**Actual Review 2.5 stars**CharactersThis is a tricky one. For one I liked Laney…most of the time. She grew in the book and I liked her much more by the end of the book than I did at the middle. I don’t feel like I every really knew Bryce other than the details of his body. This novel really needed a second point of view because the entire time I second guessed Bryce’s interest in her. Which means I never invested in their relationship. It was only made worse by Laney’s crazy ex, Greg—who was over the top and the cause of most of the drama. Rex felt like a mirror in which Laney could reflect on if she should go to Bryce or follow societies standards of being with an older man versus a younger one. I liked how straight forward he was.PlotThis book is supposed to be a romance but it feels more like an imaged fancy. As though we’ve slipped into a dream that turns into a sexual fantasy. Which is about when it stopped feeling less like a romance and more like an erotica. It was already very lust focused but I was surprised at the absolute lack of detail. I wouldn’t say the sensual scenes were very hot at all which was surprising considering how focused Laney is on Bryce’s body. In the end it felt like a mellow erotica. As an aside there was the side story of Laney’s business. She has this workout business she is trying to sell that she co-owns with her ex. The book built up to this big reveal but the twist isn’t much of a twist and it was a huge cliche.OverallThe writing was very straight forward, almost technically written, but would go down rabbit holes. Almost like everything was an understatement. In a romance it really comes down to characters and I struggled with them in this book. Bryce’s persistence and Laney’s mostly sexual attraction to him really made their romance feel thin. It really didn’t take root until the end and by then it was a little late for me. That being said the ending was very sweet and it was nice to see a couple who defied societies standards. Despite the turbulence of the book I was glad to see Bryce and Laney give it a go. It was a dream ending for both of them.Rating2.5 Stars (rounded to 3 stars)I was very split on this book – I liked parts of it but struggled to get through it during lulls. It also toed the line between sweet and erotica. This is a voluntary review. More reviews at creatingworldswithwords.wordpress.com.

This is such a charming story. Laney is an older woman, who after a reunion with a man she used to babysit, finds herself being pursued by the younger man, Bryce. First, I want to say, she isn’t that old, she’s younger than me. 😉 She is 41 and he is 30, which isn’t really that big of a deal, though for Laney it is a real obstacle. I can understand why for her it might be. She has a daughter who is also attracted to Bryce, and an ex-husband who is a bit of a possessive nut, and makes it a big deal, plus another suitor, who she thinks is a more appropriate age. However, there is that pull, you know the one, that makes your heart want to dare to take a chance. In addition to the age thing, there were some really interesting events that added to the drama and tension. The end held a few surprises too. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this.If you are looking for a sweet tale, with a heroine you can respect, and beautiful charm, I recommend this one.

The Boy Next Door by Lolli Powell is a sweet romantic story.Bryce Adams is the hottie next door. Laney Mitchell is his former babysitter from over twenty years ago. When Laney notices a car in the driveway next door, she goes to investigate, expecting to see Linda, the owner, who was planning to sell her parents’ house. Instead, she finds Linda's half-naked son, Bryce. He invites her in for a cup of tea and confesses that all those years ago he had a crush on her.Laney is divorced, and the attraction is mutual, but she tries to keep her distance. She is eleven years his senior. Suddenly, she finds herself receiving attention, not from one but two men. Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for a romantic ride because when determined Bryce decides to pursue Laura, the battle is anything but fair. You will find yourself wanting to reach in and shake her to go for it. There’s more than enough intrigue in this book to keep the pages turning fast and furious.

I don’t usually read romance novels, but this one was recommended by a friend. The characters are well drawn and the story is fun and interesting. The ending was a bit of a surprise. It was not what I was expecting. The plot moves along nicely. The only problem I had with it was the main female character’s obsession with age. The age difference between her and one of the male characters doesn’t seem to be enough to cause so much angst. That said, there were places in the book where I sort of wished I was Laney. After all, having two gorgeous men after you would certainly inflate any woman’s ego. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes romance novels.

I really enjoyed this story! I thought Bryce was a cutie and exactly what I’d expect from a boy next door. I liked Greta and even Greg because in the end he wasn’t a total douche and he does still care for her… in his way.The mother and daughter going for the same guy kinda freaked me out at first, but I know this does happen. Shudder. I thought the pacing was good and the dialogue was natural and easy.If there is a sequel, I'd love to read it!

4.5 stars! Next door neighbors, babysitter and Brycie, 11 years apart in age: I liked Laney and Bryce right away. She was a regular person to me with an ex-husband, a 20 year old daughter, and a fun friend named Greta. Bryce moves back in next door to help sell his parents' house and confesses that he has been waiting for his true love, Laney. She is 41, and he is 30. He is mature and not a boy toy. I love that she also meets an attractive older man who is into her. And then her ex wants her back. Sometimes when I read books where there is an older heroine, it's as if she has only one option or only unattractive other options. Here she had two sexy options and a jealous ex. At the party with the mounting tensions, multiple dance partners, and her daughter's flirtation with Bryce... drama, drama, drama. There was the fallout from a very drunk Dee and accusations from Greg. Dates with Rex, fun with Greta, and Bryce doing his thing. I liked that Laney took care of herself and was part of the success of Bodies, a gym. This gave her and the story depth for me. Her marriage had ended, but her life was beginning to be hers to shape, to enjoy, and to make new choices. I also liked that Laney was fairly independent and would be financially secure if the sale of the gyms went through. I have read quite a few books where the mature heroine either doesn't have much after a divorce; she doesn't have many skills; she uses inherited money to be independent, etc. Laney was smart and a major part of the business. She was also ready to redefine herself. There were romantic and sexy scenes that I enjoyed in this story. The romantic scenes, the buildup made the sexy scenes that much more sexy. I like that there were kissing scenes, touching, and the seduction prior to the sex. It worked with who Laney was. Not just having jump right into sex had me anticipating when they would. It was worth the wait. Note: I originally read this from Kindle Unlimited, but I enjoyed it so much and it was on sale for 99 cents, so I 1-clicked it. It is my first from this author. I am looking forward to more.

This is the first book by this author that I have read and straight away I was chuckling and laughing at the humor and flirting I was reading in this great book. I just love the style of writing the author uses and the flow of the story is great, it keeps you want to keep reading. It’s a story about a slightly older woman and a younger man that have an 11-year gap between their ages but this does not stop one from pursuing the other. I found the end left me with wanting a bit more as I was enjoying the journey I was being taken on. I am very happy I read this great hot romance story with very interesting characters. A fun short book to read that will give you total enjoyment with every page. Who would not be interested in a sexy younger man that's flirting with you?Full review at www.readingfortheloveofbooks.com

Right from the start The Boy Next Door is steamy. Leading man Bryce is shirtless and flirty, distracingly sexy and not afraid to pursue Laney from go. Laney is instantly affected (who wouldn't be? The man is yummy!) But she keeps up a mature wall between them, the age difference of eleven years causing her to question his sincerity and the appropriateness of the mutual attraction. Bryce is nothing if not persistant. He begins a pursuet of Laney that had me yelling at my kindle; just do it Laney! For all the cougars in the land, grab him! I connected instantly with our leading lady. I am the same age, I too suffered through an unfaithful marriage and in the end found true love with my own sexy leading man, though he is not younger than me, if he were I would have still fallen for him. It was wonderful to take the journey with mature and sexy Laney as she came into her own late in life. But not too late!A successful business owner, a divorcee of three years from a man with questionable values, Greg, Laney begins to realise that with their daughter grown and off to college, their business about to sell giving her financial freedom, that although she has skipped past forty, her life and libido are far from fizzled. Bryce has had a crush on Laney since he was four when Laney used to babysit him. Now a grown man, he has returned to sell his grandparents house after the passing of his grandfather. Discovering his first crush still lives next door he is determined not to let their age difference or Laney's hesitation stand in the way of what he is sure could be a first love rediscovered.I loved the humor, the very real characters and as always, the skillful writing of Ms. Powell. This is the third book I have read by this author and she has already become a favorite. I look forward to her next book and what fun and exciting characters she brings to life next!

Laney Mitchell has been by herself for awhile and always used her daughter as the excuse not to date. Now that her daughter is older and she and her ex husband Greg are selling their fitness clubs she won't have to see him anymore. Not only does Greg think they can get back together but she has two more love interests. The younger next door hottie, Bryce who she used to babysit and the Millers' friend Rex Taylor. Both men are good looking and very interested in her. She has some tough decisions ahead of herself and wants to protect her heart from getting broken.Bryce is so elusive and doesn't say much about himself. Rex on the other hand is very forthcoming with information about himself. Will she take the safe older guy or the hot, younger man?Who will Laney pick and what will her ex do when she decides??I liked this book. It shows the old saying," You don't know what you have until it is gone." Greg is finding this out with Laney. He figures out a little to late for that. Now that not only one but two men are interested in her he feels himself losing control. The story has some great characters and I could feel the emotions that they were feeling. I like more action in the stories I read but I was pleasantly surprised with this story. I couldn't put it down. The only thing that I thought hindered the story was the pacing. It had some moments when I was like less talk and more action. I would recommend this book.

I received a free copy for my honest review. This is a very well written book. It was mellow in a way that I loved. It is a simple love story that was complicated by age (Which isn't a complication any more, but was nicely done, remaining true to who the character Laney was) and others (Ex-husband, daughter, and other suitors) that just get in the way. I loved Laney and of course BRYCE!!Ms. Powell definitely captured a loving man in Bryce. He was never the alpha male that he so totally could have been and that is about all I am going to say about that.It was a lovely story. If you want to take a break from crazy drama and read a real loving story, this is it. I took my time because I was savoring it and didn't want it to end, but the ending was so satisfying I am happy with the read. I am looking forward to her next book. She really has something and it's called talent.

This was a sexy story that took on the feeling of fantasy. Laney is a divorced woman with a college aged child. She's already had a successful business and failed relationship. She isn't young. Then a hottie moves in next door who is quite a bit younger than her. He's so young that Laney's daughter has a thing for him. But, he's also a boy that has never forgotten his first love from when he was four years old. His babysitter. And you can guess how the story goes. Both Laney and Bryce are quite endearing. Together they sizzle. That was all done very well. I didn't always feel like there was more there besides the physical attraction, but I still was rooting for them and enjoying it immensely.

I received this book as an early reviewer on LibraryThings in exchange for an honest review. It was a nice funny read with a decent plot and was funny. An enjoyable fast read. If you're looking for something to make you chuckle and have to pull out the fan for a few of the tasteful steamy parts this should be on your list.

Aww this was a cute book. At first, I didn't think I'd like it... but Bryce was so persistent I found myself rooting for him! Greg even turned out to be an OK guy at the end. This is a fun, light romance. I'd say this is a good beach read, it made me happy!

Laney's been divorced for three years and on the verge of selling her business which will make her a wealthy woman. Her ex is harassing her and her daughter's in college. The sexy new neighbor is one from her past. Her distant past... she was his babysitter when he was 4.This was weird and one of the few instances where I wish we had dual POVs so we can know what he's thinking. Laney's weirded out by the age difference but Bryce certainly is interested in her and makes certain she knows it.But then she meets Rex, an older and sexy man. And her daughter comes home to visit, takes one look at Bryce and crushes on him... and Laney gets more than she bargained for. This was all interesting to read, but it was hard to get a handle on Rex. She says the conversation was good... but we don't get to read it. We only know what he looks like and what he does for a living which is still kind of vague. Then again so is her relationship with Bryce. It made for a bad triangle. And the kinda psycho ex... what was with that and the ending? I felt like there were a lot of unfinished business for me with this book. And the ending left me less than satisfied. And much like the writing in this book, no details will be given. An extra star was added here because this is apparently set in the Lexington KY area and the author describes this weird castle that I just saw a few weeks ago when I visited. Funny coincidence!
