From Monet To Van Gogh: A History Of Impressionism (Great Courses, #7185) Reviews
It was only by purchasing this course that I was able to understand the milieu in which impressionism was born. In 1848 Napoleon III (nephew and heir to Napoleon I) was elected president. As most of you know, Napoleon III is best remembered as rebuilding all of Paris, and so, no one could escape the continual pounding of hammers day and night around the city. Migraine-city! Thank goodness, the vanguard of the Impressionists didn't let that noise distract them from their great and original work.
I thought I knew most of the early French impressionists. I love impressionism, art, history. This has it all. I love these lectures. I only wish that I could have seen the pictures while I was listening to this. It is interesting to realize that there was a lot of construction work going on while these paintings were being made.
Comprehensive survey of the Impressionists accompanying a set of DVD's ---a good sources of further readings.
Loved this from top to toe, side to side, light to hue.
