impact my overall enjoyment and I will definitely continue the series. If you enjoy rockstar romances, you should check out Lisa's Blue Phoenix series. Summer Sky, Book 1, is free to download and all the other books are on sale this week. Thanks to the author and Inkslinger PR for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. This review will be posted to my blog in November. Oh, and I love that stunning cover. Beautiful.

Cadence is book 1 in the Ruby Riot series, and the spin off series from the hugely popular and addictive Blue Phoenix series. In Cadence we follow lead guitarist and Ruby Riot eye candy, Jax. Ruby Riot are starting to climb up the Rock Star ladder, and have the most amazing job of being a follow up act for Blue Phoenix on their European tour. Which means we also get glimpses of the Blue Phoenix boys in this book too!! Leading lady this time is the feisty, spirited, and totally independant younger sister of Blue Phoenix drummer Bryn, Tegan. Tegan is gorgeous, and knows what she wants, not only is she cashing in on the promise big brother Bryn made her, to join a Blue Phoenix tour when she was old enough, but she is also continuing her passion for travelling, and getting to see some of Europe. Well, she was until she bumped into rock's latest pin up, Jax Lewis. As much as Tegan wants to avoid getting into anything, with any men on this opportunity of a lifetime. She soon realises, Jax is not just any man. He is incredibly hard to resist, and once he realises Tegan is not like all the other girls, and someone he actually wants to get to know, not just get in her pants, Jax is prepared to pull out all the stops to try and get her. As suited as this couple is, and as much as the chemistry sizzles between them. Things are inevitably going to turn a little crazy. Jax is hot property now, and not everyone agrees with him choosing to spend his time with just 1 girl. Cue the ugly side of the rock star life. Cadence is a perfect example of trying to make something work, when obstacles are thrown left, right, and centre. But Jax and Tegan are determined to crush them, and prove they can be together despite the obstacles. But the journey to get there is a little crazy, and things get a bit too much at certain points. Well for someone who doesn't actually read Rock Romance books, and can count on 1 hand how many she has read, and most of those are the same author, I have to say this series really is for everyone. Not only did author Lisa Swallow crack it with the addictive Blue Phoenix, and had everyone drooling over one of the four gods of the stage, she has now shown she can bring it again, with a younger fresh band. Different issues, obstacles, personalities, and egos. She can handle them all, and have everyone addicted all over again. I don't normally follow the rock star stories, but this is one author I will read absolutely anything by, because she can make any subject entertaining and gripping. Have you coming back for more, and drooling over long hair, even when you don't find long hair attractive!! Her writing is that good!As this is book 1 in a new and fresh series, it's not absolutely necessary (in my opinion) to have read the Blue Phoenix series first. It helps, but it's not a must. If you haven't read them, and decide to start Cadence, believe me you will soon be hunting out the other series. These characters and their lives are completely addictive, you will even want to read about the random stranger in the back of the tour, just because you have to read everything from this world!Definitely go check this out today. It's intense, funny, sexy and will leave you wanting more!!5 huge stars!

If you are a fan of Lisa Swallow's Blue Phoenix Series, or even if you have never read any of her books you will enjoy Cadence, the first book in her Ruby Riot series. It is a spin-off of her Blue Phoenix Series and while it is enjoyable to catch up with the characters, this can be read as a stand alone. You will not be disappointed with this fantastic story.Teagan Hughes is finally going on tour with her older brother Bryn. He is the drummer for the world famous rock band, Blue Phoenix. He has promised Teagan she could tour with the band since she was a little girl. Teagan has been looking forward to seeing the world for as long as she can remember, but when she arrives Bryn is not very welcoming. He does not want his baby sister to live the rock star lifestyle. Teagan is strong willed and will do anything to stay with the band. She is prepared for almost anything that will come her way while on tour, with the exception of Jax Lewis.Jax Lewis is the lead guitarist and front man for the band Ruby Riot, which is the band opening for Blue Phoenix while on tour. He is living his dream of becoming a rock star. He is making the most of every moment and enjoying each and every perk of being a rising rock star. He works hard and parties harder. He has no trouble when it comes to dating women. He thinks he has everything under control, until he meets Teagan Hughes. I truly enjoyed the chemistry and connection between the characters in this story. They are real and believable. The quick wit, banter and raw emotions portrayed kept me wanting to read more. Both Teagan and Jax are strong willed, and determined to achieve their goals. This can be both a blessing and a curse as they experience the trials and tribulations of being on tour.Lisa Swallow has written a fantastic story with Cadence. I absolutely loved the characters, the story line and the continuation of the minor characters from her Blue Phoenix series. I cannot wait to read about more from these great characters in her next Ruby Riot book! Well done Lisa!

First I will say that I have not read the other books in this series, but I was able to read without confusion. This is a new author to me, and I will read everything this author publishes from here on out. That is how amazed I was with this book. This is a story a rock star romance book. The heat factor was off the charts. The story line was absolutely incredible. I picked this book up and didn't put it down until I finished reading. It really is THAT GOOD!!Ruby Riot is the band opening for Blue Phoenix, hottest rock band around. Jax is the typical bad boy rockstar that has a different girl every night of the week. That is until he meets Tegan, the little sister of the one of the bandmates of Blue Phoenix, which makes her off limits. Bryn makes it clear that Jax is to stay away from Tegan, but the pull is too strong to resist. Jax makes a lot of stupid mistakes and risks losing the most important woman he has ever met. This book is a must read. I wish that I could rate higher than a 5. I have already one clicked the rest of the series.Go one click now. You won't regret it.

**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs:**Cadence is the first book in a new adult series, called the Ruby Riot series. Ruby Riot series is a rock star romance that is a spin off of the Blue Phoenix series. I have not yet read the Blue Phoenix series, but I absolutely love love love how the author worked the spin off series in. Ruby Riot is a newer rock band on their way up the charts, and they are touring with the hugely popular Blue Phoenix. And if that isn't a cool enough tie-in, Cadence brings together the two rock groups from the separate series together via Blue Phoenix's drummer Bryn's younger sister Tegan joining the tour. And guess who she has her eye on? That's right- Jax of Ruby Riot. I thought that was a really, really inventive way to both tie together two different series, but keep them separate enough that they have no problem standing on their own.Tegan is her own woman. She speaks her mind and has no problem holding her own with anyone. I loved that about her. I didn't know quite how it was going to mesh with Jax. Rock stars are used to getting what they want, and it seemed like so was Tegan. And I was right, there are so many battles of the dominant personalities (in different ways) in Cadence, it was kind of fun to read. Jax was half infuriating, half adorable, and gosh darnnit if I didn't love him for that.I don't read a ton of rocker romances, but when I am looking for something bold and in your face, I love to pick up a rock star book to get my fix. And this was a larger than life read. It was a little bit of a cliche with all of the parties, drinks sex and rock and roll, but that isn't really a bad thing. It was what I wanted when I look to this kind of story fix. However, If you like slower build romances that are not quite so crazy, this might not be the genre for you. Cadence was fast paced, and totally fun the whole way. I felt like I was on the road alongside Blue Phoenix and Ruby Riot. And just like any tour, there are twists and turns and surprise potholes waiting for you along the way. Cadence makes me want to go back and grab all the Blue Phoenix series novels and get to know the band a little bit better.Bottom Line: If you love rock star romance and you are looking for a loud, in your face fun (and a little bumpy) romance, check out The Ruby Riot series. Cadence delivers. This review was originally posted on Book Briefs

Lisa Swallow’s Blue Phoenix series was unlike any other rock star romance I’d ever read before. She captures the darker, uglier sides of fame and rock star life and entwines it with romance. So having that thematic vibe follow into a spin-off series was exciting to say the least. Cadence follows two characters that were introduced in the Blue Phoenix series. Keep in mind this can be read as a stand alone. I think it was written really well so that new readers can easily follow along, and veteran readers will be able to catch on to the jokes and actions of the group.I’m going to chalk up my less than stellar rating to a bad day. I can’t even pinpoint what it was specifically that caused my simple like of this book. I just didn’t feel the connection between Jax and Tegan or that love that was worth fighting for. Individually, I didn’t much care for them either. Jax was so-so for me prior to reading and only increased a bit during the book. I did like the way he wanted to be monogamous for Tegan, but it seemed too abrupt and unlikely for him to toss aside his manwhore ways just like that. The constant alcohol and drug use that seemed to occur when he didn't get his way was a bit obnoxious and plain childish, as well. Both characters are young, and that definitely showed, but they acted a bit too young and naive for their age in my honest opinion.Overall, this was a quick and easy read to pass the time. Hopefully, should you choose to read this book/series, you’ll have a more enjoyable experience than I did. If rock star romances are your cup of tea, I’d recommend starting with the Blue Phoenix series and checking out Cadence afterward.

I'm a huge fan of Lisa's Blue Phoenix series and couldn't wait to get started on the Ruby Riot spin-offs. Cadence is the first in the series and did not disappoint! I immediately had a love-hate relationship with Jax. He's the lead guitarist and front man for Ruby Riot, a rock group who is quickly rising to the top. Jax certainly acts the part of a rock star but underneath that persona lies a man who loves deeply but doesn't always know how to express it. He is wild, snarky and parties too hard yet he is passionate, romantic and tender. Tegan's brother is the drummer of Blue Phoenix so she's grown up around the rock and roll lifestyle. She join her brother on the Blue Phoenix/Ruby Riot European tour and falls hard for Jax. He falls hard for her. Typical boy-meets girl love affair? Not exactly. They have serious chemistry and their back-and-forth banter is what a great book is made of. Through many ups and downs we see their relationship develop, wondering up until the last page whether this pair will make it or not. Cadence, quite simply, is fabulous! It can be read as a stand alone however I highly recommend reading all of the Blue Phoenix books because, well, they are truly awesome! I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out. This is absolutely a must-read!

Jax is easy to fall in love with despite the cocky side, "Jax drops my hand. “Holy s***, no! I doubt I’d be standing here if Bryn had found you half-naked. Not my style, Tegan. If a chick wants to take her clothes off for me, that’s her call.” Tegan is one smart cookie she knows how to take advantage of things, "I push his open shirt and jacket from his shoulders. “I don't want any more restraint. If I'm going to get so much crap for being your girlfriend, you'd better make it worth my while.” Jax could be so flirtatious when he wants to be, “there’re plenty of other positions you could be in,” he whispers against my ear." I enjoyed this book I loved the characters and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

'Cadence' was an absolute joy to read. What blew my mind and has lead me to consider this as one of my top romance favourites is the quality of Lisa Swallow's writing itself. From the characters and their chemistry to the development of the rock star world and all its intricacies, the prose pulled me in and created a detailed world I was completely immersed in. Lisa Swallow may just be a master of the ultimate writing triusm "Show, don't tell." It's easy to tell readers that the hero in your story is incredibly attractive. It's a lot more difficult to actually make them feel that, but I can safely say that I was a certified Jax Lewis fan way before finishing the book. I was also impressed with how well the author pulled off the instant attraction between Jax and Tegan. There's chemistry between the two from the moment they meet, but all the "inst love" tropes associated with romance are avoided, and the development of their relationship and the tension between them is convincing. Another thing I especially liked about the book was how it explored the theme of young adults trying to discover and create themselves. Both Tegan and Jax are thrown into many completely new situations during the story, and have to decide not only which direction to take with their relationship in, moment they meet, but all the "insta love" tropes associated with romance are avoided, and the development of their relationship and the tension between them is convincing. I'd recommend 'Cadence' to anyone looking for their next romance read, or just for a great book in general! The quality is excellent all the way through and I'm so glad I decided to give it a try.

Quick recap: Tegan wants to go on tour with her older brother Bryn’s band, Blue Phoenix (this is a spinoff of the Blue Phoenix series, which I have not read), so that she can continue to travel around Europe. Right off the bat she feels an attraction to Jax, guitarist for the opening band, Ruby Riot. Jax has been warned that he’s not to mess with Tegan, but of course the chemistry between the two is off the charts and they end up together. Jax isn’t the type that gets into relationships and Tegan is getting over a messy breakup. Soon the pressure of the rock star life becomes too much and they have to decide if the relationship is worth it.I loved that this is a rock star series that features a non-American band. I’m not sure if that makes a difference to anyone else, but for me, the author did an excellent job of making the tour/rock star experience a little different from what I’ve become accustomed to. My biggest issue though, was that it was really, really angsty. The back and forth, the “love me, love me not”, gets a bit much. I could have done without some of the immaturity of Tegan, and would have liked to have seen a little more development in Jax’s character, especially when called out on his reckless behavior. I did like the dual POV, especially Jax’s perspective and the story was easy to lost in. This is my first book by this author and I will definitely be checking out the rest of her titles!

Typical "rock star" bad boy falls "in love" with girl and he's all about her and "changes" and blah blah. I wish I'd known to count how many times they said "rock star". 22 year old pr person for "the biggest band in the world". And 20 year old runner up. Neither with a degree. Yeah right. Also, these people are like 21/22 and they're a supporting act and have enough music out to do an hour and a half set? (And have "older songs") Nope. Nor do supporting acts get hour and a half sets. After all this...why did I read this? No clue, actually. At least it was from Kindle Unlimited so I didn't spend any money on it.

This writer is good at setting the stage and then going off in unexpected directions, but this one?Just no! The characters were whiny and immature. I wanted to slap them silly. Just 'cause you stamp your foot and flounce that you are AN ADULT doesn't make it so. And getting drunk every time things don't go your way? Nope, not a sign of maturity. How can I buy their HFO ending when I can't even picture them as a couple?I'm going to give this series a pass...

Pretty Tegan is twenty, and her brother Bryn is a rock star in the band Blue Phoenix. She turns up at the start of his band’s tour because he’s been acting really cagey and he once promised her that she could come along, so now she’s forcing the issue.Bryn’s caginess probably has something to do with his own romance. This book kicks off a series starring the characters of the band, Ruby Riot. There’s a previous series starring the characters of the band, Blue Phoenix. There’s may be an earlier book dealing with Bryn that runs concurrent to this one, but I’ve read this book as a stand-alone. Unless the two bozos ear-marked for their own books have complete personality transplants, I’m not keen on more Ruby Riot boys. This is a shame, since I bought the second book because both it and ‘Cadence’ were on sale, so I feel I should at least give it a try. Tegan meets Jax, the twenty-two year old guitarist for up and coming band Ruby Riot. They are opening for Blue Phoenix on their European tour. Jax is twenty-two, and fame’s going to his head. He’s all about hooking up and drinking excessively and is occasionally about getting high. He thinks Tegan is super-hot.This book is first person and narrated by Tegan and Jax. Given their ages and the sources of conflict in this book, it’s pretty clearly in the new adult genre. They are both spoiled and selfish and all about their own drama. Tegan is also a little bit social media, with her blog and her twitter. She and Jax announce their dating status with a selfie on twitter, and Tegan is immediately vilified. I don’t really understand why, other than I vaguely think maybe Selena Gomez got death threats when she started dating Bieber? Anyway, the world would prefer that Jax man ho is way through a pile of groupies, so Tegan starts having a pretty miserable time of it, and decides to go home for a bit.But even before that, before Tegan and Jax start getting naked together, Tegan’s not having the best time. Brother Bryn is very reluctant to have her around, and doesn’t want her to hook up with Jax. Tegan’s not sure she wants to hook up with Jax, who has some work to convince her that he’ll treat her a bit special. Tegan would really like an awesome PR job, but instead gets stuck selling merchandise outside gigs. I didn’t have much sympathy for her, although she did redeem herself by not sulking about it excessively. She also needs rescuing and goes into denial about the circumstances. This is never completely dealt with in the book, which is ok, but it’s worth noting that she does have a very off moment. If you’re not comfortable with accepting her inaction over it, if you expect a romance heroine to actually step up and be heroic when the occasion calls for it, it could become a sticking point for you in the way this plot turns out. When Tegan and Jax do start up, it’s initially on the understanding that this will be a casual, temporary thing. I wish they’d been a bit more romance and a bit less drama about each other.Tegan is young and knows she’s a bit spoiled and after a few life experiences is likely to turn out to be a useful and interesting sort of person. For me, new adult trades heavily on ‘they’ll probably be ok after twenty-five, sorry they’re such jerks right now, but hey, at least they’re sexy.’ It takes what makes teenagers in high school dramas insufferable and adds sexy times. In some ways, I wish it instead took what makes adventurous and independent pre and just teens awesome, adds about ten years, says ‘puberty is done, they’re all a bit bruised by the experience, but they’re now ready to be awesome again.’ And add sexy times.Anyway, what I admired about her the most is that she didn’t fall for Jax’s crap. Which she probably would have done if she was young adult. And Jax did have a lot of crap. When it all gets too much for him, he tells Tegan that she’s the only one keeping him decent, and if she leaves him he’ll probably end up drinking too much and sleeping with a hussy, even though he won’t really want to, because he’s totally into Tegan. But he’ll probably definitely do it, if she’s not around to stop him. Tegan’s not having it. She’s not having all the drinking either, and this is the main source of conflict between these two: Jax needs to grow up and get over himself.Of course, this makes it difficult to like Jax. But then, Jax’s name makes it difficult to like Jax. I’ve started seeing this name around a bit in the rock star romance world, and I’m not loving it. I’m hoping we’ll get to a point soon when it’ll be the name for the doofus annoying secondary character who will never in a million years get his own spin off book. I’m basically indifferent to Jax’s drama. I didn’t hate him. He and Tegan were hot together, if not particularly romantic. The best thing was I only had to skip through one ‘song I wrote for you about my deep feels’ moment. Although maybe that was the romantic bit and I should have broken my ‘don’t read lyrics or poetry in books, they’ll just make you want to kick something’ rule.

Title: CadenceAuthor: Lisa SwallowGenre: New Adult, Contemporary RomanceSeries or Standalone: Standalone Series (Ruby Riot #1)Rating: ★★★★ReviewCadence is the first book I’ve had the pleasure of reading by Lisa Swallow. But with the band of characters that came alive in its pages apart from the main characters, I’m sure won’t be my last.It follows the guitarist for Ruby Riot in Jax and the sister of the drummer for Blue Phoenix. Tegan. A band which I’ve come to learn after doing some research into this author during the reading of the book I’ve learned has already had a series dedicated to it.Now usually when there’s a book with a character named Jax, I’m all over it anyway, but add in a rockstar and I’m all over it. There’s just something about those types of books that draws me into them. This having both and it was a no brainer. Now normally, the first time the main characters come across each other, I’m not affected. It’s in the way their story grows that captures me the most, but here, that aspect started very early on. The first time Jax and Tegan meet, even after finishing the book weeks ago, is still crystal clear in my mind. The hilarity in it. The head slapping “did I really just say that” that I came away with, especially when Jax learns that Tegan isn’t who he thought she was, was expertly done. It bonded me to the characters long before I’m usually connected. So kudos to the author for that. Then the instance that brings them together in a way that’s more than just adversarial, which up until that point it had been based on them both fighting the attraction that’s damn near impossible to deny. I enjoyed that aspect. I enjoyed seeing Jax step away from the typical rockstar reaction to the situation he found himself in and behave like a man. A real human being. I also enjoyed everyone else’s reactions to what he did as well. It read very real to me. Bryn being intense with his protection of his sister and then the others from both bands not wanting to believe that Jax had actually done the right thing and not the pig headed thing.I enjoyed Tegan and Jax together. I think they both challenged each other in a way that wouldn’t have worked with anyone but them. Tegan offering up a way of being that Jax wasn’t used to and Jax introducing her to a side she might not have seen if she’d stayed on the sidelines as just Bryn’s sister. They made mistakes together, blew things out of proportion, fought like an old married couple, but also loved fiercely, cared more than either of them even thought were possible and came alive together in ways previously unknown.I enjoyed that their relationship just wasn’t this whirlwind of perfection and passion. It was a combination of what makes real relationships whether with Rockstars or average people work. It was and they were imperfectly imperfect. The author in my estimation seemed to capture the fan reaction to the news of one of the hottest Rockstars around being off the market very realistically. I can see fans acting this way even though I don’t live the lifestyle. In fact, all you have to do is spend a little time online and you see the level of fan girl insanity that takes over with some people and their adoration of their favorite celebrities. The book was already working quite well for me but this aspect, the reaction from both of them, was just so organic that it sealed the deal. The payoff that I was after in terms of a happily ever after, or even just a happy for now was given in spades here. I got to witness growth from both characters, both together and apart and in the end, it made me believe in them making it work in a longer term arrangement, though it wasn’t always an easy road to get there. The only thing that kept this book from being a 5* plus read for me was the pacing. It was a slow go for quite a bit of the book. Evenly paced throughout to be sure, but quite a bit slower and more drawn out in areas than I was expecting it to be when I picked it up. Though that opinion is not based on having read the authors work before, but only what I know about the other rockstar romances I’ve read.Overall though, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to fans of the author, rockstar romances, or even fans of stories that progress over time instead of just happening overnight. I definitely look forward to reading more from this author in the future. My thanks to the author and all others involved in letting me read this before official release. It was a pleasure.

Received ARC in exchange for honest review.Cadence is the first book in the Ruby Riot series. This series follows the lives of the band members of Ruby Riot while they rise to fame. Cadence intertwines with the Blue Phoenix series also written by Lisa Swallow. Cadence is a story of passion, heartbreak, redemption, and compromise. Lisa Swallow did an amazing job writing each of the characters. They each have their own personalities that seem to come to life outside the book and in your mind.Cadence is about Jax, the lead guitarist of Ruby Riot, and Tegan, the little sister of Bryn who is the drummer for Blue Phoenix. Tegan is young and adventurous. She wants to travel the world and experience new things, much to the dismay of her older brother, Bryn. When she shows up on tour with Blue Phoenix, Bryn isn’t the only one who is effected. Jax is enjoying his rise to fame. Women, Alcohol, and performing is all he lives for. When he meets Tegan, he sees a challenge, but will he be able to rise to it?Jax and Tegan are written beautifully. Tegan is my favorite character. She is strong willed and feisty and stands her ground. While she overacts at some points, most of the time she is level headed and tries to compromise. I love that she knows what she wants and she is not willing to let anyone boss her around. She knows she is an adult and is fighting for others to feel the same. Jax is a good character as well. She is cocky and arrogant, but this leaves room for plenty of character development. I think that has a lot going on in his head that is revealed over the story. I love that these two interact. I think their interactions are entertaining, especially in the beginning of the book.Lisa Swallow is a gifted writer. She has a remarkable way of making the reader feel like they are actually in the characters head and experiencing the same situations as the character. It takes a noteworthy author to be able to make a reader feel heartbreak and love through the characters eyes. This is the reason I continue to come back and read Lisa’s books. I know I will not be disappointed in the writing style. She knows where she wants to go with the story, and she leads readers down the same path.If you are looking for a book with a lot of heat, then this is your book. Lisa did not skimp on the intimate scenes. With that being said, these scenes happened in a realistic way and felt organic to the story. Not one of these scenes felt like they were placed there just because the book did not contain enough heat. I feel like this also adds to the characters as the whole book is not just about sex. Readers are able to see a physical attraction, but we are lead down the road to exploring the results of when physical and emotional attraction combine.Overall, I loved this book. I did not find a single aspect of the book I did not like. We were able to see plenty of the characters, while also being introduced to other minor characters. The intertwining of the Ruby Riot and Blue Phoenix series is a good way for readers of the Blue Phoenix series to get updates on their favorite characters. I also feel like it was a good way to introduce the new band, which will all have their own books. I would recommend to anyone who loves a good rock star romance. .=]Ratings:Plot = 5/5Characters = 5/5Heat = 5/5Writing Style = 5/5Overall Rating = 5/5Favorite Quote:“How did you find your way up here?”“The elevator. Check out more of my reviews on my blog is book #1 in the Ruby Riot Series, I was gifted an ARC of this book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.I LOVE Lisa Swallows books, since I grabbed a freebie of Summer Star from Amazon I have devoured the Blue Phoenix books. So when I was offered an ARC of the first book in this spinoff series I jumped at the chance.Jax came across like a split personality in Jem and Ruby’s book, on one hand he was the caring friend and incredibly sweet but then he flipped and became an absolute douchebag and I wanted to slap him.In Cadence he manages to meld both of the sides of his personality together and be an adorable asshole lol. Even when he is being a drunken prick I still found him incredibly endearing and I sort of just wanted to laugh and give him a hug.Tegan is a force to be reckoned with and I loved that she never took any of Jax’s shit. As a couple Jax and Tegan had great banter and I enjoyed the way they sort of bounced off one another. My favourite moments in this book were the ones where Tegan literally knocked Jax on his ass and tore down the rockstar persona, how the mighty hath fallen lol. It was both intense and hilarious and I think from the moment they connected in that hotel corridor I was engrossed.Bloody hell this couple has some serious chemistry, whenever they were in a room together, I sort of felt that weird the whole room blurs and all you can focus on is them feeling. I LOVED that I got dragged into their relationship and invested in them getting a happily ever after.I have two critisms of this book the first is that I’m used to the Blur Phoenix series and they guys in that are much older than Jax and Tegan and it showed. Now I get that with a younger couple comes a different type of love story but at times I was rolling my eyes at some of their “Problems” lol. My other issue came with the ending, I love my happy ever afters all wrapped up in a big pink bow and I wasn’t 100% that this couple was forever. I’m really hoping that I get to see them loved up and happy in the rest of the series.I’m assuming that Riley and Nate’s book will be next and bloody hell that look like it’s gonna be a good one!!!This book had a different but also comfortably familiar vibe to it and as an extension to the Blur Phoenix series it totally worked.I really enjoyed this youthful escape and Cadence gets 4 stars from me.

Uplifting Story...Tegan and Jax rode on the high I have from reading Dylan and Sky love story. Maybe that's why I feel like this book is just not one I can 'gasp' about. It is a good love story though. The angst is about some of the fans cyber bullying Tegan. She was roughened up because she went to an ATM alone at night. How stupid is that knowing what she did. Sheesh..Overall it is a feel good and light story.

4 I'm a rockstar, Stars Tegan Hughes joins Blue Phoenix and Ruby Riot on tour to be with her brother Bryn from Blue Phoenyx. Arriving on her first day the chemistry most certainly begins, bumping into Jax from Ruby Riot after checking in gave Tegan a reaction she hadn't bargained for. Jax is what you would expect of a rock star, cocky flirtatious, surrounded by girls and alcohol. Ruby Riot are only just making it big and you could say fame was definitely going to Jax's head. Jax has his sights set on Tegan and being the little sister of Bryn from Blue Phoenix the challenge bar has definitely been set high but even threats from Bryn doesn't have Jax backing off. This book starts of flirty, humorous, full of innuendos and as the relationship of Jax and Tegan becomes more the chemistry and hotness hits a high. A great Rockstar read, filled with a balance of hot moments, laughter, sweetness, drama, angst and guys being guys as you are also introduced to the others in the band. Tegans main issue throughout this plot is can she trust a rockstar, despite how Jax professes he feels for her can she let go of all her doubts especially of a Rockstar with a high reputation for being a manwhore and well a stereotype Rockstar. I enjoyed Cadence it was easy going kept my interest peaked throughout had great characters and I would definitely read more in this series, I am hoping to get glimpses of how Tegan and Jax are doing in the other books as I didn't quite feel satisfied with the hea in Cadence, yes it ended well but it didn't give me that forever feeling I was hoping to get so looking forward to more from the other band members and to seeing more of Jax and Tegan. My first book by Lisa Swallow and I really enjoyed it. It was everything I hoped a rock-star romance would be like and more. Engaging writing, lovable characters and an interesting plot made the book a great one.I have to mention that I haven’t read the author’s previous series Blue Phoenix that this new series is a spin-off of, but I didn’t feel lost at any point; more than anything I made me want to go and pick up book 1 in that series.Told in dual POV, Cadence follows Tegan, Bryn’s younger sister and her ‘forbidden’ (***by her brother) romance with Ruby Riot’s guitarist, Jax. An enthusiastic travel blogger Tegan finally gets her brother to reluctantly allow her to to join Blue Phoenix on their headlining tour. The very first moment she sets her eyes on Jax sparks fly and you can tell that you’re in for a treat. They’re romance isn’t easy and they have to fight more than one battle to make it to their happily ever after. Jax isn’t the regular rock-star; although a man-whore on the outside, he has a heart of gold, but it’s only in the rare moments with Tegan or Ruby that you get to see that. He got caught up in this over night sensation rock-star fame, that he is doing everything he can to stay true to what that entails. But for Tegan, he’ll do anything. As I said before, I really enjoyed this book. My only problem with it was that I felt it was a bit slow at times, but overall it’s a great read. The characters were pretty interesting and unique and the author’s writing style reminded me of Kylie Scott, without copying it. I’m definitely going to start her Blue Phoenix series and see where it all began for these guys. ***ARC received in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed by Andra***

There isn't a book that Lisa Swallow could write that I wouldn't absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE, and this book is no exception! Cadence is FANTASTIC! Tegan Hughes is taking a year off, and touring Europe with her big brother Byrn's band Blue Phoenix. The drummer isn't happy at all when Tegan just shows up and cashes in on his promise, but she's not taking no for an answer. Jax Lewis is the popular guitarist for Ruby Riot, Blue Phoenix's opening act. He feels an instant connection when he comes across Tegan, but she isn't rock star girlfriend material. As their attraction grows, all of her reasons as to why she won't be more than friends, are being destroyed. Can Jax get Tegan to give him a chance?I simply LOVED this story. The character development is fantastic, and of course, the female lead is amazing and the male is HOT. A well written, awesome storyline flows perfectly. Jax and Tegan's chemistry is flammable, and led to explosive sexy scenes. Lisa Swallow's talented writing style had my heart racing cover to cover, as I couldn't put the book down. It's written in dual POV which always makes it better to me, and she does a brilliant job writing the male mindset. As usual, well placed humor had me cracking up quite a bit throughout. The best part is getting to see what the boys of Blue Phoenix are up to now. I can't HIGHLY RECOMMEND Cadence enough, so do yourself a solid and read this book!

I followed this story through the weekly newsletter releases, but I have to say I thought it was much better reading it as a whole. I was able to get into the story in a more emotional way. Teagan is Bryn's baby sister, and she has come to tour with the band much to Bryn's displeasure. From the moment she lays eyes on Jax she is drawn to him despite his bad boy ways. Jax is lead guitarist for Ruby Riot, he is full of himself when he is in rock star mode and has a no holds bar approach to living his life in that persona. But one girl, one smart, beautiful, and take no prisoners girl is about to bring him to his knees. Of course it won't be that easy for him to grow up, he has a belief of what being a rock star is and it is hard for him to live a normal life. Being together is not easy for them, from those in their lives against it to the rabid violent fans making Teagan's life hell. Add in Jax's out of control partying and Teagan's fears that she can't trust him, and it sounds like a recipe for disaster. But sometimes, even young love is the strongest. Sometimes you find your soul mate where you least expect it. And sometimes, you fight for what you know you can not live without.

Definitely not your average rock star romance, Cadence is about the contrast and connection between two strong characters who don't have a dark past and are determined to make sure their future is bright. Having grown up alongside her rock star brother and the rest of his band, Tegan isn't a starry-eyed groupie looking to hook up with anyone. I loved her strength of character - even when her stubbornness drove her to deny what happened at that particular party - as it definitely makes her a heroine to remember. Now a right d*ckhead at times. Born to be a rock star, or so it seems, he's got his heart set on the future and all the perks that come with it. However, he's never really experienced disappointment or loss and his view of women is...dated, and not in a good way. In order to get the girl, he has to grow up a bit and make some important decisions, or risk losing everything. This is a fun story - a tug-of-war for an equal relationship between two characters who have all the chemistry...but the timing's all wrong. Though this book does have a traditional romance ending, I'd be interested to see how Tegan and Jax fare in the future. Five stars. No question.

I love a good rockstar romance and CADENCE really fit the bill. This was my introduction to Lisa Swallow and her incredible crew.Baby, I am SOLD. Sign me up as a full blown Ruby Riot and Blue Phoenix groupie. Tegan and Jax drove me mad crazy and thrilled me to the core. Theirs was a love story to rival my favorites. Intense, unconventional, and wildly passionate and romantic. Both were sexy as hell. But Jax... wow. He was a trip and I fell for him as hard as Tegan. What it is about the broken bad boys?Though I'm still basking in the afterglow, I'm ready for the next Ruby Riot installment and I am definitely checking out the Blue Phoenix series. I'm so intrigued by Jem and Ruby and can't wait to learn more of their story. And Tegan's brother, Bryn... I just know he'll win me over. For now, I'm content in the love bubble with Tegan and Jax.To wrap it up simply, CADENCE was a rollercoaster ride from start to finish. I'd jump on and ride all over again. And again. Yep, it was that good.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.Cadence is the first book in the Ruby Riot series. It follows the lives of the band Ruby Riot and is a spin off of The Blue Phoenix series. This is my first book by Lisa Swallow.Cadence is passionate, lusty, and heartbreaking all at the same time, with well characters you can't help but fall in love with.Tegan Hughes is a strong willed woman just happy to travel Europe and is excited to finally be on tour with her brother Bryn, drummer for the famous Blue Phoenix. Her life is just fine without a man, and will not let one deter her from her goals. Jaxon Lewis is a super sexy, cocky as hell, playboy on the very edge of success. He is absolutely not interested in a relationship. When these two finally meet it is explosive and and full of lust. Sneaking around to keep things from Tegan's brother proves to be stressful and almost impossible. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to see what the next in the series holds.

Unfortunately, I've never read any of the Blue Phoenix books by Lisa Swallow. However, reading this new series from her, which is a sort of spin off, made me definitely want to read all of them. I was pleasantly surprised to find an affordable deal on all of the books through Kindle Unlimited. Anyway, I'm excited about the following Ruby Riot books. If they are as incredible as this one, this is completely a series worth checking out.As already stated, this is a steamy and fascinating novel that captured my attention from start to finish. I loved getting to read Jax and Tegan's story, but I'm also looking forward to reading more about the Ruby Riot members. Specifically, the twins in the group who are pretty much the only guys left in the group that have yet to shack up! If you're looking for an addicting new adult romance novel that centers around sexy band members, look no further than this new series and the Blue Phoenix series as well.Read full review at Go Read A Book
