Prodigal Girl: Based on a True Story Reviews
Great readI’m happy to have taken the time to read this book. It kept my attention and I really enjoyed it.
Prodigal Girl is not a ‘feel good’ type of book but it is a compelling read. One life-altering decision leads to a path of betrayal, heartbreak and revenge. Finola Williams’ story is a familiar one. We have all been hurt by people we love, it’s what we do as a result of that hurt that can set a course for our lives – positive or negative. Prodigal Girl takes the reader on Finola’s trek through the murky recesses of hate, self-destruction and finally, forgiveness. While I did not initially care for Finola’s character, as I continued to read I came to appreciate her strength. Perhaps my early dislike was because I saw parts of myself in Finola. I could relate to her loneliness, mistrust and resulting isolation – most of which is brought on by her own faulty judgement and poor decisions, as a result of being consumed by hurt and anger. Though much of Finola’s story is pain-filled and dark, there are some bright spots and likeable characters along the way. Overall, Prodigal Girl is a well-thought-out, creative story with a relatable and contemporary message. The author’s style is more ‘telling’ than ‘showing’ and the dialogue can be a little clumsy at times, but if one can overlook those things and stay tuned-in to the thoughtful conclusion, the journey will have been well worth the time.
My review on Prodigal Girl by Ramos Talaya.***First let me say that this book was based on a true story. I enjoyed the ride I took reading this book. It tore my heart into pieces and yet replaced those pieces stronger than ever. This book teaches us about learning to deal with heart ache and pain when the one person you love destroys your faith. It also gives hope in the lives of those whom have none. What a great book to read if your strength and love need mending. The best part of learning the lessons of loss is that it gives us hope and shows you that there is love after all the pain is gone. This is straight forward story. It teaches us lessons on love and loss and getting to a point in your life when You can again love and become stronger I'm doing so. Great job Ramos Talaya! ***
