Heart and Soul Reviews
Loved it! This story filled book had me from the beginning, only wish I hadn't had to stop at intervals. I'll be looking for more of this type of clean, inspirational romance books.
This is a great collection of books! I have read three of them so far: Love's Every Whisper by Naomi Rawlings, A Light in the Window by Julie Lessman, & The Reckoning by MaryLu Tyndall.Love's Every Whisper by Naomi Rawlings:Love’s Every Whisper pulled me in from the very first page. The intense storms that rage on Lake Superior set the stage for dangerous rescues and life-threatening situations. And while the daring risks these volunteer life-savers took kept me on the edge of my seat, the equally tumultuous emotional journeys of the two main characters kept me turning pages to find out what would happen next.Victoria, the heroine of the novel, was such a complex character. I felt so sorry for the way she had been treated by her family all of her life due to her stutter. It was frustrating to see Victoria fold in upon herself in difficult situations, instead of standing up and fighting for what was right. It was painful to witness the way she viewed herself. She went through an amazing transformationin this story.Elijah was such a wonderful leading man. His kindness to Victoria from the time they were both young grew into a love that he felt could never be acted upon based on their positions in society. It was hard to see him suffer through some of Victoria’s decisions. He was such a complex character carrying a lot of guilt. The author did a great job of communicating the inner turmoil he was experiencing.I truly felt immersed in this time period and learned so much about the history of the life-saving service. Add in the captivating romance brewing between Elijah and Victoria and this was a book that I didn’t want to set down!A Light in the Window by Julie Lessman:What a joy to read about the beginnings of the O'Connor clan! This story stands alone or as an introduction to the Daughters of Boston series. I loved seeing the change in Patrick from a rogue to a man truly in love with a wonderful girl and pursuing a relationship with God. Patrick's rogue past is referred to many times in A Passion Most Pure, but it was sure fun to see the change in him happen right before my eyes in the pages of this book!I also enjoyed Marcy. She had some definite judgments about the two rogues who were pursuing her in this book. However, she really seemed to have her blinders on in regards to what she chose to believe about one of them! One scene in particular just made me want to shout at her, "Open your eyes! Why are you letting yourself be deceived?"And oh...swoon...I loved the epilogue ending. The author just nailed it. It is exactly the kind of ending I crave in books! The kind that surprises me and just takes my breath away! Loved it!The Reckoning by MaryLu Tyndall:The Reckoning was such an adventurous tale! I loved that it was a time travel romance and had fun telling my family that I was reading a “Christian, time travel, pirate, romance” story. And it really was all of those things. It was wonderfully refreshing and fun and was a beautiful story of redemption.I liked so many different characters. I really felt for Morgan and all that she was going through. Although I found myself wanting her to realize that she’d traveled through time, it made sense that it would be hard to comprehend that reality. But, once she did realize that, the book really took off for me and was hard to set down. I thought her transformation from the beginning of the book to the end was fabulous.Rowan was a wonderful hero. Very much a rogue, with a lot of baggage and the habits of a pirate, he had a lot of growing to do through the story. And it was a wonderful experience to see that happen! As The Reckoning is a story that involves pirates, there were references to drinking and some pirates who were looking to use the lady for their own pleasure. These references made sense in the story and I felt that they added realism to the novel. There were a plethora of wonderful side characters who were part of the crew of the Reckoning and they added so much to the story. And I enjoyed meeting characters from some of the author’s previous books. That was especially fun. Even though I had not read the other books from the series, I had no trouble at all following along. I really enjoyed this book and plan to read more in this series.
I've read Love's Every Whisper, by Naomi Rawlings. What an exciting story and great second book in her series, Eagles Harbor. The main characters are Victoria, Gilbert and Elijah. I love the way that Victoria grows in the story from a stuttering insecure young lady who does whatever her family pushes her into doing to finding out that she is fearfully and wonderfully made and truly believing it. Gilbert is a business man and engaged to Victoria. They became engaged more for business reasons between the families than any other reason, like love. Elijah is a fisherman and a self designated life saver rescuer for those who capsized in the lake near the lighthouse. He also has been in love with Victoria since she was a girl, but never felt worthy of her because she came from a rich family and he a fisherman's family. Love's Every Whisper is a lovely story written by Naomi Rawlings that shows the strength of God growing in people as they see they are fearfully and wonderfully made and that we can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth us. I am excited to see how this author can develop Gilbert into a good character in the next story! I was gifted this story in exchange for my honest review.
